There were many aspects about this book that I found enjoyable. The first was how normal the book seemed. Bethany Hall is just another girl at the high school, but when she catches the eye of the new guy Lukas Castle, she can’t believe her luck. There’s something wrong with him though, something she can’t quite put her finger on.
The book was broken into four parts to show the harrowing tale of Lukas Castle. We see the way that he’s been in and out of the lives of the women in Bethany’s history, searching for the perfect witch. Convinced that she is the one gifted with all the powers, he has her in his sights.
The idea of the long lost love was definitely interesting because it made me think of The Crucible as well as Romeo and Juliet. Surely a love like theirs is only meant to end in disaster.
All in all, an interesting little urban paranormal YA read.
Young love and a long family feud – what can go wrong?
The new handsome bad boy Lukas and the captivating red head Beth and her protective twin brother Ryan find themselves in a teenage saga of the paranormal kind.
A family feud going back centuries and only a fated pair can finally end it.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish, bring on the next story is all I can say.
Is this a YA romance, a fantasy, a historical?? Or all rolled into one…
What a combination of genres. Really works well.
I found it odd that the twins didn’t know what their mom did for work, but was willing to squash the thoughts and go along for the ride as they searched for the truth. And what a ride it was, ups and downs with plenty of conflict–one of the main goals for a fiction writer, to keep a story moving without bogging down. Good scene setting and character development.
This was a pure pleasure to read, very well written with great flow.
The characters are engaging and interesting, as is the plot!
Recommend – well worth a read, and I can’t wait for the next one, hope it won’t be too long in coming!
What a fun book! I adore the setting, as the romantic in me will instantly fall in love with any quaint medieval European town, given half the chance. Add in a twist on a Shakespearean classic, and I found myself looking for the details which corresponded to the original(ish) tale of Romeo and Juliet. Still, this is not a simple derivative piece. It brings in its own twists, a bit of magic, and a lot of intensity. Delving into family mysteries increases the tension and intrigue.
A YA fantasy with a little “Twilight” thrown in, a dash of “Harry Potter,” a cup of “Romeo & Juliet,” and a pinch of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” It starts a little slow but the intensity level ratchets up quickly as the battle between good and evil takes center stage in the form of good witches vs.bad witches. And, of course, there are the romantic entanglements between the heroine, Bethany Hall, and the extremely handsome and mysterious, dark-haired Lukas Castle, and – during a flashback to the 1700s – a romance between their ancestors. Which is where the concept of “the fated” originates.
While Lukas is the gorgeous teen hunk, I really liked Ryan, Bethany’s twin brother.
The ending is not a cliffhanger, but it’s obvious the story will continue. It has the potential to be a fun series for teens or readers who enjoy YA fantasy and serious stories featuring witches.
Wonderful tale of love, family feuds and witchy goings on. What’s not to like about true love and dysfunctional families? Witches can mess us too.
An ancient rival seeks revenge. A family mystery is revealed. Will the decisions of the past keep the future from unfolding? In The Fated, Beth and Ryan are coming of age, not only in years, but also to the secrets the family has withheld their entire lives. This story takes several unexpected turns and brings the past to life very cleverly. The ending of the book leaves you wondering what will come next and if happiness will eventually win the centuries-old feud.
