Camden Seaver had it easy – a loving family, plenty of money, and the freedom to follow his dreams while his older brother, Sebastian, took charge of the family business. But when a tragic plane crash killed his parents, all the responsibilities he never wanted landed firmly on his shoulders. Now saddled with his crazy, grief-stricken brother and his dad’s multimillion dollar company, Cam doesn’t … doesn’t trust in dreams anymore. He’s forgotten what “easy” feels like.
FBI Agent Kendrick “Cort” Cortland learned the hard way that he couldn’t depend on anyone but himself. Before joining the FBI, the one constant in his life was his foster brother, Damon – and then Damon disappeared. Now, Cort is determined to find his brother and to bring down the man responsible for ruining Damon’s life, Sebastian Seaver. He’s got nothing left to lose.
When Cort’s investigation leads him to Seaver Tech…and Camden Seaver…what started as a quest for revenge and a one-night deception quickly turns into far more than either man bargained for. But how can either man trust in something that seems so easy? As long-held secrets are revealed, the attraction between Cam and Cort becomes combustible – an undeniable love that will either make or destroy them. Will Cam and Cort let their conflicting loyalties drive them apart? Or will they decide that sometimes love is the easy way?

If you like action-adventure romance novels, you’ll love May Archer’s The Way Home series. The Easy way is the intro, and it does a great job of setting the stage without seeming incomplete. The characters are vivid and easy to love, the plot is well thought-out and intriguing, and the sex…well, let’s just say it’s hot.
If you found this because of the Love in O’Leary series, it’s a different kind of book but it’s just as good so dive in!
This was a little slow and hard for me to get into at first, but once it picked up I was all in. I love Cam! All his insecurities make him freaking adorable to me! I can’t wait to read book two, and even though he’s a jerk I kinda hope that Drew gets a book too!
Trust. Such an elusive thing. So very fragile. And once broken, can it ever be restored? Yet it’s absolutely essential for any relationship of any kind. Kendrick “Cort” Cortland grew up in foster homes, one after another. Trust is something he’s never truly known. The one person he could count on, his foster brother, Damon, is dead. Worse, Damon’s reputation, his good name, has been destroyed by one man, Sebastian Seaver, a man hell bent on revenge. When Cort starts receiving mysterious packages and information from an unknown source, he suspects Damon isn’t dead at all. But how can that be? He was the pilot of a plane that crashed. There were no survivors. As an FBI agent, Cort knows how to bend the rules so he starts his own investigation. All information points to the surviving Seavers as the culprits. But just how accurate is the information? Can he believe it? He feels sure it’s coming from Damon but there’s no real proof of that. And his abrupt suspension from the FBI loses him the resources he was counting on to take the Seavers down. He’ll now have to trust himself because he’s on his own. Camden “Cam” Seaver is one of the wealthiest men in Boston. But money can’t buy happiness. It certainly won’t bring people back from the dead. Seaver Tech is the most successful tech company around. But its success means little to Cam. His parents are dead. His older brother has checked out, is barely existing. It falls to Cam to hold things together while trying to keep himself from shattering. He puts one foot in front of the other, holding his emotions in check, wearing his mask, living an empty, meaningless life. Just how much longer can Cam go on? When Cort enters Cam’s life in the most unexpected of ways, neither man is prepared for the consequences. The instant, intense chemistry, the easy friendship and camaraderie. It’s as if they’ve known each other forever. This can’t be real, can it? Cort’s on a mission. He’s not prepared for this reaction to Cam. And while Cam’s never felt anything like this before, he knows chemistry doesn’t equal trust. But one night, just one night together. That can be enough, right? But can anything this intense be satisfied by a one-night stand? As betrayal rears its ugly head, Cam’s hopes of something real, and Cort’s need to find the truth are dashed. Events spiral out of control. Nothing is certain. Is Damon alive? If so, where is he? Why won’t he contact Cort directly? Are Cort’s beliefs about the Seavers right? Who else would have motive, an agenda? Trust is the one thing in very short supply. But Cort’s mission, Cam’s need to lay his demons to rest, finding the answers they all need? The only key to any of this is trust. Without that, there’s no hope. In the end, can they find and hold that trust? Or will everyone and everything they both hold dear be lost?
May Archer is the pen name for Maisy Archer. I’ve long been a fan of Ms. Archer. This is her first book under this pseudonym, and to say it’s awesome is an understatement of massive proportions. The incredible character development is beyond impressive. The breathtakingly accurate descriptions of locations and life in Boston and the Caribbean islands are spot on. But what truly impressed me most, and made me fall in love with this story, is the relationship between Cort and Cam. The incredible depth and range of emotion made me laugh, cry, scream with frustration, and shout with genuine joy. These characters are real. I became so involved in their lives that I was captivated from beginning to end. I truly don’t have the words to describe just how invested I was in this story. The ending came far too soon, and I sincerely hope we’ll be seeing more of Cam, Cort, and their extended families in the future. Kudos, May Archer! Job very well done!
