Special Agent Puller’s brother is the country’s most wanted criminal, but his conviction points to a cover-up–and a dangerous enemy bent on burying the truth in this #1 New York Times bestselling thriller. It’s a prison unlike any other. Military discipline rules. Its security systems are unmatched. None of its prisoners dream of escaping. They know it’s impossible…until now. John Puller’s … impossible…until now.
John Puller’s older brother, Robert, was convicted of treason. His inexplicable escape from prison makes him the most wanted criminal in the country. Some in the government believe that John Puller represents their best chance at capturing Robert alive, and so Puller must bring in his brother to face justice.
But Puller quickly discovers that his brother is pursued by others who don’t want him to survive. Puller is in turn pushed into an uneasy, fraught partnership with another agent, who may have an agenda of her own.
They dig more deeply into the case together, and Puller finds that not only are her allegiances unclear, but there are troubling details about his brother’s conviction…and someone out there doesn’t want the truth to ever come to light. As the nationwide manhunt for Robert grows more urgent, Puller’s masterful skills as an investigator and strengths as a fighter may not be enough to save his brother–or himself.

Well written, stretches believability a bit but its fiction, they are allowed some room. A very enjoyable and satisfying read.
The characters in this story are well drawn, not new in some respects and yet again new in others. The characters added to stories of “Junior” Puller are great characters, including his brother. The story line is tightly drawn but loosens as the story proceeds, broadening, then narrowing again. I won’t tell you the story, you’ll have to read it yourself to get that but it is set in our time, with commentary on some aspects of our times. The military training and character of the main man in this book is less emphasized than in the two others in which he appears that I have read recently. All in all the characters fit the story, the story fits the characters, it is interesting, so are they, it keeps you reading, loving it all. What more could you ask for to award five stars. The great American novel it is not, but it is fun, fast reading that you will enjoy.
My sister is the person I can thank for recommending David Baldacci’s books. I’ve read several of them and have never been disappointed. Not once. THE ESCAPE is no exception. It kept me on the edge of my seat page after page after page. And though I never laughed, not once, throughout the book, I cried (and cried!) at the end. I bet you will too! I highly recommend reading THE ESCAPE by David Baldacci.
Robert Puller has escaped from prison and there is an unidentified dead man in his cell. It may not be in his best interest, but there are some in the military ranks who believe that apprehending him alive is more likely with his brother on the case. John Puller is faced with his toughest case yet and his personal relationship with the felon only makes matters worse.
This book definitely saved my opinion of David Baldacci (The Puller series is my intro to his books). Although, I will say that the author still struggles with natural dialect at a couple of points. The Forgotten is full of action, suspense, and gives you a sense of “you can’t trust anyone” throughout. I have enjoyed John Puller’s character and like that Baldacci shows a softer side to him without losing his “kick buttedness”. Is that a word?

One of his best
A favorite author
David Baldacchi is one of my favorite authors. I’ll read anything he writes, anytime.
I really enjoy his John Puller character.
I’ve read them all
Another military mystery for John Puller to solve. This one mostly involving his brother who is in prison and the lengths he goes to prove his innocence. No the best Baldacci has written but good enough to keep you turning the pages.
So entertaining! Glad there are more John Puller adventures for me to experience!
Baldacci always writes great action-packed novels. Love reading absolutely ANYTHING he writes.
