From bestselling author, Kathleen Fuller, comes another heartwarming romantic comedy set in the beloved Amish community of Birch Creek. “Once you open the book, you won’t put it down until you’ve reached the end.”—Amy Clipston, bestselling author of A Seat by the Hearth, for The Teacher’s Bride They promised to keep each other’s secrets . . . not realizing they were about to make some of their … . . . not realizing they were about to make some of their own.
Martha Detweiler has a problem many Amish women her age would envy: she’s the only single woman in a community of young men, and they’re all competing for her favor. Overwhelmed by the unwanted attention, Martha finds herself constantly fleeing from her would-be suitors, dismayed at what her life has come to.
Birch Creek’s resident matchmaker, Cevilla Schlabach, suggests a solution: Martha and the bishop’s son, Seth Yoder, should pretend they are dating. What better way to keep the other young men away?
But Seth is the only man around not interested in Martha. He has a secret hobby that keeps him away from social gatherings: woodcarving. Having grown up in poverty, he’s determined to keep his father’s farm successful, even if it means he has no time for dating. Then Delilah Stoll, a new resident of Birch Creek, eyes Seth as the perfect man for her granddaughter. Suddenly Cevilla’s proposition doesn’t seem all that ludicrous. Can Seth and Martha convince their family and friends to leave them alone?
The second book in bestselling author Kathleen Fuller’s Amish Brides of Birch Creek series, The Farmer’s Bride celebrates the unexpected power of love and the joy of discovering God’s calling.

The Farmer’s Bride is the second delightful book in An Amish Brides of Birch Creek series. I recommend reading The Teacher’s Bride first. It gives you the backstory on Cevilla and Richard, the town and how Chris and Ruby came to be together. I thought The Farmer’s Bride was well-written (as are all of Kathleen Fuller’s books) and it proceeded at a steady pace. It has charming characters and a lovely setting (I would like to live in Birch Creek). I thought the characters were realistic and I could feel their emotions plus their struggles. Cevilla Schlabach is a hoot. She gets an idea into her head and there is no stopping her. Richard is the perfect companion for Cevilla, and his comments are humorous. It will be interesting to see if Richard can give up his modern conveniences. Cevilla meets her match when Delilah Stoll moves to town. Delilah is a determined woman who steamrolls over anyone who gets in the way of her goal. Delilah and Cevilla butting heads had me chuckling. I liked how Martha enjoyed learning new things (like tying nautical knots) and working on puzzles. I completely agreed with the comment “There’s something gratifying about completing a challenge”. I had to smile when I heard soda referred to as “pop”. I had not heard that phrase since I lived in Ohio (I got teased for using it when I first moved to Florida). It was hot in Birch Creek (like it currently is in Florida) and I could relate to Cevilla saying it is “hotter than a pat of butter melting in a frying pan”. The Christian elements are beautifully incorporated into the story with emphasis on having a strong faith, relying on God, forgiveness of others and oneself, and the importance of prayer. The Farmer’s Bride is an amusing Amish tale that I did not want to end (but then I was eager to see how it ended). I am impatiently waiting for the release of the next An Amish Brides of Birch Creek Novel to revisit Birch Creek and see what is in store for Selah Ropp.
Once you open the book, you won’t put it down until you’ve reached the end.
My second visit to Birch Creek was as enjoyable as my first. In The Farmer’s Bride, we follow the path of love through Martha and Seth’s journey filled with many ups and downs.
I was thrilled to learn that Martha had an interest in a profession that is not typical of an Amish woman. I was even more thrilled that Fuller highlighted in such a beautiful light. She let Martha have this joy and didn’t keep her confined to the norm.
The Farmer’s Bride is a perfect addition to any Amish reader’s collection. It will leave you smiling and happy after you turn the last page.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Zondervan Fiction, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
I read an egalley from the publisher.
Enjoyed from start to finish. Light reading, with no swearing or sexual description.
I thought it was a traditional Amish book with a twist which was different and showed true love. Characters were realistic and authentic!
