The Dying Hour introduces Jason Wade, a rookie crime reporter with The Seattle Mirror, a loner who grew up in the shadow of a brewery in one of the city’s blue-collar neighborhoods. At The Seattle Mirror, he is competing for the single full-time job being offered through the paper’s intense intern program. But unlike the program’s other young reporters, who attended big name schools and worked at … at other big metro dailies, Wade put himself through community college, and lacked the same experience.
Wade struggles with his haunting past as he pursues the story of Karen Harding, a college student whose car was found abandoned on a lonely stretch of highway in the Pacific Northwest. How could this beloved young woman with the altruistic nature simply vanish?
Wade battles mounting odds and cut-throat competition to unearth the truth behind Karen Harding’s disturbing case. Her disappearance is a story he cannot give up, never realizing the toll it could exact from him. The Dying Hour is a bone-chilling, mesmerizing page-turner that introduces readers to an all-too-human young hero who journeys into the darkest regions of the human heart to confront a nightmare.
The International Thriller Writers (ITW), selected The Dying Hour as a finalist for a Thriller Award for Best Paperback Original, 2006.

Loved it. Will read more from this author.
Great Author
Story line was good…. much too graphic. Would not recommend
Murders too descriptive.
This book holds you till the end. You can not put it down. Great ending
Very enjoyable. Keeps you rooting for the underdog.
Great book. Hard to put down.
Well done book about a monster who derives his actions from practices during the inquisition and it’s ISIS like practices. A blot on European history but long ago and now punished. Step by small step toward resolution but never boring.
Really like the Jason Wade character – (not to be mistaken for the singer with the band “Lifehouse”). I’m going to order the other books featuring this character.
This book keeps you guessing till the very end. The book is well written well thought out. If you love mystery/who did it books, you will love this one!
Very enjoyable, kept you turning the pages. Another winner from Rick Mofina.
Could not finish this book.
Second book read by this author.
Very nice pace, kept me wanting more
I would highly recommend
Like all of Mofina’s books, a lot of time spent on setting the scene – people, environment, etc. But, a fascinating tale of two serial killers – one active and one dormant – acting out their anger at women by recreating the Inquisition. The killers were uncovered and thwarted by a rookie reporter; highly improbable, but still a fun read.
Read in a couple of sittings – good story with believable characters in realistic settings. It could have happened this way! THANK goodness it didn’t!!!!
Molina’s extensive experience comes through clearly as he includes properly the functions and responsibilities of multiple law enforcement agencies. And on top of that, writes damn good stories.
Douglas Snure
Engaging story and characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Always enjoy books by Rick Mofina. Keeps you in suspense. Loved it.
Enjoyed the book, hated the villian
Like all of Mofina’s books, this has plenty of tension and plot twists. He knows how to drive a story to a satisfying conclusion.
