I really enjoyed The Eidola Project – interesting characters and informative historical material written into an action-packed plot – it’s a compelling and enjoyable novel. I hope to see additional books in this series!
This was a great fun romp by a new author. Interesting concept and a few surprises. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Set in the late 19th century, The Eidola Project, the first novel in the series, is a team brought together to investigate the existence of the paranormal and to debunk the charlatans in the field. Professor William James is head of this group which includes Annabella, his secretary, Edgar, a physicist, Sarah, a medium, and Nigel, a very reluctant addition to this unique group. Called upon by Lenore Hutchinson to investigate her estate and rid it of its hauntings, the group will find themselves in dire circumstances, one in which they will need each other’s strengths to escape with their lives. I did enjoy the story, as well as the characters, especially Nigel and Sarah, but did find it disjointed at times. Still, I am looking forward to reading the next in the series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was my introduction to the horror genre, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Using varied paranormal investigators to check out a haunting provided an interesting context to explore supernatural events.
Eidola is an ancient Greek word for ghosts. In this exciting, sometimes ominous novel, The Eidola Project team forms in the late 1800’s to investigate ghosts, and that definition was just their starting point. They expanded their scope to include the presence of all things supernatural. Treat yourself to this super read that explores and reveals for your own observation an opportunity to immerse yourself in an adventure of paranormal events. You’ll find that this fictional team is strained by the challenges they encounter. Will they be able to save those terrified people who have called on them, desperate for help? Or when confronted, will they succomb to the dangers and temptations of the hunt?
It’s an unusual and fascinating group of stray personalities drawn together in this endeavor. Each reveals distinct flaws that have driven them from society’s norms. Rejected by those around them who have chosen more prescribed lifestyles, these individuals have both a passion and a respect for the paranormal. They slowly begin to find from within a strength, and some unique powers or skills they never realized before. They are up against grisly threats however, that the strongest person would run from. Although they don’t want help, they cannot take on this work as individuals. They need to learn how to work together as a team, and use their talents for their common purpose. But can they unite before they are defeated, or are they too busy fighting among themselves as sparks fly?
The critical scenes of other wordly events and creatures are all absorbing and draw the reader in with nerves taut and holding your breath. The suspense is compelling. The fated events manifest when least expected, and in extraordinary ways. The historical setting is well researched and presents some interesting dimensions and perilous challenges within the plot.
The award winning author, Robert Herold has been haunted over the years by an interest in the supernatural. Happily for readers he decided to write The Eidola Project based on an idea he’d had as a teenager. You can learn more about his works including the sequel at his website robertheroldauthor.com and if you’d like to hear from the author himself he’s interviewed on YouTube’s A Novel Talk with Robert Herold
This is the first time in reading this author. The story called to me as it was something in the lines I like to read. Another item I found interesting about this was it was based on true events. The time period doubled that. This was one that had the web to catch you in with the ghosts and haunting. Of course I also like the opposite of the spectrum of the fakers. I do like when reading accounts of Houdini exposing the like so this fit in my liking. The characters were good at having you forget you were in a tale. I so liked the unpredictability that went into this. If given opportunity would read this author again.
A thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable read. Well crafted characters and intriguing plot. Definitely recommend.
A small team of supernatural researchers specializing in scientific investigations, recruit a few extraordinary new members to complete a daunting mission. This group intends to explore an ongoing haunting and determine if there is a menacing ghostly presence or a paranormal fakery.
In Greek the word Eidola means ghosts. Robert Herold transforms this definition into a full blown venture by composing a period piece where science and the paranormal clash with an unsuspecting result occurring in the afterlife. Herold crafts this story well by blending physicists, mediums and scientists with a suspenseful storyline dealing danger of the unknown at every turn of the page. Having a continuous momentum of confronting true science and what would be deception, ultimately have consequences for those that have talents the rest of us don’t posses. The Eidola Project’s intriguing timeline, authentic haunting moments and unexpected conclusion make this an essential read.
On a final note, as you’re reading this book and unlocking all its secrets, beware the ectoplasm manifestation. It seems malevolent forces are at work.
One of the best things about the Eidola Project by Robert Herold is that there will be more books in this intelligent horror series. It is difficult to write in the paranormal, horror genre beyond slash and dash, but this author has nailed it! I didn’t want the book to be over, even with the great twist at the end. However, I found myself thinking about it and making connections long after it was over. You find that you can’t wait for the next one! The writer has a sparse style of writing, he says what needs to be said without a lot of fluff, which is greatly appreciated in this genre. This is my best find of the year! I voluntarily read and reviewed this book provided to me by Voracious Readers Only.
Wow! This is a cant out down kind of book. The history references were spot on and the supernatural part was amazing. Well developed characters and storyline that sucks you in from the beginning…and the ending was unpredictable and amazing. Highly recommend this to any history and paranormal buffs out there.
There are some things even science can’t explain yet.
The paranormal genre is something I read regularly. With that being said, I can’t remember the last time I read about characters who not only sought out scientific explanations for the bizarre things they experienced in haunted locations but tried to find a way to stop them using logic among other tools. While I can’t go into much detail about this part of the plot without giving away spoilers, I was quite happy with how these characters responded. They were immensely sensible!
I struggled to remember who all of the characters were in this book. Not only were dozens of them introduced, they were written about in ways that didn’t always make it immediately clear who was going to be important to the plot in the longterm and who might only be mentioned occasionally. As interested as I was in the storyline itself, this made it harder to stay engaged with what was going on than I would have like to be.
Some of the most interesting scenes were the ones that featured paranormal content. Mr. Herold did a great job of explaining what was happening in them, especially when it came to showing how the character who was able to see spirits dealt with her special ability. This was something that brought plenty of complications to her life, so I was glad to see how much attention was paid both to her ability and the dead people who tried to get her attention.
The Eidola Project should be read by anyone who is a fan of ghost stories.
This book has it all; a page turning plot, a diverse cast of characters and clear descriptive writing. I was transported to post civil war America as I watched the character’s struggles to overcome their own inner demons while fighting supernatural forces of evil. The author draws us into a world of ghosts, spirits, and mythical creatures that few see- until it’s too late.
