Conrad Saint-Clair, Earl of Licheford, may have started a rebellion against the king, but he is powerless against the woman he loved and lost. The Order of the Broken Blade finally has the support it needs to succeed, to curb King John’s outrageous behavior, or so Conrad hopes. They have waited all winter for the king to respond to their demands. With their rebellion on the cusp of success—or … the cusp of success—or utter failure—the last thing on Conrad’s mind is romance. Which is why he is completely blindsided when the only woman he’s ever loved, his friend’s sister, shows up on his doorstep.
Years ago, Cait Kennaugh was brutally attacked by a king’s man at the Tournament of the North. Her brother Terric and three other young men banded together to save her.
Conrad, then a handsome earl’s son, wielded the sword that killed her attacker.
A bond formed between the boys that day, one that culminated in their rebellious order, but it wasn’t the only connection forged by the traumatic experience. Cait and Conrad began corresponding, unbeknownst to her brother, opening their hearts to each other in their letters—until Cait stopped writing.
Fear drove Cait from the man she loves, and she’s desperate to reclaim him.
But will the earl risk opening his heart to her again, while his rebellion hangs in the balance?
WARNING: Conrad and Cait’s second chance at love story will melt your heat. If you have a weakness for second chance romance, proceed with caution.

This is an excellent story that finishes an awesome series. The group of men in the series: Lance Wayland, the Blacksmith; Guy Lavallais, the Mercenary; Terric Kennaugh, the Scot; and Conrad Saint-Clair, form a bond after saving Cait Kennaugh at an early age. Their bond formed the Order of the Broken Blade. The Order fights for a better England.
The Earl’s plot flows smoothly to complete the series. All the characters were well-developed and the love between Conrad and Cait had to survive several setbacks. I loved everything about the series and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Terrific Conclusion to the Broken Blade Series!!
The characters come full circle. Conrad Saint-Clair, Earl of Licheford who started the rebellion against the king and was the savior of Cait Kennaugh many years ago meets back up with her brother Terric and the other men who bonded over that early event which originally brought them together.
Crucial support is withdrawn, and the Order is on a razor’s edge between success and ruin.
Relationships, both political and personal, are key to this fabulous conclusion. Strong heroes and equally powerful heroines come together in this final chapter of this series which I highly recommend!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
Wow, what a finish to the Order of the Broken Blade series! The time has finally come for the order to put all their plans into action and start the rebellion against King John if he doesn’t meet their demands. I had heard of the Magna Carta but didn’t really know the story behind it so it was very interesting to learn how it came about.
This 4th and final book in the series is Conrad and Cait’s story. They have loved each other since that fateful day when Conrad killed the man who was attacking her and the Order of the Broken Blade was born. Distance and fear have kept them apart but finally, Cait is ready to face Conrad and fight for his love. Romance and adventure is a big part of this story and add to that, the planning of a rebellion, and you’ve got a story that will keep you glued to the pages from start to finish.
I will miss reading about Conrad, Guy, Lance and Terric but this author has certainly given us a series worth reading all over again. I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The Earl by Cecelia Mecca is the 4th and final installment of The Order of the Broken Blade series. Can be read all by itself but highly highly reccomend you read the others in the series.
Conner is the founding member of the order and he risks it all over Cait Kennaugh. Sister of Terric another member of the order. Cait was attacked and almost raped it was Conner who rescued her. They began a secret relationship through writing. Cait eventually stopped writing due to guilt. Do they find a way to make it work through everything? You definitely have to read to find out!
This is another perfect ending to another amazingly written series by Cecelia. I’ve read all of her books and she truely is a amazing story teller. I loved all the angst and history in this story. Bravo and Congrate Cecelia. Looking forward to what is to come!
This last book of the series may well be my favorite. Mystery, intrigue, treachery, and the battle they have been waiting for so long. I received an ARC of this book. Loved this series!
Conrad saved Cait from being attached when she was young and when she went back home they kept in touch by writing each other. Conrad fell for her instantly and looked forward to her letters but then Cait stopped writing to him so he tried to move on with his life. When Cait’s mother decides she needs to get married Cait gets up the nerve to see go Condrad and see if their connection still exist. Conrad is busy leading a rebellion against the King and finally has everything in place to attact. He has his work cut out for him between dealing with his feelings for Cait and overthrowing the King.
This is the last book of ‘The Order of the Broken Blade’ and it is was fantastic ending to this series. I loved reading about the history of this time. All four books in this series were great and I look forward to the next series.
