Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Just steamy enough. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.

Charlotte Trethow is the Belle of Season, no doubt, but although she receives the attention of many gentlemen, she worries about her older sister, known as a spinster, Lizbeth.
Lizbeth has declared herself a spinster for one reason only: she believes in marriages for love and refuses to be treated by any man as a mere object.
In addition to helping her father with family mine work, she runs away from reality through her books.
But don’t think she likes romantic novels like other ladies; She prefers books that make her think and question.
So it is a great sacrifice for her to stay in those balls whose conversations orbit about weather or ego.
She manages to escape from the main room to the library. Glad to see on the host’s shelf so many interesting titles. But when she goes to the chair in front of the fireplace she finds that she is not alone; Someone else had the same idea, but in this case he was a gentleman.
Roddam was in town to accompany his cousin, Drake, Duke of Annick.
Used to spending a long time alone reading, he was not a person that likes balls and soirees. But he had a very strong sense of family, and Drake was his best friend.
He is surprised to see a lady sneaking off the dance floor to hide in a library. Just like him, and the biggest surprise is when Miss Trethow proves fascinatingly intelligent and versed in so many authors.
Their brief conversation warms him, and after the lady leaves Roddam decides he wants to know more about her.
Coincidentally, Drake and Charlotte start courting, giving Roddam and Lizzie a chance to have more time together.
Now she knew that he was not simply Mr Roddam, but the Earl of Roddam, and owned a castle in Scotland, something linked to King Arthur’s story.
The couple cross valleys of torment, desire, admiration and fury. One time they are more than in love, and the next they fight like dogs and cats.
However, the passion is there, latent.
And against all odds, they get married.
But it is after the wedding that the real secrets insist on being revealed.
Sebastian (Roddam) is a man of many mysteries (and some fears).
His love for Lizzie is unquestionable, but his tormented past is grave and dangerous.
Sebastian’s greatest fear was that Lizzie would leave him; Lizzie’s biggest fear was that Sebastian wouldn’t let her in…
This is the author’s first book I read.
The beginning – the first scene – captivated me right away. I simply needed to know how the story would end.
And as the reading progressed, I realized that the author likes to bring out the real flaws of each character.
No one is perfect here – even if they’re beautiful and/or rich.
The flaws are many, some are even unpleasant, but it makes the story much more real.
Some scenes may have been too long – or even not so necessary, in my opinion as editor – but they gave voice to the feelings of the characters.
It’s an interesting series (yes, I’ll read the following books) and, for sure, I’ll pay attention to the author’s upcoming releases.

You know that ghost is me. Review of The Earl and the Enchantress.
Bookworm Lisbeth Tethow escapes to the library during a debutante ball only to meet a gentleman similarly hiding from the ball. Lisbeth learns he is none other than the brooding reclusive Earl of Roddam; Sabastian Lancaster. He challenges Lisbeth about a book they both read. Lisbeth takes the challenge and they discuss various topics. Lisbeth flees when she realizes they are alone in the library; together. Lol. Which is unheard of and scandalous. Also, she doesn’t want to spoil her sister finding a good man to marry because of a scandal. However, the truth is Lisbeth is very smitten with the brooding earl and She is too overwhelmed to handle her newfound feelings for Sebastian. Lisbeth and Sabastian meet each other once again only to become closer and find they are each other’s intellectual equal. Unfortunately, Sebastian is suffering from the ghosts from his past and sabotages the growing relationship with Lisbeth before it can grow into something deeper than friendship. This book was great. I loved it. Sebastian reminded me of Rochester from”Jane Eyre.”lol. Like Rochester, Sebastian was in love with Jane but was haunted by his past ghosts. I loved how intelligent and literate the book is. The dialogue is clever and insightful. The characters are intriguing and Interesting. I loved the slow-burn between Sebastian and Lisbeth. I get so tired of the insta-love romances. The slow burn makes it more satisfying and beautiful when the couple finally gets together. The story was well-written and held my interest to the end. This is the first time I’ve read this author and will not be my last. I will be looking for more of her books on AMAZON. lol. I received a complimentary free copy from Voracious readers only in exchange for an honest review.
