Oliver York returns from war to find his father dead, his finances in arrears, and himself the new Earl of Carlisle. If he doesn’t marry an heiress—and fast!—he and his tenants are going to be pitching tents down by the Thames. He definitely shouldn’t be trading kisses with a penniless debutante… no matter how captivating she is! Miss Grace Halton is in England just long enough to satisfy the … the terms of her dowry. But a marriage of convenience isn’t as easy as she’d hoped. Back in America, her ailing mother needs medicine only Grace’s dowry can afford. Which means the dashing earl she can’t get out of her mind is the one man she can’t let into her heart.

This is the second of the “series” that I have read. I found them both fun and entertaining.
A war hero returns to find his father dead and the estate in ruins. Now he can’t marry until he rebuilds his fortune, except he and a woman who is broke get caught kissing in a private room. So marriage is forced on them. Ciaos ensues! Sick mother in America, tenant roofs falling in,,no money to pay servants and all the furniture sold among others! …
Oliver returns from war to find he has inherited his father’s title but that he is practically bankrupt. It is therefore inconvenient that he feels drawn to a young American, who is being ostracised by the ton and who needs her dowry (which is only a fraction of what is need to restore the Earldom anyway) to rescue her mother.

A Wonderful Book with Wonderful Characters.
Oliver York & Grace Halton’s Story was Absolutely Wonderful & Romantic.
The only thing that through me for a loop was when Oliver thought the Phrase:
“Shite on a shingle”
I Loved the Grandmother who was a Wench in the Story up until the end. I was happy to hear her change her attitude.
This was a good, fast read. Both characters are very likeable and engaging. They made me root for them and their happily ever after.
I am loving this series! If you haven’t tried her books, do so now! Such thoughtful characters who don’t fall into the stereotypes.
Helping each other and surprise, romance and love to boot! Enjoyed the reading.
Book 2 in Complete Dukes of War
Unique twist on the marry-for-money trope!
Oliver and Grace could not be more perfectly suited for each other, yet each one has very unselfish reasons for needing to marry for money. Right from the start we’re rooting for these two to find a way to each other without sacrificing their responsibilities. How they get there is a unique story, …
This book reminds me of the story line of the “Gift of the Magi”. I love books that make me have emotion and this one doesn’t fail. Two people needing wealthy spouses, but find one another.
I really enjoyed this historical romance with a touch of humor. I voluntarily chose to review this and I’ve given it a 4.5* rating. This is not for the under 18 readers. I really adored the hero who tried not to helplessly fall in love with the heroine. Sometimes when you try to do the right thing, things will work out, just maybe not the way you …
