The Dying Hour introduces Jason Wade, a rookie crime reporter with The Seattle Mirror, a loner who grew up in the shadow of a brewery in one of the city’s blue-collar neighborhoods. At The Seattle Mirror, he is competing for the single full-time job being offered through the paper’s intense intern program. But unlike the program’s other young reporters, who attended big name schools and worked at … at other big metro dailies, Wade put himself through community college, and lacked the same experience.
Wade struggles with his haunting past as he pursues the story of Karen Harding, a college student whose car was found abandoned on a lonely stretch of highway in the Pacific Northwest. How could this beloved young woman with the altruistic nature simply vanish?
Wade battles mounting odds and cut-throat competition to unearth the truth behind Karen Harding’s disturbing case. Her disappearance is a story he cannot give up, never realizing the toll it could exact from him. The Dying Hour is a bone-chilling, mesmerizing page-turner that introduces readers to an all-too-human young hero who journeys into the darkest regions of the human heart to confront a nightmare.
The International Thriller Writers (ITW), selected The Dying Hour as a finalist for a Thriller Award for Best Paperback Original, 2006.

The protagonist was likeable and it was a very interesting police-and-reporter procedural mystery, but the crimes seemed overly gruesome for my taste.
Another great Rick Mofina book!!
this was the first book I read from this author and it was really good. I was rooting for rookie police reporter Jason Wade all the way! I definitely recommend this book and have already read more from Rick Mofina
I loved Mofina’s “Jason” series and enjoyed the other two books in the series tremendously. “But “The Dying Hour” was a little too demonic for me. Keep reprising Jason, Mr. Mofina!
If you can tolerate blood and guts. and like suspense, you will enjoy this book. I found the finish too unbelievable, but the remainder was quite good and carried me right along on the adventure.
I really enjoyed this book!
Cover to cover, story telling at its best!
Great read. Will definitely read more from this author.
Great read
Another great book by Mofina. I couldn’t put this book down. Really twisted end.
a fascinating who-done-it. I couldn’t put it down!!!
I was compelled to read page after page. The character development brings the reader into the story. The ending was a bit of a surprise as I thought I knew who did it and I was wrong. I am going to read the additional books in the series.
interesting
I enjoyed the book & want to read more of this author’s works.
Rick Mofina’s books hook you from the first page. Whenever I find a new (to me) book of his I stop reading whatever I have going at the time and dive into his book. I always stay up reading much later than usual, and while I can’t put it down I don’t want it to end. Read anything at all by him and you’ll agree. Also he’s consistent – each and every book is as good as the last. Love him!
One of the best books I’ve read. A young reporter who is bond to solve his story even though it costs him his job. He deals with police in several cities, coworkers who don’t want him to succeed, the FBI, a woman who is kidnapped, an alcoholic Father, a breakup with his girlfriend. This was intense, also felt as if you were there pushing him to solve this story. You connect with the characters right off.
Another big plus, NO typing errors or grammar mistakes., no overuse of foul language and no explicit sex scenes.
I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a fast paced, well written, realistic mystery.
Too dark and twisted for me. The explicit details of the murder turned me off completely. Could not finish the book.
This is the second book by Mr. Mofina that I’ve read – and this one was just as riveting as the other! TOTALLY couldn’t out it down till it was over! Gonna keep an eye out for others from this author!
One of my favourite authors.
Enjoyed it
