Zeke Daniels isn’t just a douchebag; he’s an asshole. A total and complete jerk, Zeke keeps people at a distance. He has no interest in relationships—most assholes don’t. Dating? Being part of a couple? Nope. Not for him. He’s never given any thought to what he wants in a girlfriend, because he’s never had any intention of having one. Shit, he barely has a relationship with his family, and they’re … has a relationship with his family, and they’re related; his own friends don’t even like him.
So why does he keep thinking about Violet DeLuca?
Sweet, quiet Violet—his opposite in every sense of the word.
The light to his dark, even her damn name sounds like rays of sunshine and happiness and shit.
And that pisses him off, too.

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about Sara Ney’s writing. It’s…electric. Nothing happens in these books. Not really. But it doesn’t matter. The characters banter like bosses. They snap and zing off the page, vibrant, alive, realistic, hilarious. Real.
I was so excited for this story. From the first one where we met Ozzy, I knew this one was coming. Zek is like chief of the douchebags. The big kahuna. He does not disappoint. It opens with him irritated because he stumbles across a kid alone in the store and he calls Violet “Shitty Nanny” both to her face and in his head for the first act of the book. That may not really sound funny…but it is.
Ney has a true talent for making you see the heart of the character through the jackass facade. Zek doesn’t want to be a good guy, but it’s like he can’t help himself. His instincts are good–he wants to help the kid, but the words he says are so rude. It creates instant humor that Ney tightrope walks through his mini-meltdowns. Violet gently shows him the path toward being a decent human, and I was there for all of it.
Violet doesn’t have the fire of Jameson–the FMC from book 1, but she holds her own. The story is Zek’s though. And he just needs a little love.
Five stars for a book that’s so easy to read, you’ll lose time on it. Bright, vivid, vivacious. This series is spectacular until book 5 where it hits a nosedive. But the first 4 are fantastic and well worth the ride.
This is my third book from Sara Ney and I loved this book as well. This was the story of Zeke and Violet and it was just as good as the first book. Both Violet and Zeke has issues that are brought into their relationship even though Zeke doesn’t want to call it one. The only thing that they have in common is the heat they seem to share for each other. They will have to work out their issues because sex doesn’t solve anything. I can’t wait to read the next on in the series. I keep asking myself, what took me so long to read this author.
You can never go wrong with a Sara Ney romance especially from her “How to Date a Douchebag” series. I clicked on it based on the title alone and wasn’t disappointed. Engaging characters and storylines. Get it!
Oh, don’t mind me, I’m just obsessively binge reading Sara Ney’s How To Date A Douchebag series! Yes, I’m late to the party. Doesn’t matter. If you haven’t read these, I highly recommend them! Each can be read as a standalone, but so far, Zeke and Violet are my fave.
If you read the first book in the series, you’ve already met (and might have strong feelings of intense dislike) for Zeke.
Be prepared to still embrace that dislike at the start of this book.
Then be prepared for the surprise you’ll undoubtedly feel when you realize he now has a piece of your heart, regardless of how much grumbling he’ll do.
Zeke Daniels is an enigma wrapped up in yards and yards and even more yards, pretty much a metric ton of apathy and cold indifference. Until he meets Violet DeLuca. Slowly but surely she breaks through barbed wire prison thick walls he uses as a defense. We learn early on about Zeke’s childhood, and that gives much insight into the reason why Zeke has the attitude he does. But there’s so much more to Zeke than just a horrendous attitude, and it seems that Violet is one of the two people who realize this about him (the other being his coach).
What I absolutely love about both books in this series is that we’re not subjected to any over-the-top and unnecessary drama from outside sources trying to come between each couple. This romance is such a great slow-build, I loved being ringside watching Zeke slowly fall for his Pixie. And it was a beautiful thing to see.
I absolutely loved this book, enough that this will be a re-read for me, and with the amount of books on my TBR, that is certainly telling how much I adored this story!
