A fun and easy to read books about a related family of females and the entertaining look at each ones life.
The books were cute, but a little silly. Easy reads.
A seriously whacky read. If the Regency era want to take themselves seriously, then this story will bring them to their knees. The author has a wicked sense of humor and brings it full tilt into her stories. Whimsical, fanciful, absurd and downright farcical situations and characters that can only make you laugh out loud. Well done Anya, keep up the good writing.
This is one of those Clean & Wholesome books but it still was a good story and funny.
Characters easy to predict. Especially in books two and three
I actually was going to stop reading after just a few pages in because it was so ridiculous! But I didn’t and I’m so glad. Yes, the stories are ridiculous but so funny! I laughed out loud a number of times. The characters are so likable and charming, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Keep reading!
Okay, I need to stop laughing long enough to type this review. I decided to read Penelope because I have read this author’s work before and found it well-written lighthearted entertainment. In my opinion, it is safe to say that she surpassed her other effort with this new tantalizing Regency Romp trilogy featuring the madcap heroines known as the Fairweather Sisters that would rival some of the best in the light historical romance genre.
Penelope comes up to London and takes the town by storm first, then Celine, and then Dorothy. Each has their own zany, bumbling ways of setting events into motion and befuddling the men who come to love them.
The light-hearted stories are sheer entertainment, but have a sweetness and charm to them behind all the crazy moments. Those who enjoy Regency Romantic Comedy should definitely give these a go.
Really did not enjoy this book at all. Characters were immature and storyline improbable. Did not finish.
A 3 book pack, read other books in between each book. A humourous send up of lords and ladies romance.
Books 1 and 2 are “laugh out loud ” funny. Book 3 is good, but not as witty as 1 & 2. Enjoyed the series.
Penelope’s story is the best one
Within this set of three books, I liked the first one the best. Although the duke in Penelope’s story was pretty unlikable, still the writing and story contained some really humorous scenes that indeed prompted me to laugh out loud.
The other two books fell flat and I really didn’t enjoy them and had to push myself to finish the stories.
Content 411: There is some mild swearing and some kissing, but there is no explicit sexual content.
Penelope: Leaving behind the rural charms of Finnshire, Penelope Fairweather arrives in London with hope in her heart and a dream in her eye. A dowager, no less, has invited her for a season in London, where she will attempt to catch a husband. – Penelope is country and full of funny and off-the-wall comments. She warms the hearts of most who meet her. The dowager was a friend of Penelope’s mother, who passed away when Penelope was a baby. She lives with her son, Duke Charles, and daughter, Lady Anne. The dowager and Anne love Penelope, but Charles finds her too unrefined and irritating. The mistakes Penelope makes are humorous and entertaining. The dowager and Anne constantly take up for her. This is a fun book.
Seeking Philbert Woodbead: Celine hurtles off to London to help the duchess run the Blackthorne Mansion and to discover the whereabouts of her lost love, Philbert Woodbead. – Parts of this were laugh-out-loud funny. Most was silly or billing. I was anxious to finish this one.
Dorothy: Circumstances force Dorothy May Fairweather to marry Lord William Edmund Huxley, the man her best friend is in love with and the Duke’s archenemy. With her one foolish mistake, Dorothy manages to vex all those that mean the most to her. – This is my favorite of the three books. Dorothy was spoiled, mischievous, and fun. Penny, her duke, Celine, and Celine’s husband were part of the story. Dorothy warmed the hearts of everyone she met. She was giving and caring. William was better with Dorothy.
Enjoyed them all. I enjoyed knowing they would “all live happily ever after” –but just didn’t know HOW. And I enjoyed discovering the turns and twists that these sisters and their intendeds went thru. A nice “safe” reading trio–no dripping anger, or revealing personal sex-life, no foul language. Just sweet entertaining reads. Thanks!
Love her style of writing! Really funny and endearing. Characters are special
If you like a clean romance and like to laugh this is the book for you.
I enjoyed all three books. The first two more than the third. But all entertaining.
Wonderful, funny, I enjoyed the sisters. I just wanted to keep reading, each book was great. Thank you!
The first book with Penelope was the best, It was very entertaining. The other two were okay, they were missing something. Overall good reads with one great one. Sorry , just thought you wanted MY honest opinion.
The characters were ridiculous. I couldn’t continue reading.
Couldn’t finish. A bit choppy, and situations were too silly for me to look forward to author’s resolution.
