The beginning of an epic series of excellent books!
I can’t wait to start the next book. I love the characters. With Jordan’s descriptions they come alive right off the page.
While some didn’t like this book, I see it as the forerunner of The Game of Thrones. Yes, it’s a long series (which I haven’t finished), but this one introduced the majors players in a way that was inventive for the day.
Great read, fantastic series. Beware; once you read this book, you will be hooked.
It was an OK book, but the series went on forever. some of the plot lines reminded me of a couple other books.
Great book one of my favorite series ever
At times the choppy narrative and convoluted story line are hard to follow but stick with it. Jordan grows as a writer and story teller as the series continues. I heard somewhere that originally the series was supposed to be a trilogy and the story was just to large to neatly wrap up.
Having read, and thoroughly enjoyed, other author’s such as Tolkien and Terry Brooks I found that this story was just another spin on the same type of story as LOTR and the Shannara trilogy. Don’t get me wrong, the book was not bad, but only somewhat predictable at times. I probably won’t be picking up the next books in this series.
loved Robert, still do
This whole series is wonderful and keeps you coming back.
great
This story is a believable quest with interesting characters whose coming of age and maturity resonates on multiple levels. A great escape from our everyday world and interesting enough that I bought all 14 books in the series even though I had already read the series when it first came out
Great book
One of my favorite series but did get pretty monotonous in some of the later books and took so long between books that I would forget details of prior books by the time the next one came out
Excellent first book in a series! Unfortunately, it mostly goes down hill from here. After the third book in the Wheel Of Time series, it became quite obvious that Jordan was writing just to fill pages in a book. Descriptions and story back-fill that would normally take a paragraph or two now took several pages! And what should have been a four or five book series exploded out of control into what – 14 books?
By all means read this book, but reader beware if you decide to continue…
Great compelling read! Lauralea
Excellent fantasy
Loved this book and the entire series
Get ready for many hours of reading the entire series, because you just have to know how everyone’s stories end. Reading the prequel really helps you understand some of the relation ships and books 8 and nine are a little slow but worth it to get to the end.
My husband and I absolutely love this series. Robert Jordan is a master at creating worlds and characters that bring the reader in and make them forget the real world.