3.75 stars
This is a new author for me. The title is what caught my eye. Brilliant. Let me tell you, Zeke really was a douchebag. I loved watching his growth throughout the book….with the help of his little, Kyle, and his tutor Violet. By the end, there were tears in my eyes. I enjoyed this one!
I skipped the first book, but I didn’t feel like I was lost. Not sure if I’ll go back and read the first book. But I may check out this author’s other books.
This is the second book in this series and I will be honest, I think this is my favorite thus far. I read this book first and really enjoyed it so I went and read the first and the third. This is a fun series in the college age years. I really love how funny these books are and how much you end up falling for the douche bags. (hahaha). Zeke was my absolute favorite. He is such an ass hole but man you end up loving him and really seeing him! Loved how these big hard guys fall for their girls!!
Violet DeLuca is supposed to tutor Zeke Daniels but when she get a load of the bad attitude and intimidating man she is not sure if she can handle him. Violet has her own issues and although she tries to look at the positive things in her life but she has her own quirks when she feels uncertain. She is shy and when Zeke shows up again demanding to know where his tutor is the gig is up.
Zeke is known for his surly attitude, he doesn’t need anyone nor does he pretend to be anything other than who he is. However, his coach wants him to become a big brother to help his demeanor and when he finds out that Violet takes care of a young girl a couple times a week he decides to see if she can help with the boy he is mentoring. Violet and Zeke form a friendship of sorts but Zeke is a bundle of mixed messages when it comes to Violet. Violet though sees something in Zeke that she understands and although Zeke doesn’t want to let Violet in he realizes that if he doesn’t figure out what he wants he can lose everything he is finding he is wanting.
This was terrific, Zeke is a jerk and although he doesn’t quite change his attitude he does start evolving. I thought Violet was a wonderful character, she has a back bone but at the same time she is sweet and shy. This was a recommendation by someone and I am thrilled to have read it.
I found myself ACTUALLY SAYING “what a douchebag” out loud a few times. Then I would laugh to myself because, well Duh. This guy was a huge douche. Huge! It’s like he didn’t know how to even act around other humans. I absolutely loved his epiphany and his growth. I’m loving my binge of Sara’s books. This was no exception. Zeke was such a jerk but he really changed and his eyes were opened by Violet. This series is just so good.
Zeke being the biggest douchebag gets all the stars. You actually can’t stand him but he falls so beautifully in love with Violet that of course he messes it up and all the feelings and emotions churning inside of him remained and you could feel his hurt. Even though the guys start out horrible, Sara Ney’s writing is amazingly fabulous and makes you fall in love with each guy. I cannot say enough good things about this amazing series!
Zeke is a very angry guy and that doesn’t really change when he meets Violet. They slowly start to become friends and he does treat her differently then he does other people. Violet is pretty shy, but she is a very upbeat person. She is the exact opposite of Zeke. He knows he is a douchbag and he really doesn’t care. They both had crap childhoods, but choose to live differently because of them. Will Zeke be able to keep Violet at a distance? Will Violet be able to help Zeke see a different way to live his life? I know reviews are mixed on this series, but I really enjoy it. Yes the guys are immature jerks, but they can change and grow when they meet the person they are destined for.
This is the second in this series and I definitely saw growth in the author. Character motivations were clear and the characters were nicely developed. I liked the heroine and the hero though initially they weren’t very likable or relatable – the author did a good job developing that. I thought the premise was cute. Again, the sex is steamy with clear and concise description, but I wouldn’t call this erotica – the romance is too important rather than the sex.
I have started once on the first book in the series and stopped. I am over all the college NA stories that are mostly the same or about rude, immature oversexed college ‘hunks’. However, I read in the blog of ‘Stacey is Sassy’ this book is on her favorites of 2017 list and tried a sample. Soon I was lost and could not help but love this story.
