An action-packed thriller from global bestseller Wilbur Smith“It takes one to recognise one. This was a man trained to live with and by violence. He was muscle, a soldier, in the jargon. I had hoped never to see this kind of barracuda cruising St Mary’s placid waters. It gave me a sick little slide in the guts to know that it had found me out again.” He left that life behind. But that life hasn’t … life hasn’t left him… Harry Fletcher lives a quiet life these days, running a tourist fishing boat from the quiet island of St Mary’s, off the South African coast. Then his next group arrives, with very specific instructions for Harry -instructions that suggest they know exactly who he is. Before he knows it, Harry has been swept back into a world of greed and violence, of men who will do anything to get their hands on the treasure under the sea, and of women who are too beautiful to trust. But when the Great Mogul diamond is the prize, all Harry knows is that he’ll do anything to get there first…

For starters, I read all the books of Wilbur Smith, except the Egyptian ones. They are full of adventure, historic realism and wonderful characters. Every book is a book on its own, but when you begin to love the characters, you want to read more of the series. At least I do. In The eye of the tiger Harry Fletcher has left the violent life he was trained for. But his past catches up with him, and he is swept back into a world where men do anything to get The Great Mogul diamond and women are too beautiful to trust. Unputdownable.
This was a Hemingwayesque thriller! A great read!
Have been reading Wilbur Smith for over 44 years!
Outstanding book!!
I love Wilbur Smith’s stories. They are told on a grand scale, like blockbuster movies. Great writer.
Enjoyed this book
read almost all of his books…a big fan!
Read it about a month ago it was a good book if you that kind
Fans Of Wilbur Smith will not be disappointed, wonderfully developed characters, plenty of action, interesting plot. The only downgrade is that the book could have used a map to help follow the story
Truly one of the best books I have ever read! Highly recommended!!
As in previous writings Smith blends short happenings, almost like stories in them selves, into his overall plot making easy reading. Often the overall story is disappointing but getting there ain’t so bad.
Wilbur Smith writes so you feel the air coming in from the ocean. He has that rare ability to make you feel the setting. His characters develop so well, you think you know them. He is an excellent storyteller and this is a good read.
pure Wilbur Smith
wilber smith best their is
Another amazing Wilbur Smith book.
I hadn’t read Wilbur smith before but I’ll be reading him again. I really liked the story line, the setting and all the characters, bad ones and good ones. Oh, I also learned to scuba dive and fight sharks. I enjoyed every page and that’s not always true of books I like.
Excellent story….Wilbur Smith does it again!
The usual exciting book about early southern East Africa. Wilbur Smith when he was at his best writing about early Africa.
Wilbur Smith is a great writer and his books are always fun to read. This one was not up to his normal standard but was still enjoyable. I got the impression he might have been trying to write this one in a hurry to meet some deadline as it did not have the depth of characters and story line that he usually has. Still a better read than a lot of authors best stuff, but just not his best effort.
This, like ALL Wilbur Smith’s books, is great reading.
