AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!“The End of Her will keep you guessing right up to the end . . . once you pick it up, you will not want to put it down.”—USA TodayThe new domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door and Someone We KnowA long-ago accident–and a visitor from out of the blue. . .Stephanie and Patrick are adjusting to life with their … from out of the blue. . .
Stephanie and Patrick are adjusting to life with their colicky twin girls. The babies are a handful, but even as Stephanie struggles with the disorientation of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she’s sure of: she has all she ever wanted.
Then Erica, a woman from Patrick’s past, appears and makes a disturbing accusation. Patrick had always said his first wife’s death was an accident, but now Erica claims it was murder.
Patrick insists he’s innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. Still, Erica knows things about Patrick–things that make Stephanie begin to question her husband. Stephanie isn’t sure what, or who, to believe. As Stephanie’s trust in Patrick begins to falter, Patrick stands to lose everything. Is Patrick telling the truth–is Erica the persuasive liar Patrick says she is? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?
How will it end?

So you’re sitting at home with your two twin babies when someone appears to tell you that your husband murdered his first wife. This guy you’ve been married to for years. Of course he didn’t do it. But did he? When those doubts start to creep in, is it you manufacturing something there? Is there more there? Or is there no there there? Fast paced read, lots of marital angst. Loved it.
This one was twisted in such a great way. The characters are deliciously unlikeable as they are in all of Lapena’s novels. I love it! Love it. And oh, the twists. I’m laughing thinking about them–in a good way.
Stephanie and Patrick are parents of two young colicky babies, a situation that has exhausted them both. Even so, they’re managing, and their marriage is secure—at least until Erica, a woman from Patrick’s past shows up with disturbing allegations regarding the death of Patrick’s first wife.
Shari Lapena is one of my auto-buy authors. I especially loved her novels, An Uninvited Guest and The Couple Next Door. I found this book slow to get off the ground, but the deeper Erica forced her way into Stephanie and Patrick’s lives, the stronger the story became. The second half is especially good.
Throughout, it was easy to sympathize with Stephanie and feel her confusion on whether to put her faith in her husband or a stranger with entirely selfish motivations. As the story develops the reader gets a clearer grasp of Erica’s character and her past. The disruption she causes between Stephanie and Patrick takes multiple twists and turns. Lapena keeps the main mystery wrapped tightly until the final stages of the book which brought an ending I didn’t expect. So…slower at the start than I would expect from Lapena, but it is worth sticking with.
Patrick and Stephanie are the sleep-deprived parents of colicky twin girls, and their lives are further complicated when Erica Voss, a former friend/lover of Patrick’s comes to town looking for money. Erica is a piece of work, or rather, a woman who would rather resort to blackmail than actually work 9-5.
There are as many twists and turns as POV shifts as Lapena skillfully takes us into the heads of Patrick, Stephanie, Patrick’s cheating boss, Niall, and his unforgiving wife, Nancy, and of course, Erica. A page turner with an ending that leaves the reader guessing. Loved it!
Another fantastic page-turner from Shari Lapena. Can’t wait for the next!
I have read all of Shari Lapena’s books since I devoured The Couple Next Door, and I enjoyed them! I was excited to get my hands on this one! This one focuses on the age old question….can you really trust the person you married? Or do they have other sides they don’t reveal to you? I felt sorry for Stephanie and her state of mind because of colicky girls, and then ERICA showed up, and I felt even worse for her. I have never hated an antagonist as much as I hated Erica and her conniving, blackmailing ways. Erica made me question Patrick as much as Stephanie and it made my mind spin trying to figure out who was telling the truth!
Although I enjoyed this book, I felt like it tended to be repetitive and the ending seemed rushed to me. I really wanted to love it because I adore Shari Lapena, but it fell a little flat and was just a like for me. The story is told in 3rd person with multi character point of views and short chapters. This is a domestic thriller like her other novels.
This was an addicting read! Stephanie and Patrick are living a cozy family life with their twin babies although they are frustrated because they both are colicky. One day, a woman from Patrick’s past appears. And Stephanie learns that there are secrets about Patrick’s past that she didn’t know. Secrets that will change both of their lives. This woman seems to be creating problems for other families as well. The suspense builds as everyone is worried and strange things begin to happen.
Grabbed my interest from the first chapter and kept me happily entertained throughout. A couple of unlikely events if you want to be picky but I found it an intriguing, escapist read.
A young couple is struggling with colicky twins when a woman intent on blackmailing them about the death of the husband’s first wife enters their life and turns it upside down.
A twisty turny plot.
I love Shari Lapena’s book. Once you start, you have to keep going because the mystery pulls you in so quickly. Stephanie is married with twins. Other than colicky babies, life seems to be good. An accident in her husband’s past and a woman change that in a heartbeat. So many secrets about her husband coming to light that can ruin her marriage and happy home. Can she trust the person she loves? Is this all a big mistake or something more? Without giving away too much, there are smaller stories that link the bigger picture here. I was pretty shocked at the ending, I didn’t see it coming! Another great story!
As soon as I thought I had this book figured out, Shari Lapena fooled me again. Secrets were held back so you thought the bad guy was one person, then the story twisted around and you think it’s someone else. Once again, I stayed up way too late to finish this book. Share Lapena always takes me on a roller coaster ride of twists, turns, and secrets. Awesome stuff!
This book was such a well written taunt psychological thriller. The characters were real and fleshed out well, and the storyline had me turning the pages quite quickly. I read this book in two sittings, I enjoyed it that much. I also loved the twist at the end.
I checked out this book from the library’s curbside, via the consortium, during the spamdemic, because I knew I would really like reading it. I have read all of Shari Lapena’s books so far and have given them all four or five stars. Okay, okay, so sometimes these books are KIND of “all the same.” But that’s why we like them. Because they’re so good. The suspense and awfulness are kind of like a car wreck you just have to peek at, in many ways. I liked it a lot. I read it quickly, and I’m glad I can return it for the next reader to enjoy. It was like a movie. It was a good little package of courtroom suspense and drama and motherhood woes mixed with treacherously dreadful murder-and-blackmail type things that make great nightmares.
An enjoyable twisty read which leaves you with a cliffhanger! Read it and find out what the cliffhanger is all about!
This is a domestic thriller that reads like an extremely twisted soap opera. It’s crazy, and a little absurd at times, but I was still glued to the pages!
Patrick was married to Lindsey, who died in a terrible accident, while Patrick was having an affair with her hot bestie, Erica….ugh, men! After Lindsey’s death, Patrick takes his insurance money and moves to NY for a fresh start, where he meets / marries Stephanie and they have twins. Then…Erica shows up in NY, spilling the beans about Patrick’s past, and blackmailing them!
Whew ! That’s only the beginning. There are many more surprises along the way, but you’ll have to read them for yourself!!
A portion of the book takes place in Colorado and I’m about 40 miles away from one of the mentioned towns. It’s always fun to read about familiar settings.
Thank you to Edelweiss, Shari Lapena and Pamela Dorman Books for this free digital ARC, in exchange for my honest opinion!

