The American Dream thrives in 1912 New York City Annie Wood, the housemaid-turned-pattern designer in The Pattern Artist, jumps at the chance to design her own clothing line when a wealthy New York couple offers to finance her endeavor. Joining the project is Annie’s new husband, Sean Culver, her best friend at Butterick, Maude Nascato, and a mother figure, Edna Holmquist. Annie and her … Holmquist.
Annie and her colleagues give up their careers, risking everything to follow a shared passion: clothes that are both fashionable and functional for modern, busy women in 1912.
Personal and financial setbacks test old relationships and new romances while threatening to keep the business from ever selling a single dress. No one said it would be easy. But the promise of the American Dream holds a deep hope for those who work hard, trust God, and never give up.

I loved the fact that it was a novel that weaved historical fact throughout.
I like to sew so this book warmed my crafting soul.
Very interesting look at the fashions of an earlier era and how women needed clothing that allowed more freedom of movement. Good picture of the struggles getting started with a new business. Nice, clean romance.
Women’s adventure, great story
Ties interesting stories of unique women with historical facts about the beginnings of the 1900’s.
Great read
Easy to read and hard to put down. Loved the history. Women’s rights and property were limited at this time. Makes me appreciate what I have now.
If you enjoy historical fiction you will love this book AND if you enjoy Christian based novels, you will love this book. These two genres are perfectly balanced in The Fashion Designer. In this novel, author Nancy Moser takes us back in time to the early 1900’s and New York City. The historical aspects of the story are well researched and seamlessly interwoven adding a layer of realism and richness to the setting and the characters. The faith portion of the characters is also very culturally relevant, realistic and timeless. There is a wholesomeness and element of hope that kept me cheering for these young women page by page. I am looking forward to reading more of their story and more novels by Nancy Moser.
It was a nice change from the heavier reading I have been doing. I particularly enjoyed the historical references of fashion design in women’s clothing. Some parts of the part were rather unbelievable but then God does work in mysterious ways his wonders to perform. After all it is a faith based book.
Surprisingly good. I didn’t expect much but really enjoyed this one.
great part of history
I really enjoyed this book. The story flowed easily and kept me interested. I liked the various characters. I would read more books by this author.
A good story!
A good book with no bad language.
I enjoyed reading this book, it did turn into a page turning book. Enjoyed the way the characters all sorta wove together. Great read
Loved this book
Loved every page! I felt close to the characters and found myself rooting for them to be successful in business and in life. There were many Biblical solutions given in every difficult situation. There was a good amount of historical reference in regard to the world of fashion. I enjoyed this book, cover to cover.
Dumb
Need to read The Pattern Maker first to really appreciate this book. Both are a great Christian read, and are “faith builders” in a very positive way!
I do wish that it had not ended so suddenly. I did feel that I would have loved a little more detail at the end.
