5 Holy Freaking Cow Stars
I’m not sure exactly sure what I just read, but HOLY SHIT! I want to know how the hell Tillie Cole comes up with stuff. Oh, to spend a day inside her mind. It always amazes me how the sweetest authors can come up with some of the most darkest, twisted stories.
This prequel is a glimpse into who are the Fallen and how they came about. Joseph and Michael are brothers who are sent to the Holy Innocents home for boys at an early age. Both polar opposites. Joseph is set for priesthood, and does everything in his power to protect his little brother. Michael is different in an extreme way and when he is taken away to be “punished” for his sins, Joseph stops at nothing to find him and protect him.
From the very first page I was hanging on the edge of my seat, drinking in every single word Cole put down. I devoured this story in one sitting, gasping out loud I can’t tell how many times. If you are a lover of all things dark and Tillie Cole, this one is right up your alley. Don’t hesitate, #oneclick this one today! I can’t wait to meet the Fallen individually…bring on Raphael!
Angela – Alphas Do It Better Book Blog
Nobody can write Dark like Tillie can!!
when she wants to, she can mark your soul with a Red hot poker with TC and you’ll forever be her slave. I was so engrossed watching this train wreck of a book, I legit forgot to move from the couch all day. This book is a prequel….. A VERY ESSENTIAL Novella which gives you a glimpse of the horrors to come in the entire series.
Remember these names –
Bara, Uriel, Sela, Diel, Raphael, and Michael….
The Sleeping Fallen.
Boys who wanted to kill. Boys who walked in the dark, not the light. Lost boys. Boys with no hope, and no one, left in this world.
It starts off on an ominous and dreadful note and that was the softest note of all!!
Each step I took as I went down the story, was like taking hidden steps down the Purgatory. I was chained and locked and hurt and tortured. My eyes wide open, unable to unsee and unhear the heinous barbarity and vulgarity that destroys innocence and breeds monsters.
I’m shook so bad, not because of the pitch darkness that colors this book’s pages. I’m more petrified of WHAT’S TO COME!!
The Holy Innocents Purgatory is where Devils are created, venom is distilled and Inquisition is practiced.
The end result is 7 of the purest evil beings, that they’re almost fluorescent green. An army of 7 against the Mighty Brethren!!
Seven for the deadly sins, and seven for the heavenly virtues that would aid in his redemption.
Watch out for these 7 Angels…keep an eye out for them. Meanwhile strengthen your guts cause the ensuing books will hit you hard.
In all of this there’s a very dim flickering candle of hope -Joseph Keller.
“Jesus walked with the sinners. The righteous path would be to walk alongside these boys . . . his brothers. He wouldn’t abandon them.”
The end had me agog. Completely overwhelmed. I’m on tenterhooks……what am I going to do till Raphael comes along
Read the book…read the series and keep handy a decanter of whiskey
You’re gonna need it!!!
5 stars “Joseph Take The Wheel”
“We are fallen. Just like the original rebel himself, Lucifer, refusing to bow to God, to good—”
What the WHAT!?!?! Let’s be real here, you don’t start a Tillie Cole book without knowing there’s going to be a #MindFuckAlert!, right? It’s just a given. So, I go in expecting the unexpected, but she still always manages to surprise me. I don’t even…uh…um…just read it!
There’s no explaining or describing going to happen here. You just have to go in blind. Prepare yourself, you’re going to the dark side, and you may not come back. You might decide that light is overrated. Everything you thought you believed might need to be reconsidered once you’ve experienced The Fallen.
After reading this prequel it becomes very clear why the author decided to let us dip our toes in the water before we jump all the way in. The Genesis is mind-bending and takes some getting used to. Now that I’ve let it marinate a bit, I’m ready for the fire. Bring it on. The line forms here…
GAAAH…this book was seriously amazeballs. This was not a surprise to me because this author’s SICK FUX book remains one of my favorite dark and twisted books ever. I am leaving this review purposely vague because you really need to go into this one blind. It’s twisted. It’s dark. It’s seriously f-cked up. You will need to watch some cute kitten videos after reading it (#Truth). This prologue is just a short (but info packed) taste of what is coming. It sets the series up perfectly, and I adored every minute.
Bring on Raphael…
That. Was. INCREDIBLE!! With this prequel, Tillie Cole not only took my mind down a dark and painful road, but my heart was along for the ride. I read this entire book with my heart constantly in my throat, not knowing what to expect next, and completely devoted to its characters.
Holy Innocents was the home to orphaned children. A residence of the Catholic Church, the priests were their mentors and children were being led down a righteous path. Most turned to the church and became priests themselves. Others… well, let’s just say that they weren’t full of righteousness. But Holy Innocents holds secrets, ones that can tear a young boy apart, things that can cause disillusionment, and ways that could derail even the most pious of souls. What do you do when all that is good becomes bad?
