Vydor is riding a wave of success, but now his ship, the Dragon Claw, is being sent to investigate a mysterious event deep within the Empire’s space. A secret research colony has fallen silent and the forces sent to investigate were never heard from again.
A new enemy has come to the Empire bringing with it dark powers that were abandoned long before the Empire was born. Powers that were … were thought to be legends and myths.
It’s up to Vydor to keep this force at bay and protect the Empire, but it may come at the cost of his faith and shake the foundations of the Empire itself.

Where are the tags for “juvenile” “wish fulfillment” “Mary Sue”?
With some series I’ll read the next book even if the writing isn’t particularly good, as long as I still care a little bit about the characters and want to find out what happens next. This is not one of those books. Pretty awful, really.
I very much enjoyed this book. It was very action packed and was hard to put down. I would have said it was an original story but in parts of it I felt like it was an episode of Stargate SG1.
Good story with the mixture of Science Fiction and Fantasy
Good read sci-fi mixed with fantasy def a page turner couldn’t put the book down.
Easy to read, with a good story line. I found the conversations very stiff and unrealistic.
Start of a decent space opera. I have enjoyed reading the series so far. Psi tools rather than techno-based but a good premis with a consistent universe.
Interesting premise but, it appears to have been written for a juvenile audience. I finished it. I have no interest in any further novels in the series.
While I found this to be a rather formulaic tale and thus somewhat predictable, I enjoyed it and will not hesitate to read more by this author.
good sci fiction book.
Original characters and story line. I swept through first and second book, and am hoping there’s more to come.
Okay, I do not usually care for ‘magic’, however, I am very impressed with how the sci-fi was combined with the ‘magic’. I plan on reading the sequels. Very enjoyable read.
Didn’t realize it was fantasy…
Excellent combination of hard sci-fi and paranormal
This book is slow going and unfocused. It needs a good editor and a more focused story line.
The writing and character development is a bit weak, but it’s a fun idea that kept me wondering what would happen next. I fear the series may run into the same problem E E Smith’s Lensman series has — the tension between the sides becomes a bit weakened as the plot develops.