Seth Yoder secrets away to practice his woodcarving until a neighbor discovers his secluded shop and joins him in the endeavor. His dad wants him to run the family farm and doesn’t know about his dream. Martha Detweiler faces a dilemma most girls would enjoy—being the focus of all the single men’s attention since there are no other available women locally. She tries to avoid the chase and ends up spending time with Seth, the only one who hasn’t pursued her. Will the quirky Amish matchmaker’s suggestion bear fruit or will they remain reluctant friends? The book is fun, humorous at times, and a story that also makes one think. I got a copy from the publisher through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
I’m loving this series! There are several elements to this story that develop and weave together- Martha and Seth’s fake romance turned real, the secret woodworking they share, Cevilla’s perspective and her relationship with a non-Amish man, and Seth’s growth as he begins to enjoy the work of the farm. The friendship between Seth and Martha is so sweet and I loved the way they get to know each other and love blossoms. There are some heartbreaking twists in the story along the way but the themes of faith and reliance on God keep the overall tone more heartwarming as the characters struggle to make sense of their circumstances.

The Farmer’s Bride is a story of a young man who has a secret hobby and about a young lady who is hiding from suitors. This is a sweet story and I enjoyed it.
3.5 stars
This is the second book in the Birch Creek series by this author. It is about life in a Amish community. Well written with a good storyline. Seth is a woodworker at heart but has to put his derams to the side to work on his fathers farm. He keeps to himself and doesn’t have much to do with recreational activities in the community. Martha is a single woman that is bothered by the attention the men in the community gives to her she isn’t comfortable with the idea of marrying any of them. In comes the matchmaker who decideds they would be perfect for each other and goes out of her way to see it happen. there is a lot of ups and downs for this young couple while they try to live life the way they want it.
I love Kathleen Fuller’s books, and am happy to return to Birch Creek!
The Farmer’s Bride by Kathleen Fuller is the second book in the Birch Creek series. Martha Detweiler has the most unusual problem. She is the only single young adult female in Birch Creek and the apple of every single boys eye! Martha is overwhelmed with the unwanted attention and spends more time hiding than socializing. Seth Yoder is a hard working young man. Although he isn’t fond of farming, he has made a promise to himself to always help his father. His father labored long and hard through difficult years to make the farm what it is today. Seth has a secret hobby that he dreams someday he can work at full time. He has no interest in socializing especially with Martha Detweiler! The town matchmaker, Cevilla, believes the two can fool everyone by pretending to be a couple, thus giving Martha some space and Seth time for his hobby. But sometimes good intentions can spiral out of control with a lot of interesting and comical consequences!
The Farmer’s Bride is a great story with likeable and humorous characters, a great setting, and an Amish community that is willing to go the extra mile to keep Birch Creek the wonderful place that it is!
Some women might enjoy being the only single woman in their community and having several young men pursuing them but Martha Detweiler isn’t one of those women. She knows that she needs to be thinking about marriage but this isn’t the way she wants to get a husband. Seth Yoder is the only bachelor in Birch Creek who isn’t after Martha and he feels no need to claim a wife. At the suggestion of a beloved older member of the Amish community Martha and Seth begin a little deception: they will act like they’re seeing each other and then, finally, they will have some peace!
I liked the characters of Martha and Seth and I am especially glad to re-visit Cevilla and Richard , the two older people that we first met in A Chance to Remember, the novella that Kathleen Fuller penned for An Amish Reunion. Cevilla and Richard now admit to being in love but they still face the hurdle of Cevilla being Amish and Richard being an “Englisher”.
This is a fun story but it is has serious moments also. Seth yearns to make a living with his wood carvings but he feels obligated to help on his family’s farm. Martha also enjoys creating beautiful objects from wood and she and Seth take pleasure in having this is common. Soon, Martha realizes that Cevilla’s Plan B isn’t as far-fetched as she believed because she is actually beginning to have feelings for Seth. The Farmer’s Bride shows that we never know what is waiting around the bend and we should never close our minds (and hearts) to the possibility of love.
You will definitely want to read The Farmer’s Bride if you enjoy stories about the Amish way of life and if you believe that romance can occur at any time of life. I truly enjoyed this book.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but a positive review was not required.
4.5 Loved this story! See my review at: http://notenoughtimeforbooks.blogspot.com/2019/05/the-farmers-bride-by-kathleen-fuller.html
This book by author Kathleen Fuller had me chuckling. Often. The way she developed her characters was incredible. They were so true to life. I loved them!
