Oliver York returns from war to find his father dead, his finances in arrears, and himself the new Earl of Carlisle. If he doesn’t marry an heiress—and fast!—he and his tenants are going to be pitching tents down by the Thames. He definitely shouldn’t be trading kisses with a penniless debutante… no matter how captivating she is! Miss Grace Halton is in England just long enough to satisfy the … the terms of her dowry. But a marriage of convenience isn’t as easy as she’d hoped. Back in America, her ailing mother needs medicine only Grace’s dowry can afford. Which means the dashing earl she can’t get out of her mind is the one man she can’t let into her heart.

Very fast paced, will read again
I had a bit more trouble falling for the main characters in this story than I did in Book #1 in this series, but I definitely grew to love them as the story progressed. Oliver becomes the Earl of Carlisle after the death of this father, who has left the estate in shambles and Oliver with no choice but to marry an heiress. Grace Halton needs to …
Enough with the mother already. Lived the Grandfather, goodness prevails!
A great read and a delightfully distracting, sensitive well written book. I really enjoyed this one. Well done indeed.
loved this book
I had been reading a lot of contemporary romances and really enjoyed reading this book as a change of pace. Oliver was a returned hero whose life was changed by the loss of his leg and by the financial mess his father had left him. He takes pity on the American who was rejected by the ton. They really liked each other but faced obstacles. I loved …
I liked the characters in this book. It was interesting to see how an American was viewed
Wonderfully refreshing variation on the American girl in England theme. Ridley creates terrific characters.
Unable to put the book down!!!
A nice change for this Regency plot. I liked the characters.
My favorite genre is historical romance and I read 5 or more books a week. I greatly enjoy most of them, but anytime I read one by Erica Ridley, I know I’m in for a treat. I think her characters are so well defined that you really lose yourself in her books. This book is a good example of her writing style. At one point in the story, I found …
Characters work great, and a good story line. A good read.
I have enjoyed all the books I have read in this series, looking forward to the rest.
pleasant style
Couldn’t put this book down!
I have read the whole series up to this point. I have enjoyed every one of them.
It had a good plot line and you really liked the main characters. Some of the side characters were not fleshed out at all, but in general an entertaining romance.
A good “beach read.”
Very enjoyable.
So so book. Characters were ok . The grandparents were a trip.