The Earl of Rodham first met Liza Trethow in the library at a ball that neither wanted to be at. They broke the rules when they stayed there. There was an attraction between them but Sebastion was rude. She finally left. He was impressed with her intelligence and caring. He was very reclusive, he had a secret that created so much guilt. Neither one of them for their own reasons never wanted to marry. They met again, at Charlotte’s and Lizabeth’s house when the duke( his cousin) decided to court the younger sister. Liz did not like the duke and thought she was making a mistake but it was not her life. Sebastion was very taken with her and couldn’t stop thinking of her and how much he admired her. She thought he might just treat her as an equal and love her. He kept pulling away as if she didn’t matter. They went on this for a while and then she realized she loved him but she did not know how he felt about her. Mixed into all this was her Aunt Hazel, Auntie came up with the strangest things. Liz loved her very much. She was playing matchmaker with both girls and only wanted the best for them. The Duke was a dandy and seemed very shallow, while Charlotte acted like a snob.
It held your attention and the characters were wonderful. There is a lot of sadness between Liz and Sebastion and his pain from his secret. The author did a wonderful job of weaving a complex novel into a tale of complexities and still keeping your attention. Her knowledge of the time and the ton’s dictates was awe-inspiring. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series.
I received this ARC from book Sirens and voluntarily reviewed it.
She loves to read and plans on becoming a companion. He is too busy for distractions and reads
Their lives become intertwined when other family members get involved. Its a hilarious bit of fun with intrigue and love all wrapped up and into this book. I actually plan to reread it because it is very well written and the character development is excellent.
real rating 4.5
The Earl and The Enchantress tell the story of Lizbeth and Sebastian. Two intellectual souls that want to go against social expectations of marriage, until they meet. For the first time, their beliefs towards marriage may tremble as they get to know each other. But will that attraction be enough to put fears aside?
This story was so lovely to read! I loved the way Paullett Golden wrote the story and how the romance developed between the characters. Their romance was so sweet. I especially loved how we get to see a bit of their happily-ever-after. There were sex scenes which I’m not too into. Except for that, I loved this story and looking forward to reading book two in this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review.
A heartfelt, angsty read.
This is about a tortured soul and an independent spirit. Sebastian and Lizbeth are both individuals who exist on the fringe of high society. Sebastian is haunted by a tragic past. Lizbeth is a woman with a sharp mind and yearns for freedom from societal constraints. They find kindred spirits within each other.
I like that Lizbeth was portrayed as a strong woman. She knew her mind and needs. She fears that commitment to a man would negate her as an individual. Sebastian was similar to the Beast in the fairytale Beauty And The Beast in many ways. There are similarities but they are depicted in a fresh way. They were both strongly written characters. My one issue with them was they were both in their heads a lot. I understand it was integral to the plot and it did work. However it was frustrating at times as there was so much miscommunication.
The plot was intricate and very descriptive. I especially enjoyed the description of the castle, I could picture what it looked like. The pace dragged just a little, but it flowed well. Overall it was a well written book, it could have been stronger at times, but ultimately an interesting, heartfelt read. This book is for those who enjoy a slow burn, angsty read with ultimately a very satisfying happily ever after. I received an ARC of this book from Book Sirens, this is my honest opinion.
I enjoy Regency romances and I really really enjoyed this one. The writing is not stuffy and the story is actually fast paced. I loved the characters, especially the main ones. Unfortunately, I didn’t like Lizbeth’s, female MC, sister or her husband. So I think I’m not gonna read the next book, that tells their story. Lizbeth and Sebastian’s story was amazing and really emotional!!
I received an ARC from BookSirens and am voulntarily leaving my review.
This is one blissfully beautiful book! You’ll be absolutely enchanted and won’t want to set this aside. Sebastian is a hero that will make your heart hurt and he’ll entertain and enthrall you as well. His past is painfully traumatic and he has to overcome it in order to have his happily ever after. His secrets are something that he can’t seem to let go of. Lizbeth is Sebastian’s perfect match. Her wit and intelligence isn’t something she hides and they rival his own abilities. She has the biggest of hearts and though she’s been hurt she dares to believe in second chances, redemption and true love. The family members are intriguing and I can’t wait to learn more about their stories as this series progresses. I absolutely adore this lovely author. The banter she creates is pure perfection! This was filled with both tender and hilarious moments and ones that grabbed onto my heart. I even shed a few tears while reading. This unforgettable tale has latched onto my heart and I don’t want it to let go. I throughly enjoyed this and can’t wait to visit the family in the next book!
