When Eilian Sorrell, a promising archaeologist and the eldest son of the Earl of Dorset, loses his arm in a dirigible crash, he fears he will face a bleak future among London’s aristocracy. On a quest for normalcy, Lord Sorrell commissions a prosthetic arm but finds the craftsman is not what he seems.
After the death of her brother, Hadley Fenice takes over his prosthesis business but knows it … knows it will be an uphill battle as women are discouraged from doing man’s work. In return for building Lord Sorrell an automaton arm, he offers her a chance at freedom by following him to the Negev Desert under the guise of a man.
But what lies beneath the desert is more precious than potshards or bones. As they venture deeper, they discover a society where the path of life is not governed by gain but by passion. When imperialistic invaders come in search of a new colony to pillage, Eilian and Hadley are forced to defend their fleeting glimpse of paradise.

It was sweet and cute. I felt like it just scatched the surface of the characters and needed to go a little deeper for me to truely connect.
So entertaining I read the next book also and am already started on book number three. That’s about as good a recommendation as I can give.
Good strong female character.
A little different twist on a Cinderella story.
very slow development, lots of descriptions
Good reading
I liked the plot, but the story went too technical on mechanical issues & it was just to far fetched in finding a whole underground civilization . Plus for a man who was so well travelled, the character seemed very niieve.
An original story; however romance is sadly lacking between the hero and heroine. There is no chemistry or depth to their relationship. The book was easy to read but I lost interest half way though the book. More suited for young adults. I dislike cliffhangers, and the story here ended abruptly. Worst still, the next book on the series does not pick it up; I think the 3rd one does, but I won”t be reading that one.
