The American Dream thrives in 1912 New York City Annie Wood, the housemaid-turned-pattern designer in The Pattern Artist, jumps at the chance to design her own clothing line when a wealthy New York couple offers to finance her endeavor. Joining the project is Annie’s new husband, Sean Culver, her best friend at Butterick, Maude Nascato, and a mother figure, Edna Holmquist. Annie and her … Holmquist.
Annie and her colleagues give up their careers, risking everything to follow a shared passion: clothes that are both fashionable and functional for modern, busy women in 1912.
Personal and financial setbacks test old relationships and new romances while threatening to keep the business from ever selling a single dress. No one said it would be easy. But the promise of the American Dream holds a deep hope for those who work hard, trust God, and never give up.

well written, enjoyable read
Wonderful historic fiction about the beginning of patterns for sewing and fashionable ready made dresses for the average woman.
Great book. I wanted to be there with the characters experiencing their ups and downs. I can’t wait to go and read the first book in the series.
This book was fun and yet a story that showed with determination and trusting in what God has in store for each of us we can reach our dreams. A story of friends sticking together to make a dream come true. Recommend this book thumbs up.
I thought it was slow moving and boring.
Annie’s childhood could have destroyed her. Her parents were poor and abusive, but in God’s good plan for her life she was shown favor and mercy. Her God-given talents coupled with determination and strength give us a pleasing inspirational story.
Seeing God help single women with a vision.
I enjoyed reading about the history of women’s ready to wear clothing, how things we take for granted evolved into what we expect today. I am a sewer, who does a very little designing and making patterns for my designs, so I could identify with some of what was happening. I also appreciated old pictures of some of the real people who appeared in the book. I am not sure the book has wide appeal unless one is interested in, female entrepreneurship, women’s history, sewing, or the fashion industry.
Very detailed about life in the early 1900″s in our country.
Light hearted historical fiction.
I enjoyed the historical setting and the women creating their own business. I particularly liked it because I also like to sew.
Hard to believe women were treated so bad and whose rights were almost non-existent a mere 100 years ago. It reminds me of their strength and courage that paved the way for today’s women and the men who made it possible.
Great story about following your dreams … and a little bit of luck helps also.
Amazing story pulled you into the world of fashion as it’s changing the ability and vision of women. Truely an inspiration of entrepreneurship, feminism, and personal growth. Amidst the bussy life, all these women had faith and expanded their faith. A simple example to daily inclusion of God in your own daily activities.
Loved the characters and how each effected the others lives.
Enjoyed the characters and the plot.
Loved this book! Delightful story.
I enjoyed the book. The characters were well written.
I love a story that adds real history into the mix.