I loved everything about this story, from the introduction of the seven angels who will be featured in the books to come, the history of the Brethren, and the convoluted motives of the characters. The author did a brilliant job of illustrating the torment these boys suffered through while they took turns twisting my emotions. I don’t know what it is about their proclivities that makes them so attractive, but I’m here to learn everything there is to know about them. I’m not sure if happy endings are in the future, but I can’t wait to discover where these stories will lead.
This novella is an introduction into the dark world of this addictive new series.
This is an introduction that sets the stage beautifully in preparation for the upcoming novel Raphael.
Alongside “The Fallen” our Blinkers are removed and we get to experience the brutality that is purgatory (a hidden underground place of hell on earth)
Joseph in a baptism of blood has his eyes savagely opened and finally discovers his true calling as a saviour and protector of his new unorthodox family. Now reborn as there brother Gabriel he will have to earn his place in purgatory along these other lost souls seemingly past all redemption.
beneath the supposed good of these priests, The Brethren lies the true rot and rather than washing away the sins the savagery committed against these Lost Boys only cements this brotherhood in a bond of solidarity.
This was as expected fantastic: I really can’t wait to jump in head first to the first book here.
As a taster, this definitely captured my attention so job well done.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of The Fallen: Genesis (Deadly Virtues, #0.5).

2 boys.
Brothers.
Completely different.
Different paths carved out for them.
Until there wasn’t.
It was heartbreaking, hard to read in places but shows us the beginning. The beginning of The Fallen…..
‘Blood for blood. Flesh for flesh.’
Well, I don’t even know what to say other than….HOLY FUCKING HELL!!!! This book came highly recommended by many bookstafriends and this is my first Tillie Cole read but definitely won’t be the last!
“He would find a way to protect them all. All of the boys with upturned crosses on their chests and darkness in their hearts. Boys with the names of angels but the thirst of demons in their blood.”
This book was dark and definitely not for the faint of heart, for some maybe too much but to understand the story sometimes you have to dive into the deep it’s not always lollipops and unicorns. This read definitely intrigued me, grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let up until the end. I need the next book because I need more of the Fallen!!!
“Gabriel, The Fallen’s one and only protector. The one pure angel in a sea of Satan-like sinners.”
Ohhhhhhh…… Myyyyyyy…. GOD!! This series is going to make the Hangmen look like a light bedtime read! Take the warning, this series is dark dark, blood lust and characters that harbour sinister fantasies.
I love books that show the corrupt side of the church, it satiates my theories that a vast (not all) part of religion and the church is a cover up for priests who commit depraved and forbidding activities. Using God and God’s way to justify their sick and twisted way of life. This book is exactly how I depict the Catholic faith. As always awesome writing from Tillie with a plot that is not only original but addictive too; it will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.
This book is a novella, an introduction to the series so it’s really hard to write a review without giving too much of the plot away. If you love dark then this book will definitely feed your black heart
Captivating, dark, twisted and thoroughly intriguing………
I don’t often give five stars to a novella, mainly because although I might thoroughly enjoy them, they tend not to have quite the depth to make me really feel. And I love to feel the impact of those emotions that grab and don’t let go. Tillie Cole has done just that with the detail she has expertly written in this prequel.
Omg this book, it’s dark, brutal, twisted and full of possible triggers but has introduced a group of seven intriguing, depraved, damaged boys forced to endure unspeakable things by a secret sect of priests in the name of purging the “demons” from their souls. It was horrifying at times but unputdownable. I found I couldn’t look away from the pages as I lived their pain through the eyes of Joseph, reborn in blood as Gabriel, protector of The Fallen. Now as they’ve grown into men I need to know their stories, their future. Are they redeemable or does their inner darkness damn them all? There was so much to this story which has perfectly set the scene for the Deadly Virtues series. It is absolutely not for the faint hearted but the seven have grabbed hold of what must be the dark little part of my heart. Bring on Raphael………
5* Riveting Stars
Wow, this prequel novella in The Deadly Virtues Series was riveting!!! I could not put it down and was turning the pages as fast as I could.
It was dark and chilling and had me captivated! If this is how the prequel enraptured me, I know that the rest of the series will be epic and unputdownable!
What took me so long to read this, diving into the next book now!!!
What an intro to The Fallen!!! The beginning! It was dark and extremely interesting. The 7 Fallen boys stuck in purgatory. Joseph/Gabriel seeks to rescue his brothers from the depravity the brethren of the church have been doing to them for years. But the boys do have dark souls. They are killers and Gabriel has to teach them how to control their urges. I loved it! I’m very excited to read about each of them!
