Wren has never shied away from confronting her enemies. She’s marched into countless battles and delivered deadly blows, but finally being back home after winters away, she’s forced to contend with a different enemy altogether:Her dreadful stepmother and her two grating stepsisters.Haunted by memories of the war, Wren lives for the work her stepmother forces on her. In fact, she needs it to … she needs it to distract her from constant nightmares–nightmares that may warn of things to come.
Forced to make a choice between remaining the quiet, dutiful stepdaughter or reawakening the warrior inside her, Wren knows the wrong decision could equal the deaths of countless innocent lives–
–lives that once again fall upon her shoulders to protect, whether she wants to or not.

In book 2 you find Wren back at her home estate. It reads like Cinderella. Step Mother, 2 step sister’s etc. You know why Wren is putting up with them because of what she is looking for at the house, but you still feel for her she is a Captain. The hunting scene was filled with hints for things to come. The Hellhound helping her is a great continuation from the first section. The scene that follow are quite the page turner too. This are VERY short reads just remember that you will have to get the next books to continue the story.
Episode Two was as intense as Episode One. Lots of action with just enough backstory to make the reader crave more.
I don’t think I mentioned that it’s a retelling of a classic story. You don’t even know its one until episode 2 which is this one. I have to say I look forward to see how Acacia retells the story. Already its so much more fun that the original. Wren continues to be a strong female lead which I love.
I’d say this series will be good for 18+. I think I like that hellhound.
this book reminds me of cinderella with a twist. she not affraid to fight battles. only now she must go home to face her step mother and sisters. read to find out what happens.
Wren is on a mission and is willing to put up with her step family to find what she is looking for. This episode shows more of the Cinderella roots but really it’s so much more. Wren suffers from the aftermath of fighting in a war and welcomes the distraction of chores around her family home. She finds out that a former soldier has his own secrets and though interested she has her own problems. There is violence but no adult content.
Wren is back home after the defeat of the sorceress. Now she has to deal with an old enemy. Her stepmother and stepsisters. Instead of nightmares of the past, she now has nightmares of a possible future. Once again she may have to make decisions that could cost innocent lives.
With the war over Wren must decided what to do now, but when her father’s music box is found on her pillow she knows she must go home. She must find the key and the note says it’s where her heart lies. Even though it’s another hell, living in her own home with her step-mother and step-sisters. Putting up with them treating her as a servant. “If your thinking this could be a wildly different version of Cinderella, then you are thinking the same thing that I am. This is an amazing story about what a young woman does to find out more about her life, what it is about, finding new loves , friends, allies, and perhaps having the life that she wants.” I’m truly enjoying The Embers We Seek series and believe many others will also
This takes place after the war. She goes home after years. What awaits her is not surprising but she knows whats expected of her. Her Stepmother and stepsisters who are unkind to her. She doesnt complain too much because she’d rather avoid them and besides she’s home to look for something. Its not long when she finds Orcs in her home out for blood. What to do…save her home or her sorta family? Eh she does the right thing…unfortunately. 🙂 They now look to her now that their home is gone. We do see Alaric briefly and now things make sense there. Mad chemistry but he is a Lord but he’s more than that…its just not revealed yet. Enjoyed it!
Exciting and mysterious! A great episode that captured my attention and brought about new curious twists and turns I can’t wait to uncover.
