Vydor is riding a wave of success, but now his ship, the Dragon Claw, is being sent to investigate a mysterious event deep within the Empire’s space. A secret research colony has fallen silent and the forces sent to investigate were never heard from again.
A new enemy has come to the Empire bringing with it dark powers that were abandoned long before the Empire was born. Powers that were … were thought to be legends and myths.
It’s up to Vydor to keep this force at bay and protect the Empire, but it may come at the cost of his faith and shake the foundations of the Empire itself.

This is a good young adult read. It has allusions to scripture that are hard to miss, if you know anything about scripture. Good action without going overboard with technical descriptions. The reader begans with some character introductions and development. Then near defeat as our group realizes their weaknesses. No overt sex or gore, but really good entertainment.
I loved the new twist on fantasy and magical powers. The characters evolved, although almost too quickly, but still enjoyable. The world the author created was very fun.
Good read, fast paced!
Too much fantasy.
Not what I expected but OK if you are into wizards
who wrote this slab of milk toast? truly the worst writing I’ve read in my life.
Loved it.
Great book.
The writing is a bit stilted. The situations are too contrived. It would be suitable for pre-teens.
I almost gave up on this book. If you accept that it is more fantasy than
Science fiction it is ok. Easy to read.
This book was entirely captivating, I couldn’t put it down
Did not care for this book.
Enjoying this entertaining series and seeing the characters and skills develop over time…
Meh. Overblown in too many ways. Stilted dialogue, lengthy sections where the characters have to explain the plot, and just too much overblown dialogue.
I made it halfway through, and they lost me when they jumped through a stargate into a wizard’s chamber and went into a way-too-long explanation of science is really magic. The author had pretty much lost me at that point anyway.
Needed more character development.
Though I am not a fan of first person novels, this book makes an exception. I fully enjoyed the immersive experience of the main character. Well done!
Entertaining sci-fi.
Really sets you up for a sequel.
Good reading with surprising plot twists.
amazing original series, combining scifi and magic in a unique way. Great characters, great story arks. The whole series is a fantastic read.
Great Science Fiction. Getting to read the rest of the series!
