Star FBI detective Amos Decker and his colleague Alex Jamison must solve four increasingly bizarre murders in a dying rust belt town–and the closer they come to the truth, the deadlier it gets in this rapid-fire #1 New York Times bestseller. Something sinister is going on in Baronville. The rust belt town has seen four bizarre murders in the space of two weeks. Cryptic clues left at the … clues left at the scenes–obscure bible verses, odd symbols–have the police stumped.
Amos Decker and his FBI colleague Alex Jamison are in Baronville visiting Alex’s sister and her family. It’s a bleak place: a former mill and mining town with a crumbling economy and rampant opioid addiction. Decker has only been there a few hours when he stumbles on a horrific double murder scene.
Then the next killing hits sickeningly close to home. And with the lives of people he cares about suddenly hanging in the balance, Decker begins to realize that the recent string of deaths may be only one small piece of a much larger scheme–with consequences that will reach far beyond Baronville.
Decker, with his singular talents, may be the only one who can crack this bizarre case. Only this time–when one mistake could cost him everything–Decker finds that his previously infallible memory may not be so trustworthy after all…

I cheated and read this book in hard cover, but only because Baldacci is a fantastic writer and it came my way. This story of a “fallen” town full of poverty is the scene of the crime that happens next door to the vacation destination of a pair of detectives. Nothing is the same after a pair of bodies is found and we find the partners clearing up a mystery that has the whole town scared…and clear the name of a man who has been hated by the town for generations. Read this with full knowledge that you will be putting off things you should be doing soon.
I love the series. Now on book #4
I enjoyed this book since it was dealing with a lot of today’s issues which so many people would rather skirt around rather than deal head on with. Read it and enjoy.
Another great Amos Decker book!
love the amos decker character
My husband bought this book from Amazon for me.
Great book plenty of twist and turns. This book will keep you guessing the entire book. You should definitely read this book.
Typical Baldacci. Can stop at any time and pick up anytime. Action keeps you in suspense. He cleans up the loose ends at the end and finalizes the story.
Another one of David’s that you can’t put down.
I’ve been a fan of David Baldacci for a while and love his new character, Amos Decker. However, I found that this book just didn’t have the interest factor that the other Amos Decker books had. It was a little disappointing.
A realistic story of how pervasive the opioid crisis can be in a town dependent on a single manufacturer for livelihoods. Characters and ending a complete surprise. Bravo to David Baldacci for another hit!!
Really like his book fast and interesting
Baldacci does it again!
I love the Amos Decker character. Well written.
David Baldacci never disappoint me. His new book is wonderful, great character development and action. This is one book I stayed up all night reading!
Love the Amos Decker books. Actually, I love anything Baldacci. Wonderful books, real characters and story lines.
Baldacci’s FBI special consultant–who literally can’t forget anything–regains a touch of his humanity and feelings (lost as the result of a catastrophic brain injury) as he strives to solve a string of murders and protect a vulnerable little girl.
The Amos Decker novels are great reads. This one is original and interesting. Good concept, fully explored, and a story well told.
I always enjoy books, by this author and, this one is no exception
Memory man the best series he writes!
I have been a big Baldacci fan since his Camel Club series. This is another good one!