Zeke is indeed a very rude douchebag most of the story. I loved Violet however. Every time I thought she got through to Zeke, he would say something awful and I was happy she called him out for it and held a mirror up to him. He needed a wake up call badly. I enjoyed the story and would like to hear more about them. (2017)
Great couples make great stories
The characters of Violet and Zeke pulled me in so quickly. Each with very different childhoods and yet so similar.
The developement of their story, their friendship, and their romatic relationship were so masterfully explored by the author and shared with us in such a beautiful way. No room for excuses in this story and I’m glad they didn’t happen.
This book was just as good as the first one in this series. As with the first book, I read it twice back to back. I can’t recommend this book, this author and this series enough. Another great read!
I love Zeke. He is a complete total jerk. He has an attitude so big. Totally not a one woman kind of guy. Violet is sweet. Love her too. His coach has him into a Big Brother program and its the best thing for him even though it doesn’t seem like it is at first. He has relationship problems. He thinks the world revolves just around him. Until he meets Violet. She lets him have it. She is honest. She is happy all the time and he doesn’t get why. Just love them together. She makes him into a better person. He still has that attitude around other people. Highly recommend this book.
Zeke is the hot cranky guy. He grudgingly (or seems to) do nice things for people but he is such a curmudgeon most don’t catch he’s doing it. Violet is shy and unassuming. She tries to be invisible but she also determinedly does things. She and Zeke are a very unlikely pairing. She helps him realize how to be a better man and he helps give her the courage to make her voice heard. Loved it.
Wow! I really enjoyed reading this 4.5 stars read! I’ve been itching to read this series and it was one I could not put down! I’m still on a high from this book. Full review to posted soon…
OMG – here I was thinking that no one can out do OZ but here comes the second book and proves me wrong!
I fell in love with Zeke and Violet by the chapter 5 and he wasn’t being nice until then – well he’s not nice the entire book but WHO CARES!!!!
The biggest asshole of them all (Zeke Daniels) is just that – an ASSHOLE. He doesn’t care if he hurts anyone’s feeling. He wants what he wants and screw what anyone thinks. When he meets Violet she slowly but surely softness him up.
Violet has a difficult story of growing up. She shows Zeke that people can choose you in order to stay around for good!!!
The whole story in not your typical NA romance – story itself is slowly building up until you don’t know what happens to you.
I do hope we receive more books with this characters because who doesn’t love a Douchebag turn into a “good” guy!!!
L O V E D IT!!!

Favorite Quote: “I’ve had time to recover and grow and move on with my life, but—I never do. Never. What I’ve done is adjust. Bend. Amend. Change. Learn to live without the things I once had. That’s what you do when you lose people you love. They say that once someone dies, they’re always with you in spirit; it’s something I know to be true, because I feel my parents every second of every day. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. It only hurts less.”
Review:
I was interested in Zeke’s story. We didn’t see that much of him in the first book but he behaved like a total asshole when we did see him. I wanted to know whether or not there was more to him than meets the eye.
I’m happy to say that yes there is more than meets the eye, but boy he is such a huge jackass. He really took being a douchebag to a whole other level. You could tell that he was struggling allot with emotions and letting people in. We get some background on why he does that, and it’s understandable why he doesn’t want to let people close. He has major abandonment issues. But I wished we got more detail, more of a background story other than it just being mentioned in passing.
Violet is a sweet girl. A very sweet and innocent girl. She didn’t have it easy growing up, her parents died when she was young and she was send to live with her aunt and uncle but they couldn’t afford to take care of her so she was put in the foster care system. I wished we got more on her background. If we did maybe I could have connected with her more.
She never mentioned being in contact with her family, and that she misses them, and that’s odd to me. If they are that close they could atleast call or text?
Anyhow, Violet really took allot of shit from Zeke. I’m not sure I’d be able to take that much and still keep going.
Overall it was an enjoyable story, I wished we got more background, some more dept to the story.
