When Nate Hawthorne meets Asher Dane, the huge, tattooed hunk is the personification of Nate’s dreams. But Nate knows there’s no future, because Asher is also the personification of his beloved five-year-old daughter Delly’s nightmares. She’s frightened of big men. Things turn around for both of them, however, when Delly goes Christmas shopping at the Fairy Shop and begins her quest for a wand … that will make her brave. Neither of them guesses that the Fairy Shop will be the source of far more than Delly’s courage. On Christmas Eve, under the influence of a very unusual fairy, Nate’s life will change forever.

This is another one of those stories that packs a lot into the short tale. Delly has so much fear and Her Daddy really cares so much for her and wants to do the best for her. The patience and understand that Asher shows is amazing. All three of them are touched by the fairy master.
Nate is a single dad living in what seems to be a magical town in Oregon. He has a five-year old daughter named Delphine and the two of them are preparing for Christmas. Delly also seems to have terrible anxiety issues. She had been living with her mother, but her mom started dating a large, mean man that terrified her. Nate got custody but Delly, unfortunately, still has some deep fears. As the father – daughter are going shopping they find The Fairy Shop! That is an amazing store that is filled with fairies, elves and tons of magic! Ophelia is the store’s owner/manager and she immediately connects with Delly. Now, you may think thanks to the beginning of this review that the story is only about a five year old girl. Yeah… No.
Nate had been trying to meet someone new, had a babysitter and everything, but sort of struck out. Then he tries again and meets Asher. Wowza! Asher is a pretty amazing man and an incredibly hot one too! The two of them have great chemistry and want to see more of each other. Sighs. The problem is that Delly is terrified of Asher and begins to scream any time she sees him. Yes, with that the Nate and Asher aren’t going to be having too many family nights together. I have to say that I had forgotten how magical Ms. Lain’s stories are and she worked her magic in this one! I loved the story and the characters and need to dig up all my other Tara Lain books to read!
This is such a sweet little Christmas story!
After his neighbor convinces him to have a night out, Nate Hawthorne decides to go to The Rose and Crown for a few drinks and maybe even a quick hookup. After receiving full custody of his daughter, he knows that he cannot have a full relationship, but he still feels the need to let off some steam with a little lovin’. As he sits at the bar having a glass of wine, he catches a huge, delicious, tattooed man. When they lock eyes his breath catches. This man is perfect for him, the only problem is Delly and her fear of big men.
Asher Dane wants what Nate is willing to give him. After the Nate runs out The Rose and Crown on the night they first see each other, luck is on his side and Nate wonders into the bar again. They decide to have a great night. Nate goes home to his daughter, but after they exchange numbers in the off chance that they can meet again. The next night during a quick ice cream date, Delly’s babysitter calls Nate in a panic that his ex and her drunk boyfriend, who made Delly scared of large men in the first place, have turned up at his home to try and see Delly. Nate and Asher rush to his house to save Delly from the scary nightmare.
Asher helps stop the boyfriend and saves Delly and Nate from any harm; however, Delly’s fear is now higher than ever and with Asher being even larger than her mom’s boyfriend, she is terrified of him. Both meant think that their relationship is over before it even truly got started…but is it?
I am a sucker for a single dad, splashes of magic, flamboyant outfits and little children whose eye’s are open to all the possibilities in the world. I recommend reading this book. It was lovely and I had a smile on my face for the majority of the book.
This story is filled with sweetness, and Holiday magic. I loved the details of the Fairy shop and Ophelia. I liked the way little Delly connects with Ophelia and dresses like her. I also like how Delly just doesn’t run up and grab a wand and ponders it over a few days’ time trying to select just the right one. The heat between Asher and Nate is snow melting (I couldn’t help myself). So great characters, a tiny bit of suspense (Delly’s reason for being afraid is sad) fabulous descriptions and I loved the meanings of names and stuff. A must-read holiday story!
Move over Miracle on 34th Street this Christmas story will give you all the feels. Nate is trying to be the best dad he can to the exclusion of anything looking like a love life. When he sees Asher for the first time he is smitten. Can this huge, tattooed hunk cure the Christmas blues for Nate and his little girl. I adored this sweet story for so many reasons. You will too.
The Fairy Shop by Tara Lain was given in exchange for an honest review. Nate and Asher are just way too adorable for words. I really enjoyed this novella it inspires a belief in the magic that’s in all of us.
Sweet Story! I loved it! I love the fact the Asher was totally different than he appeared. This was a wonderful Christmas story. Great read. This is definitely one of my favorites.
Nate lives with his daughter. Trauma from her past makes him very protective. He finally goes out one night and sets eyes on the perfect man. “Oh God, the best thing ever—ever!” It takes a while but he finally gets to spend some up close and personal time with Asher.
A sweetly spun story, covered in fairy dust and a little girls wishes. Light story with a little drama, but mostly happiness. The book was short in length but long on the Christmas spirit.
