The Texas Hill Country promises to be anything but ordinary when bestselling mystery writer, Agatha Harley, begins researching her next novel. What she doesn’t expect is for her research to lead her to her newly retired neighbor, Hank Davidson. She recognizes a cop when she sees one, and Hank doesn’t look like her idea of retired, despite the black socks, sandals, and manicured lawn.Hank needs a … lawn.
Hank needs a place to forget his past, but Agatha needs his past to secure her future.
As an FBI trained profiler, Hank Davidson sees right through most people. But Agatha isn’t most people. She’s as seasoned as any cop he knows and just as mouthy. It doesn’t take long for him to get caught up in the cold case Agatha’s using for research, but small town roots run deep, and loose lips will tell you anything you want to know–except who the killer is.

Sometimes you need to kick back a gear and just enjoy some old fashioned sleuthing, with a splash of romance!
I’m loving the trend in older leads at the moment. Not everyone wants to read about perky 20-somethings! It’s nice to be able to relate to someone my kind of age. Hank is still a handsome devil of course and Aggie, well she is a total hoot and clueless about how famous and well loved she is! She does have a tendency to want things her own way but being a little “shut off” that’s to be expected!
Great story and a total bus mans holiday for me as I work for law enforcement in the day job but it’s nice to see things from an American point of view!
At under 150 pages, The Farmer’s Slaughter was a nice way to pass a couple hours. The chemistry between the main characters lightens the mood and brings some highly enjoyable humor. The case is interesting and moves quickly. While it ends fairly abruptly, the book keeps a steady pace and kept me flipping through the pages for a good mystery that left me wanting more Agatha and Hank stories.
Great characters, action, and storyline, however the plot felt rushed. This in no way discouraged me from reading all 5 of the series so far! Enjoyed them all..wish there was more.
This honest review is in exchange for an advanced copy.
The Farmer’s Slaughter is book #1 in the new cozy mystery series, Harley and Davidson Mysteries, by Liliana Hart and Scott Silverii. This story starts out with the introduction of the two main characters, mystery writer Agatha Harley and retired big city homicide cop, Hank Davidson. I enjoyed their initial meeting where a garden hose got a little frisky and Agatha and Hank got off to a bit of a rough start. Thankfully they managed to get past their initial meeting and developed a great partnership. They both contributed to solving a cold case murder mystery.
I really enjoyed the writing style of the two authors. They entertained with humor and serious sleuthing. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book by one of my favorite authors which is a drastic departure from her other works. It is an impressive talent to be able to excel in such radically different genres.
This introduction to the Harley and Davidson cozy mysteries sets up the series well. We get enough background on the main characters to feel like we are getting to know them and to keep us intrigued and wanting more. The mystery is a cold case and allows for some red herrings but after some elements are established most devoted mystery readers will latch on to the killer and make some of the connections. That doesn’t diminish the entertainment value in the read at all though.
I enjoyed the book so much that I’m starting a binge read now and immediately moving on to book two and having already purchased all the books in the series.
I found Liliana Hart by accident about 8 or 9 years ago when I saw the cover to her first JJ Graves book and that book blew me away. I’m a bit behind on the series, but every book I have read has been loved. So, when I was looking for a quick cozy mystery book I came across this one and let me tell thank goodness i did! The setting is perfect, I love that it’s light but has mystery and I love the connection between Agatha and Hank. I would have liked to see a little more build up and suspense in the book like she writes in the JJ Graves series, but I’m hoping that will happy as the series progresses. If you are looking for a light cozy mystery that is a quick read then grab this book!
Awesome book
cold-case, law-enforcement, author, Texas
I’m glad this is number one in the series because I look forward to seeing how these two work together. It’s always good to see cold cases brought to justice even if it’s in fiction. I thought it was well done and I really enjoyed it!
Bought as Whispersync on the cheap, and the dual narrators were a gas!
I enjoyed this story! The characters are interesting. Enjoyed interaction between Agatha and Hank.
