Book 3 in The Cinderella Spinster Series
Sara Standish is on a mission to help the plight of children. She has had five unsuccessful seasons and is now ready to start the life she was meant to live. She is convinced that if you can teach poor children to read and do basic math that they can dramatically improve their future. She has helped write letters to Parliament to make them understand that changing the laws that apply to children working in mills will only help everyone. She cannot live on her own as a young lady of quality. She takes a position as a companion to one of the leading matrons of the Reformer movement. At her first visit to a mill, she meets the rudest most condescending man alive!
Cameron Fitzallen is a man who has lifted himself out of poverty with his ambition and intelligence. His journey from an orphan in a workhouse to the owner of his own mill has taught him what is important in life, pacifying a Lady so she can come to his mill and hand out candy and promises to the children is not worth his time. Cameron is also an inventor whose innovations have helped make the machines safer for his workers, especially the children. He also insists after the children leave the mill they go to the mill school to learn reading and math.
The more time that Sara is at the mill school with the children she realizes that she has misjudged Cameron. He cares for his workers and now she finds herself caring for him a great deal. When she realizes he feels the same she is willing to give up her place in Society to be with him. The only other time Cameron let himself love someone she died. He tells himself he is better off alone then heartbroken. Also, Cameron knows that if she marries him she can never go back to her family and friends. He will have to let her go to see if she is strong enough to take what she wants.
A beautiful love story with wonderful characters. I love Julia’s writing, her substance and style are a joy to read. I highly recommend this book for lovers of Historical Romance.