A heart-warming story with lots of emotion, Martha and Seth both struggled with being single in an Amish community that has an adorable matchmaker who makes it hard to say no. As always in Ms. Fuller’s books, God is working in hearts to do His will.
I found this to be a page turner because I wanted to see what in the world would happen next with Martha and all those single guys. I highly recommend grabbing a copy!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
I loved being back in Birch Creek, and back with old friends, this being the second book in the series, and the author gives us updates, so you won’t be lost starting with this read, but the first was equally good!
From beginning to end we are with Martha, and her man problems, when all the men seem to want her, but the one she wants.
We also see Cevilla meet her match with newcomer Delilah, and wonder if these two will ever live their faith, much less become friends.
A really sweet read, that will keep you page-turning, and now I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.
The Farmers bride
This is a real enjoyable story. This is a second book in the series. I am definitely looking forward to next book. But in the meantime I need to read the first book. I actually didn’t realize this was the second one so definitely written as a stand alone.
Martha is not looking to get married. A lot of the guys is wanting to get her attention. Cevilla suggests she dates Seth since he is the only that hasn’t been interested. They do end up being friends and pretend like they are dating. There is a lot of characters and so I wasn’t sure who would end up with who. I definitely recommend reading the book to see.
I received a advanced copy of the book from NetGalley through the author. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
Mrs. Fuller never fails her fans when she creates these amazing, real-to-life Amish stories that she fills with hope, understanding and mercy. This is the second book in her Amish Brides Of Birch Creek series, and, just like the first book, it did not disappoint! From start to finish, I loved every second of Martha and Seth’s story.
Sweet Martha! Oh how I loved her! A beautiful Amish woman who just wanted to be left alone by all the single Amish men in her community. I don’t blame her, though. When she meets Seth, I loved their interaction! I absolutely adored Seth! He was a wonderfully chiseled character and I could feel his emotions and feelings as if they were mine. He thought he was helping her out……..but, what was a farce, soon turned out to be much, much more.
If you are looking for a story that will warm your heart, grip your emotions and take you one a wonderful, whirlwind ride, then grab this book up now. It’s a page turner that will keep you awake long into the night. This is a 4 star read that has wonderful messages woven into the story line and will be on my keeper shelf for a long time to come! Hats off and two thumbs up to the talent that is known as Kathleen Fuller.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan, NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*Kathleen Fuller
A fun story of a single Amish woman being pursued by a group of single Amish men in Birch Creek. What a problem to have but Martha Detweiler is not interested in any of them. A couple of grandmotherly types think matchmaking is the solution, but that does lead to trouble. Will Martha’s scheme to throw everyone off by faking a romantic interest in Seth Yoder backfire? This is a stand-alone book. Although one confusing thing were characters that popped in whose names, I didn’t recognize that I assumed were in the first book in the series. Therefore, I would recommend reading them in order. The lessons learned are valuable to all of us. A fun story with a delightful ending. Enjoy!
I was given a copy from the publisher. The opinions are my own.
Martha is the only single young lady in her community with plenty of attention . Unwanted attention she isn’t interested . She goes to Cevilla to seek assistance on how to tell these men she doesn’t want to date any of them. She has been hurt before and doesn’t want to be hurt again. Her friend has set up a scavenger hunt and she attends just to run away from the guys again. She finds a little building in the woods and goes in to hide. This is where she find Seth the bishops son. He has been hiding the fact he comes here to do woodworking. His family has a farm and works the farm with the bishop and his brothers. They are both interested in woodworking and make a plan . He will teach her wood working and against his better judgement agrees to pretend to be in a relationship. There is a new family in town and Delilah may be have met her match in Cevilla. They are both trying to match make . Nina is Delilah’s granddaughter and she would love for her to be with the bishops son. Nina is a tom boy and Seth does not interest her especially since he is with Martha. Just when he is ready to tell everyone the truth Seth finds he has feelings for Martha. Martha also has feelings for Seth. Different situations come up that keep them apart and they have to make their feelings known and work on their real feelings. Net galley and the publisher supplied me with this book for my honest review.