A historical novel that takes you to the turbulent England.
Lizbeth Trethow doesn’t want to get married and then be put away and treated like someone who doesn’t matter. She is not going to let her life be led by a man who doesn’t see her as an equal. At the age of 25 she is still single and wants to dedicate her life as a companion, not planning to ever get married. However, her sister wants to climb the social ladder and marry the highest in rank.
During a ball in a London house, she escapes to the library where she meets a man. She gets into a conversation with him, disseminates books and feels appreciated when he asks her for her opinions on a variety of subjects. In the weeks that followed, she met him a few more times. Where she is first impressed by him, she notices that he also puts her in doubt because of his character and attitude. Sometimes he attracts her, other times he repels her. Even though she’s a little bit in love, she wonders if he’s a man she could marry if he can’t afford to trust her.
Sebastiaan Roddam has been through a lot in his 31 years. As a child, he suffered frequent assaults from his father. A trauma from his youth makes him think badly about himself and thereby ensures that happiness is not for him. He is in love with Lizbeth but cannot put himself there to chase her. When their ways separate, both to their own homes in other parts of England, he can’t forget her. He starts a correspondence with her and looks forward to meeting her at his cousin, now her brother-in-law, Duke Annick. Despite his own doubts, he is courting her
A great well-described book. I found the fact that the story is told from two points of view refreshing. Usually a novel is brought from the view of life by the female lead. Now you are taken to the sometimes depressed view of the world through Sebastian’s eyes, but also the happiness he finds in Lizbeth. His inability to see himself as others see him really added value to this book. Highly recommended

The Earl and The Enchantress, by Paullett Golden. Paullett shows her talent as a writer. Her writing provides the readers imagination to get lost in a book.
Gather around people, I have a secret to tell you. Paullett Golden has done it again. What? You say. Well, let me tell you about this little story called, The Earl and The Enchantress.
Sit back and enjoy the story. Grab tissue boxes, you may need them. Oh wow! This was a story that pulled at my heart strings. Sebastian and Lizbeth’s romance is a love story for all those hopeless romantics out there.
They first meet by accident, by hiding out in the library. Not together, but unknowingly of the other party hiding out as well. As days go by, the two seek out each other at balls. They can’t seem to get over this enchanting spell that one has for the other. Then one day our illustrious two, share an interesting conversation on the balcony.
Here these two begin to bare their souls to each other. Over time and their fulfillment of lust and exquisite pleasure, the couple becomes trapped by demons from the past. Horrible memories resurface to were Sebastian is unable to shake them. Lizbeth sees the man that she vowed never to marry, never to love break down in front of her. As the strong, independent woman and loving wife.
Lizbeth searches by hell and high water, to find the cure that ales the man that she swore in front of God to protect. Sebastian beats himself down over how his horrible father has treated him, and being deprived the last chance of seeing his loving mother. He calls himself a murder. He tries to convince Lizbeth that she should leave him, and continue her life at a safe distance. Lizbeth, says oh no you don’t!
Not after you swept me off my feet. You’re not getting rid of me that easily. This book has so much drama, passion, love and forgiveness. As a reader, you get lost into the world, where Sebastian takes his journey of cleansing his soul. In the end, I really started worrying about Sebastian, because we all know, when a man has lost the love of his life and feels that he has nothing.
The ending is never good. If you are curious to know what secret breaks Sebastian and how his lioness breaths new life into him. Read, The Earl and The Enchantress. I recommend this book, with two snaps and a puppy love bark. Until next time my fellow readers… read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Golden and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sebastian Lancaster, Earl of Roddam, is a man full of dark secrets and loathing for himself. He carries childhood scars and guilt into his adult life and has pretty much become a recluse. It is only when he meets Ms. Lizbeth Trethow at his cousin’s wedding that he begins to feel a glimmer of hope that his life could be different. Lizbeth is captivated by Sebastian especially with when she gets a glimpse of his witty banter. The two are flirty in London, but then Sebastian once again retreats to his remote castle. Lizbeth is devastated, but when Sebastian begins to write to her, she believes she finally can convince him he’s worthy of love.
