Facing His Nemesis
Told as a series of 10 stories, most of the previous tales really seem to stand on their own within a greater story arc involving the Agora Society. However, by the time you get to the last two, the interrelatedness becomes compelling and, although you would have a fine fable with just the last chapter, the integration of the whole is worth the effort to read the entire series, or at least stories nine and ten together. I had the benefit of listening to the author read his own words and enact them, using distinct voices for the different characters, with as much skill as a professional voice artist. This episode represents the conclusion and brings history and mystery together, tying off all the disparate threads one didn’t realize had been left hanging.

A good man is taxed almost beyond endurance while a vile man does his worst to vent his hatred upon him. No one can win this time, but justice can prevail even through unbearable sadness. Very well written!
An excellent, family-friendly mystery that can be read in less than a day. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
This is a great story in the Agora Society series and like the others it evokes the period and location it is set in beautifully (19th Century Boston) with all the associated mannerisms.
The central character, Carl Brooke (who is also the narrator) faces his old enemy Thomas Drake in this adventure, and there are all sorts of twists and turns to the story, before it reaches its dramatic conclusion.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, but have voluntarily written this review.
This Agora letter gives us the backstory of the villian, Thomas Drake. We also learn about Anne and what happened to her. I was riveted to this story. I really enjoyed it and am glad I read it. So many answers and a great backstory are within. This is my favorite of this series!
Another great read from Clay. Elements from past stories are tied in, but the book stands on its own as well. Ambiguity and misdirection are the hallmarks of great mysteries, and Clay marks up Carl’s halls (in this case it is the great outdoors) nicely. To say too much would give too much away. If you read this and do not like it, I promise I will be sad for you (in the I-won’t-know-about-it way). But, if you read this and do like it, I promise not to say I told you so.
Clay Boutwell brings a lovely told story told from the heart of a Husband, Carl, who lost his beloved wife, Anne. Some back history expands about the evil do’er. Set in a time setting when honor was sought after as the real character of a man…and Carl Brooke if ANYthing definitely met that criteria. A very honorable man. refreshing read as have been the previous books as well. HIGHLY recommend The Eye of Benu. Age appropriate for even young people. Clean writing and LOVELY story told from Carl’s “heart of hearts”.
This is a very nice addition to the Agora Mystery Series. It is a quick read and gives the reader some history about the characters in this story. It is very good. I enjoyed this very much. I voluntarily reviewed free ARC of this book.
