The introduction is what sold me–the daughter said she and her mother are “re-writing” historical romances for ALL readers, and this was titled “clean and sweet” in the suggested reading box. I enjoyed the character development, I loved the historical information on castles, I was happy with the plot twists and information about jewelry and those family-ties and traditions. It was a very satisfying read.
I like the characters and the fact the girl had a career and gift and didn’t totally drop them for her man. I liked the man coming to the understanding and caring what his wife needed and I liked the pranks. I would have liked even more pranks.
loved it
I read the first five of series. Stopped with this last one. Enjoyed them all.
Really liked the historic flavor of England’s Restoration and a gifted female jeweler. And loved that she got the nobleman in the end!
This one was very sweet! Colin and Amethyst are the cutest!
I love reading a good book, and I loved reading this book! It was good all the way through!
One of the best books I’ve read recently.
Good story.
A good book.
Such a fun book. I have both versions and it is very interesting to see how the scenes flow. It took some work to have the story continue to tell itself without any major jarring gaps and questions.
My compliments to you both.
This gentle telling of a first-love tale is filled with touching moments, a few practical jokes, and a wealth of fascinating historical detail.
Written by mother-daughter team Lauren Royal and Devon Royal, “The Earl’s Unsuitable Bride” is the first book of the Chase Brides series, a “sweet and clean” historical romance series that begins in the 1600s.
Amethyst “Amy” Goldsmith is the only child of a merchant jeweler. Had she been born male, there would be no question of her future ownership of Goldsmith & Sons, the family business passed down through generations. But as a female, what is hers will become the property of her husband — a role that may soon be filled by her father’s apprentice, a young man Amy cannot abide.
When the Great Fire sweeps through London, it alters the course of Amy’s life and brings her into direct contact with the handsome Colin Chase, Earl of Greystone.
Colin is everything Amy’s intended is not: brave, kind, passionate. The attraction between them is instant and heart-deep, but they are from two different worlds. Bestowed an earldom by King Charles at an early age, Colin must marry only for money in order to save his beloved estate. And Amy longs to carry on her family business and create beautiful jewelry. Each fears there is no future for them being together.
This tender story is chock-full of fabulous tidbits. From the weaving in of children’s rhymes and toys to the love knots on a wedding dress that become keepsakes, it is a story filled with wonderful details of the period. And the Chase siblings — Colin, Jason, and twins Kendra and Ford — are a fun (and prank loving) family.
Favorite moments: Amy and Colin’s first meeting in her father’s shop … Colin giving Amy a tour of the Greystone estate …Colin and Amy dancing at Whitehall Palace (just lovely; I was totally transported there) … and the Author’s Note, which is fantastic.
A great story. The characters were wonderful.
This was a good read!!!
Love getting lost in the period, this book makes it easy to do.
I enjoyed the novelty of both this story and its characters. You rooted for them, believed their hang-ups and inner dialogue, and enjoyed their tale. While I’m aware of the great fire that occurred at that time, I hadn’t read a novel that included it in its plot and it fit into this plot perfectly.
Captivating
Kept me guessing and had a few surprises that made it more interesting.
I enjoyed reading it. The characters were real and likeable. A wonderful happy ever after book.
An enjoyable romantic story