Another fantastic novel by one of my favorite authors. This may be her best yet! Loved it!
The Couple Next Door was my very first (and so far only) Shari Lapena novel so I jumped at the chance to do a buddy read of The End of Her and I am so glad I did! This is a domestic drama/suspense novel and even though it was relatively slow paced, I found myself glued to the pages unable to stop reading. I didn’t have much time, or I would have easily read this in one day. It is told from multiple different viewpoints and it definitely kept me guessing as to who was hiding something and who was being authentic.
The End of Her is also full of short chapters which makes the book go by even faster. I loved this since it really helped the slower pacing of the novel. I wasn’t completely surprised by all of the end which made me knock off a star, but I was so gripped by the story and there were so many other things I loved about it that it made this a solid four star read for me. I love Lapena’s writing style and the way her books suck me in from the beginning and never let me go, and that was just as true with The End of Her as it was with The Couple Next Door.
I ended up getting a little annoyed with Stephanie, and I didn’t find anyone all that likable, but I loved the premise of the book and almost completely loved the execution as well. The End of Her is a great one to go into mostly blind, but I recommend it to domestic drama lovers who don’t mind a slower pace and lots of viewpoints.

WOW! Where to start with this book?!
I honestly did not think that Patrick killed his wife on purpose, and was shocked to find out he did. There is something crazy going on with every single character. Lapena definitely keeps you guessing until the very last page (literally!)
I am very glad someone finally got rid of Erica, i could not stand her and was seething throughout the whole book!
This was a fast read that kept me guessing, but I feel that Shari Lapena’s writing could be improved. She writes in short choppy sentences, without much description. The storyline was busy, busier than necessary.
The book opens when a couple, having fought the night before, readies to go on a trip.
Fast forward 9-10 years, another couple is sleep deprived because their twin daughters have colic.
A woman from the husband’s past shows up and throws a wrench into their lives.
This is a novel of blackmail, much of which I didn’t think was necessary or believable.
Decent read, but not anything super exciting.

I had this book flagged on Amazon to order the first day it came out! I got started on The Couple Next Door, and since then I have been hooked on my Shari Lapena books! As great as The End of Her was, I’m upset I don’t have another Shari Lapena book to move on to. I guess that’s what you get when you speed read all of them when they get into your hands. As far as The End of Her, a review I saw on the back of the book summed it up really well as “another suburban paranoia”. I always try to predict the end when I’m reading through and never get it right! This one somewhat got left on a cliff hanger with some unanswered questions in regards to *SPOILER ALERT* Erica’s death. It really keeps you thinking. Another great read and I am hoping I can look forward to more!
