The Enchanted Life of Adam Hope is an unconventional and passionately romantic love story that is as breathtaking and wondrous as The Time Traveler’s Wife and The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.
During WWII, teenager Evelyn Roe is sent to manage the family farm in rural North Carolina, where she finds what she takes to be a badly burned soldier on their property. She rescues him, and it quickly becomes … She rescues him, and it quickly becomes clear he is not a man… and not one of us. The rescued body recovers at an unnatural speed, and just as fast, Evelyn and Adam fall deeply in love.
In The Enchanted Life of Adam Hope, Rhonda Riley reveals the exhilarating, terrifying mystery inherent in all relationships: No matter how deeply we love someone, and no matter how much we will sacrifice for them, we can only know them so well…

This story was original, engrossing, and a little heartbreaking. Well worth the read.
One of the most unique and memorable novels I’ve ever read.
Interesting read- kept my interest.
This book wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. If one enters into it hoping to eventually learn “the secret” of Adam’s origin you are going to be deeply disappointed. But it made me think about relationships, about who we are to those we love…and what they are to us, and how we may imagine mystery in them.
This is a very unique and strange story. I enjoyed reading the first half although it was unexpectedly sci-fi, however it did drag on for a bit. Still entertaining
Too sci-did for me.
I don’t recall reading anything quite like this novel. Characters are vividly drawn and even though the plot premise is unrealistic, it somehow becomes plausible. What if this could really happen? We don’t know everything about nature or possible visitors from another time and place.
That being said, I didn’t like the idea that I was being subtly …
Very unusual story. Lots of twists and unexpected turns. A little disturbing at the beginning. A surprise ending.
I loved this book. I was a bit surprised at the direction it took, but I did enjoy it very much. Great characters and interesting situations.
In the same genre as The Time Travelers Wife. However, I was surprised by the ending. I thought it was a little too neat. A little too fast for a resolution. Read it and decide for yourself.
It is a very unusual book and I couldn’t stop reading. Not your normal love story but certainly there is a love story in it. We read to take us away from the normal life we live and it will do that and keep you tied to reality in many ways.
An extraordinary read. The unbelievable becomes reality. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book I could not put down.
Pure pleasure to read.
Really unusual and interesting. Very original syory.
One of the best stories I have read in a long time, I was sorry to see it end. I loved the characters, I want more from the author.
Very creative with good character development. Some of the narration goes on too long, but I really enjoyed the book.
An incredible, otherworldly love story… reads with the urgency of a lifelong secret finally confessed.
Memorable book, really well written, intelligent, original. Nothing about it was trite. You know how most books are predictable to one degree or another but you read them anyway? Not a single part of this book was predictable. And even though one of the characters is humanlike but not human, it is the most human, most thought-provoking and tender …
I finished it, but not my kind of book.
Strange! Didn’t finish!
