I’m Selena Pearce, and in the past few days I’ve been kidnapped by faeries, gifted with powerful magic, and forced by the gods to compete in a twisted game to the death.Growing up on the magical island of Avalon should be great… but I have no magic to speak of. And my parents forbid me from leaving. So when I sneak out to Earth for a night and meet a hottie named Julian with ice blue eyes that … with ice blue eyes that leave me breathless, of course I say yes to a date with him. But when Julian pulls me through a magical portal, I realize he isn’t human. He’s a half-blood faerie sent to bring me to his realm of the Otherworld. Because apparently, I’m a half-blood faerie, too. And I’ve been chosen to compete in the annual Faerie Games—a brutal, gladiator-like competition where half-bloods fight to the death.
Too bad I can’t get my new magic under control. But with all eyes on me, I only have two options: Die in the Faerie Games, or win and earn my freedom.
Now the other players—including Julian, who still captivates me even though I should hate him—better watch out. Because I’m determined to get home.
And I’ll fight anyone blocking my path to get there.
Full of magic, mythology, adventure, and romance, The Faerie Games is the first book in an addicting young adult fantasy series by USA Today bestselling author Michelle Madow that will keep you reading late into the night!

******** May Contain Some Spoilers ********
I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.
I’m flabbergasted! I thought Michelle had done an incredible job with the other Dark World series, boy was I wrong. Don’t take that the wrong way, those are still incredible series! Michelle took this series to a whole new level! I love Selena, thankfully she isn’t anything like her bio-mother. I’m gonna hold off on my opinion about her bio-father, Prince Devyn. So far I don’t like him but maybe he isn’t a whole-a**, have to wait for more information about him. Torrence is Selena’s best friend and she is devastated about Selena. Now Julian, I’m very interested to see how that plays out. This does end in a cliffhanger, surprise! But it’s a holy monkey babies, I gotta have the next book so I know what happens to Prince Jacen kind of cliffhanger.
•••••• I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book/series! ••••••
~~ I have Kindle Unlimited, and I used that service to read this book. ~~
First in a new series for the author that takes place in the same world as her Vampire Wish series. Selena is the pampered daughter of the rulers of Avalon. Her magic seems to be blocked and she isn’t allowed to leave Avalon. One weekend she and her best friend use a potion that makes them look like the other and Selena goes to Earth for the weekend. Everything then goes sideways.
The book has parts that are reminiscent of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Big Brother TV series.I suspect that part of that is that those 2 book series and the TV program hit cultural or literary archetypes that run through much of the young adult literature.
You do not need to have read any of the previous books in this world as the author has built the world well and keeps your interest. The characters are well fleshed out and you care about the main characters of the book. The chapters are titled with which character the chapter is about and is told in the third person rather than first person, which is nice.
All in all, the book is enjoyable and look forward to the next installment.
A thrilling beginning to this magical series…. talk about your emotional roller-coaster rides… this adventure has it all danger, mystery, enchantment, longing and intriguing charters you can’t help but root for! Really enjoyed this journey and looking forward to more.
Don’t you love it when a favorite author comes out with a new book and series start? I certainly do so it’s no surprise that I loved Michelle Madow’s The Faerie Games (Dark World: The Faerie Games Book 1). Frankly though, I can comfortably say that if you’d never heard of this author before you’d still love this book. I got hooked by the blurb’s description of what’s happened to our heroine here, Selena Pearce, whose been “kidnapped by faeries, gifted with powerful magic, and forced by the gods to compete in a twisted game to the death.” The Hunger Games (which I adored, by the way) has nothing on what Selena’s vein put through here. Magic, mythology, action, adventure, thrills and, yes, even romance, this book has it all. It’s an exciting roller-coaster if a read and wonderfully fun. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
What a fantastic start to this series! From the start I was totally hooked and could not put this down! A magical world filled with mythology , adventure and romance, the faerie games is a fast paced and exciting read and I cannot wait to read the next book!
Do you know what I love the most about this author’s stories? It’s that they are always fast-paced and very exciting. There won’t be a single boring moment that you could find in her books. And do you know what I don’t love about her books? They end too soon… (yes, I’m venting here). OMG! It was so cruel when it ended so soon. I want more. I want to keep reading. The only reason why I am staying sane is the knowledge that the next book will be out soon. I can’t wait for it. I’m already in love with this series. It has fairies! what more can a fantasy lover ask for? Right. 😉
Selena has always felt like a failure because she can’t access her magic. She is the only one in Avalon who has no powers to speak of. So, when her best friend brews a special potion for her, she is more than willing to have an adventure of her own. It will be only for a day and no one will ever find out about it. Unfortunately, things go horribly wrong. She is duped by a half-blood and now she is forced to play in Games that are deadly, to say the least. She hopes that her parents would find her soon and save Otherworld from gods who think everything is for their amusement only. For now, she has no choice but to go along with her biological father’s plan and pretend to be someone she isn’t.
Seriously, this series is going to be super exciting if Book One is any indication. I loved everything about the Otherworld and Faerie Games are so thrilling. And they’ve only just begun.
I was so surprised at what I found within the pages of this book. I am so happy to be reunited with old friends from another series that I was in heaven. This has a new world build and lots of mythology written. One of my favorite things to read about. The characters blossom within the pages from chapter to chapter making it an exciting read. Michelle Madow has done one great start of a new series.
Years after “The Angel Island,” Selena ventures away from Avalon and finds herself ensnared in the machinations of fae and gods. While her character is friendly and unassuming, that is not necessarily true for the ones that she meets. By the end of this book the stage seems to be set. I’m looking forward to learn where the story heads in the future books.
I received a copy of this book as a gift. This is my honest review.
So if you liked the Hunger Games you will like this book. The big difference is that it’s Faerie’s fighting and Gods give them powers. I am really looking forward to how these books are going to go. I feel this is going to be a great series. Selena has been living in a bubble her whole life and now she is fighting to save her life to the death. Let The Faerie Games Begin!! What will she do to survive and who will she trust to make it home. Only time will tell how far she will go to make it home.
