A gripping Mystery/Crime Novella by USA Today Bestselling Author Lena Bourne. The local butcher in a small Italian town fell to his death during a hike. Most likely an unfortunate accident, but his mother cries murder. By a member of the US Military no less. Enter Mark Novak, the Military’s Special Investigator and not the detective he used to be. An old lover works the case alongside him. … lover works the case alongside him. She’s still as enticing and willing as ever. As the case unfolds, Novak uncovers mostly new questions, not answers. Soon, the accident looks more like murder. And she only adds to the confusion.
Novak must either find a way out to trust his skill and intuition again, or a murderer walks free.
For fans of puzzle mysteries and twist endings.
Note: This is a mystery/crime story and NOT a Romance novel.

A great and intriguing start to the series, characters that are easily imaginable, believable and I feel going to be interesting to get to know.
The plot of the story is extremely well written and flowed easily. I was gripped from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down.
This is only my second book from this author and I certainly am excited to read more.
It has to be on your “must-read” list.
I received this book for free from the author and wanted to give an honest review.
This book is a prequel so it’s a novella. It’s an interesting story about Mark, a still young but aging investigator who was brought in to investigate what had originally appeared to be an accidental fall in Italy, but it becomes clear to him that there is something more to the circumstances of the death.
The story is well written and I enjoyed it. This is the first book that I’ve read by the author and I look forward to reading more of her books. The characters are believable and the investigation is well written. I think this book can be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages.
THIS MAY BE A SHORT STORY BUT IT HAS ALL THE DARK, DEVIOUS AND EMOTIONAL WALLOP OF ANY LONG NARRATIVE I’VE READ. THE CHARACTERS ARE ENGAGING, INTENSE, POIGNANT AND TRAGIC. A HEARTBREAKING STORY THAT WILL KEEP YOU CAPTIVE UNTIL THE VERY LAST WORD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
FREE FROM THE AUTHOR, THIS IS MY HONEST AND FREELY GIVEN REVIEW.
This is the start of a new series and it whets the appetite for more. There may be a serial killer on the loose in Italy, and all signs point to a member of the US military. Military investigator Mark is brought in to solve the mystery. Can this almost retired detective find a killer?
Good story and lead in to a new series.
The Fall is an interesting prequel to the E&M Investigations series. Special Investigator Mark Novak is in Italy on an investigation where he finds out an ex is going to be one of his helpers for the case. This was my first book by this author and the characters and the story intrigued me enough to read the next book in the series.
A great murder mystery with well developed characters. The story line is captivating and flows smoothly from page to page. Highly recommended for those that love a good mystery.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Murder mystery solved quickly by a military officer who remembered his past – 4.5 stars
Mark arrives in Northern Italy and proceeds to gather information. Mark is a quick study. Meeting his girlfriend Mia from ten years ago brought back memories. Nice memories.
There were short interviews involving all the right people trying to resolve how a non-athletic, non-hiker Giuseppe Bari managed to fall off a steep mountain.
Throughout the book Mark kept remarking about his run in with “The Fairytale Killer” but that story has not been released as of the writing of The Fall. I found the dark view that Mark expressed to be without merit since we can’t read the important back story yet.
The day in the life in early spring of a small town in northern Italy was done quite well.
Mark gets a confession that no one wanted to hear. It is a good story.
This was a great mystery story filled with characters that were well written. I look forward to more books like this one from this author.
