I have loved my best friend for eleven years.Eleven years of celebrations.Eleven years of victories and losses.Eleven years of inside jokes and shared smiles.Eleven years of helping him raise his daughter as a single father. He smiles at me and my world brightens. He ignores me and I forget how to function. He holds my hand and takes more of my heart. He leaves and time stops. We have both lost too … more of my heart.
He leaves and time stops.
We have both lost too much, but am I willing to risk the effects of falling again?

Fun & Heartwarming Friends-to-Lovers Romance!
Quite possibly one of the best friends-to-lovers romances I’ve read. The way their friendship started and the conditions surrounding it just had me falling so deep I basically handed my heart to this crew! The shocking part was that I could fall deeper after reading Lo & King’s story in The Weight of the Rain. But it happened, Summer & Kash completely stole my heart! It most definitely helped them that Mercedes was in that mix!
Summer had me enraged at times and I wanted to give Kash some shoves in the right direction. But ultimately this book shows as much of a natural progression from being best friends in the deepest sense possible….to realizing that you are the others EVERYTHING and most importantly realizing that it is exactly what you want!
Mariah Dietz had me in tears in more than one spot of this book. But the moment that I read the quote below, I realized that I have never had a book speak to me more than I did in that exact moment reading those exact words! Our lives sometimes get so busy and hectic that it’s way too easy to recognize what we are missing than realize what we are given.
“When something isn’t as spectacular as we hoped or we aren’t feeling as appreciated or loved as we want, it’s easy to see where people are lacking and what they are failing to provide us with. Unfortunately, once those things start becoming obvious, the things they strive to do for us all seem to diminish under a cloud of resentment.”
I NEEDED THESE WORDS MARIAH!!!!! AND I needed them TODAY! Almost 5 years after you hit publish on this book, your words made a difference! Never let anyone ever tell you that your words don’t mean something or that they help someone along the way!
Mariah is one of those authors that I think everyone needs to read. Every story from her I get swept away with and although this is book 2, you could read it as a standalone but then you would be missing out on one of my other top reads – The Weight of Rain.
Summer and Kash have been best friends and business associates for years. But when Summer decides that she just can’t wait around anymore for Kash to open his eyes to what their relationship could be – heartache follows for both.
With Mariah’s books, I feel as if I am living the story instead of just reading about someone else’s life. You feel every emotion, every pull and I just get lost in her writing. If you haven’t read a book by Mariah, you need to add her to your TBR right now.
I loved the first one and was already intrigued with Summer and Kash; and I am so happy we got their story ‘cuz I just love them together.
Sometimes, even when something is under your nose, there needs to happen something to make you see it. To love someone for so long and they just can’t see what is truly there; it’s hard. It makes Summer question everything in her life, To make her see what she has accomplished in her 30 years. Will they find their way to each other? After 11 years of hoping, will they have that one true love? ….
I truly enjoyed reading their story. A solid 5 star read for me!
I think my heart was in my throat throughout this entire book…the angst, the frustration, the overall feeling of helplessness, of wanting these 2 people to just finally open up to each other, it all caused me such anxiety!
Summer and Kash are friends, and have been friends for a long time. They work together, Summer has helped raise his daughter, they are family. But the entire time Summer has been hiding her true feelings from Kash- she’s been in love with him since the moment they met.
You can tell there is a deep love between the 2, not just on Summers end. But for whatever reason neither has acted on it in all these years. And this caused me to want to reach into the book and knock some sense into them! My goodness, these are two incredibly stubborn characters who for all their shared history have a major issue with communication.
At some point you just have to wonder if enough is enough, and is it time to throw in the towel? Summer is faced with some tough decisions, ones that could change the whole dynamic of her realtionship with not only Kash, but his daughter and all their friends.
I really love the family that Ms. Deitz has created in this book. I haven’t read The Weight of Rain, where Kash and Summer are first introduced, and while I don’t feel that I was necessarily missing out on anything, I think it would be helpful to read it first. And I definitely plan to go back and read it now.