This story was a unique take on romance although I thought Sebastian constantly berating himself that he didn’t deserve Lizbeth’s love got a little old. The author does a good job of teasing out the horrific details of Sebastian’s childhood and there is a good twist at the end. I love when I find a new author and I’m off to read the next book in the series and find out Charlotte and Drake are getting on with each other.
I voluntarily read a copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
Literary parley.
This book had smart literary references and two well read leads. Lizbeth is a miss, intent on being a spinster and future ladies companion and dodging her family’s machinations.
Sebastian, the Earl of Roddam, is happy to be Mr. Roddam to her Miss Trethow. He’s looking at an affair with her with no intentions to marry. He’s got a tortured past and a deadly secret.
Once they meet, their paths keep crossing and their now related through marriage.
Snappy dialogue and a secret.
A lovely book set in the English Georgian period which I have to admit I was not at all familiar with so it was nice to experience it through the words of the author. I really liked Lizbeth and Sebastian and the slower pace of their love story. I feel that this was more indicative of a normal courtship in that time period. I also liked how the author handled the secret that Sebastian was carrying and how loving Lizbeth was with him about it. We get a hint of the story about Charlotte, the sister to Lizbeth and Drake who is the cousin to Sebastian, in this book and their story is next in the series which I have already picked up to read. This author is new to me and I am so glad that I discovered her books!

After a few recent books that left me struggling to finish them, the first few pages made me think this book would disappoint me too. I was pleasantly surprised that the characters and storyline turned out to be so engaging! I was hooked in the first chapter!
The main characters, Sebastian and Lisbeth, are well thought out and I loved how they interacted and grew together. The secondary characters are interesting enough that I immediately purchased the second book in the series! I highly recommend this book. It’s a well written historical romance and i couldn’t put it down.
This delightful read had a good storyline and nice characters that kept my attention throughout the entire book!
London 1790
“Shouldn’t you be in the ballroom hunting your prey?” As Lizbeth escaped to the library at a ball and did not realize there was a man in the room with her! So the first meeting goes with Roddam and what a meeting it was! He was the first man she could actually discuss literature with and even though she declared she was a determined spinster, he wanted to see her again.
Wow I have to say this story grabbed me from the beginning to see what would happen and it was a wonderful journey!
Sebastian Lancaster, Earl of Roddam was the cousin to a Duke. When Lizbeth and her sister Charlotte attend a ball, she is introduced to him formally. An Earl? Well she still enjoyed his company more than any man she had met. But his cousin the Duke was interested in her sister.
This is this first book I have read by this author and I am so glad to have discovered her writing! The characters were well developed and the writing flowed smoothly. Sebastian is haunted by his past and it is a mystery I could not wait to find out.
Follow this couple as they wind there way to a happy ever after and enjoy the ride!
A lengthy, thorough, and well written book. A joy to read. While three times the length of many books I read, this one didn’t feel a bit longer as the time just sailed by as I was pulled along in the story. Although it took some hours, I just couldn’t put this book down. It was extremely well developed and had phenomenal characters and wonderful ebbs and flows in its storyline. I cannot wait to see what comes next in this series and what this author comes up with in general!!

This historical romance doesn’t have silly simpering females looking for a title. It doesn’t have heaving bodices or conniving exes. It does have a FMC with a brain who isn’t afraid to remain “on the shelf” because of it. She loves books and discussions and running through the surf on the beach barefoot *gasp*. She won’t settle for the loveless marriage that is expected my the bene ton. If she can’t have love, she’ll stay a spinster.
It does have a brooding hunk who is haunted by his past. Who believes he is unworthy of love, so because of this isn’t looking for a wife. When the two meet, it is as friends and two minds to discuss theology. Despite what either thinks, desires for the others company as purely platonic soon turns to more. Can either of them put aside their past? Could there be a future of love together. It will leave you with a smile.

What a wonderful couple. Lizabeth is contented to never marry if she can’t find someone to love her unconditionally and to be part of her life. Not living apart as so many couples do. She is resolved to become a ladies companion and have control over her life and her money. But then she meets Sebastian, the Earl of Roddam. Sabastian has lived a sad life full of heartache and pain, and doesn’t believe he is capable or due love in his life. But these two bond over literature and their unconventionality. Now Lizabeth just has to show Sebastian he is worthy of love. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
