The first book in the Poppy McGuire Mystery Series!
Poppy McGuire has always been a curious soul, but it’s her life that’s usually the topic of conversation in the small town of Sunset Ridge. Somehow being a single woman with a coffee addiction and no boyfriend prospects is intensely interesting to her nosy neighbors. But now one of the town’s most important citizens has been found murdered, … found murdered, and everyone’s life is suspect.
What begins as a friendly wager with her old friend Officer Derek Hampton soon becomes far more for Poppy, and she turns to Alex Montero for help, but the enigmatic former Baltimore cop’s quiet way hides as many secrets as each suspect they encounter.
Everyone in Sunset Ridge has something to hide, but Poppy and Alex are determined to uncover the identity of the murderer. They just have to watch that they don’t become the next victims.

Not great but pretty good
I enjoyed getting to know Poppy. Looking forward to reading more.
A cozy mystery with a hint of romance and small town life.
A fun read.
I really enjoyed this book. I found the storyline totally believable and the characters very realistic. I think Poppy is a great investigator but she just has to trust her instincts more. I hope in future adventures she becomes more confident.
I didn’t figure out until the end who the culprit was
Really good book
This was an odd but fun mystery. I enjoyed it.
When just the words of a book and cause me to cry, it’s a good book. This was so well written and held my interest to the end.
I enjoyed the book and found it to be entertaining. I would not recommend this book for people bothered by sentences ending with a preposition. It was a bit distracting for me and I’m not that precise about grammar. It also made it difficult to believe that the main character had a journalism degree and graduated with honors. I think better editing would have made a difference.
An easy read. A nice twist.
I finished the book. It was meh and totally unrealistic.
Quick read, fun story!
I knew who the killer was right after Poppy questioned the neighbor. It was disappointing that it took her the rest of the book to figure it out. I didn’t like the town that seemed to think a woman had to be married to be anything. (Is there really any such town in the US?) If you want a very light read, go for it. I’d say it’s mildly entertaining.
Great story. Hope to read the rest of them!
Needs proofreading and editing. Mrs. Joseph Scanlon is married to James Scanlon? In the same paragraph even. Time line is off. Contradictions are rife. Eg. In one place ex-mayor usually has 4-5 drinks and a few pages later it’s unusual for him to drink that much. Huh?
Enjoyed thus 1st book in the series. Would like to read the follow up books.
Loved the writing, the plot, the characters, everything! This is my first time reading this author & I will definitely be continuing this series.
I enjoyed this story and plan to read other books by this author.
