Spy turned art restorer Gabriel Allon finds himself accused of murder in this New York Times bestseller from Daniel Silva. An Israeli spy by trade and art restorer by preference, Gabriel Allon arrives in Zurich to restore the work of an Old Master for a millionaire banker—and finds himself standing in blood and framed for the man’s murder. While trying to clear his name, Allon is swept into a … name, Allon is swept into a spiraling chain of events involving Nazi art theft, a decades-old suicide, and a dark and bloody trail of killings—some of them his own. This was a classic book of misdirection. I thought I had it figured out, but then Silva surprised me with certain characters’ actions. Let’s just say – don’t SKIP any of this. The book is very well crafted, from description of tradecraft, to action sequences – I really enjoyed the book. And yet, Gabriel Allon is hard not to pull for; I can’t help but like the Restorer. The title can be misleading, but makes sense in the end. The misdirection was my favorite part, but I won’t give too much away. The knowledge of settings throughout the story is evident. I highly recommend this novel, and also the next one in the Gabriel Allon series, The Confessor. Great read!
Silva is the best spy thriller writer I’ve ever read, though he’s a tad rough on his aging protaganist in some books. Check out Gabriel Allon.
Spell checker has gone nuts.
I read all of Daniel Silva’s books with Gabriel Alon. Great if you like spy novels.
No profanity.
A rich atmospheric thriller. Gabriel Allon must find the truth as to find who framed him for murder and evade an assassin he helped train.
I don’t usually read this genre, but the author does a great job of character development with an exciting storyline. There is some violence as would be expected, but it’s not overdone. The emphasis is on tradecraft with well researched and realistic scenarios. The author includes some of his sources as well for further reading if one is interested. I also like how the characters are being flushed out…you can picture them and see the camaraderie. I plan to read the next of the series.
Incredible thriller!!
One of my favorite authors. Always look forward to the next publication. One of today’s best fiction writers.
I love anything Daniel Silva writes.
Very much in keeping with the Gabriel Allon series. Mr. Silva keeps you turning the pages to find out where the next surprise twist will lead.
It is hard to go wrong buying a Silva book.
I love the Gabriel Allon series. Great charter development and interesting story lines. Action packed. And you learn some history along the way.
I was on needles and pins the entire time reading this amazing book.
Enjoy every moment.
Meh
A spy/assassin novel in the sometimes erratic Gabriel Allon series, this is one of the best recent entries. Silva has a good writing style and develops the character of Keller (oddly enough a name used for a totally different killer by another author) with three-dimensional depth. In many ways, Keller becomes the most interesting character Silva has added in years and he shows up again in later books.
Always enjoy a Daniel Silva book – wish he would write more often!
Art restorer, Gabriel Allon, who also works part-time for ‘The Office’, a semi-official Israeli intelligence agency, accepts an assignment from an anonymous Zurich banker. Arriving at his villa, he finds the man’s murdered body. He flees the crime scene, but is arrested as he tries to leave the country. The story is very suspenseful and held my interest. I had the audio book so I could keep listening to it while I did other things and wanted to listen to the next chapter.
Love all his books. Following the series of Gabriel Alons
In creating and credibly continuing the beloved characters and cast that include the likes of Gabriel Allon, Mr Silva has provided us with some of the best spy novels of the last decade. My only question is: why have none of these wonderful stories have made it to the silver screen?
This book has the same characters as previous books by this author, but puts them new situations that they have to work themselves out of. It makes for interesting reading.
Any of Silva’s novels starring Gabriel Allon, master art restorer and master spy, is a put-up-your feet turn-off-notifications-on-your-phone kind of book.
