The Dying Hour introduces Jason Wade, a rookie crime reporter with The Seattle Mirror, a loner who grew up in the shadow of a brewery in one of the city’s blue-collar neighborhoods. At The Seattle Mirror, he is competing for the single full-time job being offered through the paper’s intense intern program. But unlike the program’s other young reporters, who attended big name schools and worked at … at other big metro dailies, Wade put himself through community college, and lacked the same experience.
Wade struggles with his haunting past as he pursues the story of Karen Harding, a college student whose car was found abandoned on a lonely stretch of highway in the Pacific Northwest. How could this beloved young woman with the altruistic nature simply vanish?
Wade battles mounting odds and cut-throat competition to unearth the truth behind Karen Harding’s disturbing case. Her disappearance is a story he cannot give up, never realizing the toll it could exact from him. The Dying Hour is a bone-chilling, mesmerizing page-turner that introduces readers to an all-too-human young hero who journeys into the darkest regions of the human heart to confront a nightmare.
The International Thriller Writers (ITW), selected The Dying Hour as a finalist for a Thriller Award for Best Paperback Original, 2006.

I love all of his books.
Great story about underdog. Did not expect the ending. Love when that happens.
Rick Mofina is one of my all time favorite authors His books are really fast paced and action packed and always have a great ending. Once you start this book, you won’t be able to put it down – as in all his books! If you’re looking for a real thriller, this is it.
Great book!! Fast paced.
Having lived in the region covering the key aspects of the storyline, the author was accurate with locations. He could have added some ‘flavoring’ to the main character’s travels by referencing the aroma of hops, mint, and fruit as on drives along I-82.
Good story, good characters, good mystery, good ending! Some ugly passages which I skipped.
I’ve never read a bad Mofina book.
Great plot twist at the end.
This author is always very entertaining and easy to read books.
This book was awesome. I couldn’t put it down.
Excellent story from a great writer.
Excellent writer but not my cup of tea. I like cosy mysteries. Jason and father are delightful characters.
Always perfection from Rick Mofina. Check out Be Mine and Every Fear.
It kept me intrigued. As the end neared, I thought I had it figured out…..nope.
I’ve read this twice! Even knowing the end, I could hardly put it down!
First time in a long time I could not put a book down…thoroughly enjoyed this character.
Read everything he writes
Suspenseful and engrossing. Finished it in one sitting.
This is a well-written, gripping, clean mystery that will keep you turning the pages until the very end. Highly recommended.
Great read