One final note. Please be an informed reader and consumer! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
I loved this one, characters, plot, and resolutions, and I am delighted that there will be a sequel, and with who’s stories it is. It is a treat to find an author whose style feels made for my brain. 🙂
Audiobook Review:
I’ll admit The Easy Way proved to be fairly different than what I expected going in. I’ve enjoyed this author’s works, like the narrator, and really like suspense driven romances so I thought this would be a win in a big way. While The Easy Way had plenty of good going for it- large doses of heat, good flow, interesting characters, and an intriguing storyline, it took me a long while to get into the story.
I think the characters came off a little cheesy at first, something which waned for a while, then reappeared a bit at the end. I liked Cort and Cam in general terms, but they both played to their role and they felt a little too scripted rather than relatable, “real” men. Despite these two having overwhelming physical chemistry, I thought things moved blazingly fast and I didn’t get much of the steady emotional development and push/pull that I prefer. Insta-love always throws me off, and that was very much the baseline for The Easy Way, and frankly it left me rolling my eyes a bit.
All that said, I did find the storyline intriguing, and even when it had its cheesy moments, I was invested in the outcome and still find myself wondering about the secondary characters. The writing was steady with enjoyable banter between characters and, though rushed, a good amount of character and relationship development. For the most part, I enjoyed the narrator’s performance as well. Though his dramatized delivery of the sex scenes made me cringe sometimes, his voice and rhythm makes for a good, easy listen.
Overall, I’d say The Easy Way had its ups and downs but would be a good bet for many listeners/readers. The good storyline, solid characters, and upbeat dialogue was dampened a bit by insta-love and dramatized reactions, but I’d recommend this title to people who like suspense but aren’t looking for a lot of angst along the way.
My review of the audiobook:
Story – 3 stars
Narration – 4 stars
Overall – 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4
This was an entertaining story, but I kept being pulled out of the story by the things that Cort did that made me think he must not have been a very good FBI agent. I don’t think I would have been as forgiving of him as quickly as Cam was. I also didn’t always like Cam’s choices and actions. But, overall, I did find the story interesting.
The narrator did a very good job. I especially liked his portrayal of Cort.
* AUDIOBOOK REVIEW *
Good entertainment
This was a good story that had feelings, suspense and action, I liked it.
No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
Good dialogues
Characters is well described and developed in to realistic personalities
Narrator:
Clear pronunciation and read with feelings
4 stars overall
The Easy Way is the first book in The Way Home series by May Archer. It is a contemporary m/m romance with suspense and a bit drama. Camden and Cort are great characters and I enjoyed their story.
4.5 stars
Heat Level: 3,75
Narration: 4.5
Not what I expected…
I love that I was surprised! I really enjoyed this story of revenge and working on the edge of the law, as Cort tries to avenge his brother but happens to fall in love along the way, with the person he least expected.
I liked the thrill and intricacies of the whole story and I LOVED that the characters were (mostly) honest with each other once feelings started being felt. I liked that they talked to each other and decided to make a go of it even if Cort hadn’t yet told Cam his original intentions. Add in some tense danger and (somewhat predictable) betrayal it was a great story with great characters. I liked many of the secondary characters just as much and really look forward to their stories throughout this series.
A great read!

Four and a half stars.
I enjoyed this. There is good flow, an interesting romance and a nicely suspenseful storyline.
Cort and Cam complement each other and come together with raw passion and easily felt genuine feelings.
The other characters are supportive to the storyline and main characters. I look forward to more by this author.
This is the first MM book by this author and it is very well done. I hope there will be more.
I love MM books because of the different dynamic that exists between two men. There is just another sort of a relationship then in a MF book. The saying ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ fits The characters in this book. Cam and Cort both have their prejudice, but there is also an instant connection and sparks fly. Let me tell you that this book is very hot. I will never look at a stairwell the same again.
This book is fast paced, funny, has well rounded and layered characters, full of action and is steamy.
The Easy Way by May Archer
This is Camden “Cam” Seaver and FBI Agent Kendrick “Cort” Cortland’s story.
Man, what a read! The story grabbed my attention from the beginning to the end. The passion, chemistry, and love between Cam and Cort was explosive. This story had a great combination of romance and intrigue with turns you might not expect.
This was my first May Archer book to read and I look forward to reading another book by this author.
FYI, contains mature content. This is a MM romance. I read through Kindle Unlimited.