I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
One forgets when sitting in a history class, that real men and women were responsible for all the changes that have taken place in society throughout the ages, whether it be opposing an ignoble King, the abolition of slavery, or allowing women to vote. This well-written novel brings to the fore the effort it took and the sacrifices made to win the necessary support to bring about change in the lead-up to the signing of the Magna Carta. The plot encompasses both adventure and romance but also brings enlightenment and understanding of an era that is buried in the mists of time. An attack on Cait Kennaugh resulted in the four young men who came to her defense making a binding oath that followed them through to adulthood. Conrad, Earl of Licheford fell in love that day and has never been able to forget Cait, just she has never been able to forget Conrad or get over the fact that she was partially responsible for the events that took place. Cait finally shores up the courage to go south with her brother, determined to face Conrad and tell him how she feels. Once they come face to face, it becomes evident to all that Conrad and Cait have a history and explanations are necessary. I have enjoyed all the characters in this series, and The Earl brings a wonderful conclusion to the saga, I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The Earl by Cecelia Mecca is book 4 in the Order of the Broken Blade Series. This is the story of Cait Kennaugh and Conrad Saint Clair, Earl of Licheford. I have read (and Loved!) the previous books which added to my enjoyment and understanding of this one. But with that said, I did feel you could make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Some years ago Cait was being attacked which lead Conrad to step in to save her. This lead him to her brothers where they started an Order of the Broken Blade to rebel against King John. Cait and Conrad started corresponding which lead to their feelings to grow so much more than their attractions. Cait was traumatized by her attack which ended up causing her to end her writing to Conrad. Conrad now is Cait’s brother Terric’s best friend and part of the Order of the Broken Blade which they are nearing to finishing. Cait and Conrad meet again with both wonder about the other feelings. There is a lot going on with the rebellion and them working out their feelings.
This has been such a great series! I of course am in love with Ms. Mecca’s writing….she is one of my go to authors!
Conrad Saint-Clair, Earl of Licheford is a leading member of the Order of the Broken Blade. They have been organizing a rebellion against King John. They are almost at the final stage of making him agree to a list of demands that will one day be known as the Magna Carta.
Cait Kennaugh has not left her home in years until recently. The order that her brother is part of are finalising their plans and she has invited herself along. There is one man in particular that she needs to see, to try and explain why she stopped writing to him.
We have wonderful characters that need to resolve things once and for all.
A vicious attack many years before started something that changes the course of history.
This is the final book if the series and must be read after the others.
A very enjoyable conclusion to a great series.
Back to the beginning, with Cait and Conrad who originally drew the four men who formed the Order of the Blade together. Meeting at the Tournament of the North many years past, Cait, who was Terric’s sister had been saved from being raped, by Conrad, Terric, Lance and Guy, although it was Conrad who had dealt the killing blow to her attacker. The four men had formed a bond not to be broken called the Order of the Broken Blade who were determined to dethrone King John or make him be fair to his subjects. Cait and Conrad had secretly written to each other and formed a strong attachment, until Cait had stopped writing due to feeling she was not good enough for him.
Now Cait insists on going with her brother for their meeting and to see Conrad again. Hopefully bring their connection back together because she never stopped loving him.
This is a powerful story and I loved every single word. Cecelia Mecca brings this time in history alive and although fiction, she makes it real, as she has done since her very first story that I read. As in the end of any of her series, I am sorry for these wonderful heros and heroines to go. But the very best part, is they will live on forever and I can revisit them anytime I would like! Ten stars***
I just loved all of the characters of the Broken Blade. This is the story of Conrad and Cait and the final stand against the King of England. Cait has been in love with Conrad since he and her brothers saved her. Though they corresponded several years Cait all of a sudden stopped writing to Conrad. He never expected to see her again. But when her brother goes to Conrad, Cait insists on going along to try to win Conrad back and explain her silence. Though Conrad still loves her he does not make it easy. But Cait will surprise him and he can’t resist. Great ending. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.

This is the fourth & finale of the series & what a series it’s been. It could be read on its own but seriously read the previous three books to fully appreciate it. Conrad & Cait had been attracted to each other years ago & after the attack had poured their hearts out in their letters until Cait’s guilt made her stop writing. I’ve loved Conrad throughout the series & absolutely adored how his softer side was shown. Cait had also grown in confidence over the years, together they were a formidable force. The pace of the book was good I found it started slowly but the pace & tension increased until there was the final signing of the Magna Carta. A lovely mix of fact of fiction had me totally engrossed.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I have mixed emotions. The Earl marks the end of the Order of the Broken Blade and that makes me sad. But I think this was my favorite of the 4 book series – of course I have probably said that after finishing each book! I especially liked that the second chance comes from a different place than I’m used to. That was entertaining. Cecelia Mecca really does her research and you can tell in her writing. I feel like I’m getting an education along with my entertainment. She includes a special chapter at the end that I particularly found enlightening and just goes to show the extent of her research. In sort, I loved it and I’m sure you will too.