The Fallen: Genesis by Tillie Cole is a dark novella. It’s the prequel to the Deadly Virtues series.
This is the introduction of the Fallen Angels: Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, Raphael, Selaphiel, Jegudiel, and Barachiel. We get to know how
they were named, their torture, and their purpose in life. The plot is incredible, I have never read a book like this one. It has
suspense, mystery, torture. It’s a disturbingly dark and twisted story filled with moments that made me quiver from fear and disgust.
A short book that gives you a glimpse of the horrors that will follow. The characters were interesting I can’t wait to read what
each of them will do in the future.
A unique dark tale based on the brotherhood. I will rate it with 5 stars because it surprised me.
When Joseph and James were orphaned they ended up in Holy Innocents, an orphanage run by catholic priests. The kids were mentored by
them in order to follow the right path. Some of the kids became priests when they turned of age. Some of the kids that had a dark side
ended up elsewhere. Holy Innocents weren’t the place most thought, there were secrets that were darker than the devil’s soul.
What could a kid, that was pure, do after being exposed to that darkness?
It’s been forever since I’ve read anything by Tillie Cole, but decided Diel’s book is coming out soon(ish) so I had to get this one started so I can jump right in! It felt like coming back home when I started this novella. It’s raw, dark, twisted, and nothing held back just like my dark little heart loves. This is a prequel (must be read) before any of the books in the Fallen series because it’s the intro in to this new world and a little bit of background on how they came all together to become ‘The Fallen.’
“Seven for the deadly sins, and seven for the heavenly virtues that would aid in his redemption.”
I won an ARC through a Facebook giveaway. I read and finished the day before its release but due to scheduling, it’s taken a few days to be able to write the review. I’m angry at myself for this as it is no way to pay back the author for her generosity.
This book is a wonderful start to the series (Only 11 more days left!) It really sets up the boys of the series, what shaped them, why they are how they are, and who helped them become this way, part of the Fallen.
After its ending, i can’t wait to see how this will all come together in the books.
I finished this book at midnight. I couldn’t go to sleep right away. I was just trying to process everything I just had read. I know this book is just the prequel and it was already pretty dark. I can just imagine how Raphael’s story is going to be! All these books in this series are going to be a wild ride!
These poor boys… what they had to endure in “Purgatory” was absolutely horrible.
Each boy that was sent to purgatory was sent for a reason. They had certain urges that they couldn’t contain. These priests took it upon themselves to “try” to rid them of their darkness.
These priests had their own set of evilness within them.
I can’t wait to read Raphael’s story. I honestly don’t know how any of these boys will find peace with themselves or another person. But I can’t wait to find out!!!
*ARC provided for an honest review*
We have been teased for a while with this series. This has the dark code of BLACK and is equal to Sick fux. Sick fux hit my hard limit I’m not a fan of reading abuse of children however I was intrigued with the blurb and the excitement of TC. This is a great start to this series. Joseph is special you feel this from the very beginning. He’s a born leader. Mission in life is to help people. I’m not going to say a lot, all I am willing to say is I can see where the story is heading and I’m so excited.
The wrongs of the world will be righted by the boys with the name of angels but the thirst of demons in their blood.
Wow.
What a dark and terribly horrific start to a series. The things these boys go through is horrific, not the story or writing. Just to clarify. I mean I gave it 5 stars!
This prequel is incredibly well written but VERY dark. The blurb truly says everything you need to know. There are triggers for self harm, child physical and sexual abuse, rape, and violence. Do not take that warning lightly. I’m not going to lie, I skipped one particular scene that I couldn’t stomach reading.
But still such an interesting and dark story! I swear this could be a tv series or movie! The Fallen were reborn and I hope they get their revenge. I’m intrigued to see how Tilllie can possibly spin each of their stories/books…I mean these guys are truly sociopaths and psychopaths. I can’t wait for book 1 to come in the mail!
Now I need to read something fluffy/happy to cleanse my heart and soul. Or cuddle a basket full of puppies.
4.5 stars
Holy wowzers! This is setting up to be a dark, twisted & dynamite series… YAY!!
Love how each guy has his own unique demons he’s fighting but how they all share such a wicked thirst for blood. The Fallen are not to be messed with & we will definitely be seeing their wrath soon!
VERY curious how the romance aspect will come into play; especially with their rules…
*runs off to one-click Raphael, the next book in the series*
Omg this book was crazy twisted read that I couldn’t put down. There were times were it was hard too read but I knew Tillie’s style and I couldn’t not finish. This is a very dark read and I can’t wait too read the next book in this series.
