Deborah would gladly spend her life saving others. It could be though that the one she wants to save the most is one that is beyond her reach.Through the war, Deborah found her purpose. With the abbey she was raised in opened up to the wounded, she found no shortage of need for her calming smile, quick mind, and skill at tending to the sick and injured. She couldn’t imagine that with the war … imagine that with the war winding down, her life wouldn’t just continue in the abbey as she gets ready to take her vows and become a nun.
Before this happens though, someone from the wealthy Duke of Harksbury’s estate calls for someone from the abbey to tend to him. Having returned from the war himself in need of healing, Lord Edward Abernathy needs help, but Deborah will soon find out that his wounds go much deeper than the physical harm he endured.
Deborah just might be the only one who can heal him body and soul, but even she might not be enough.

One of Rose’s best.
Returning scarrd physically and emotionally from the was Lord Abernathy’s sister send a letter to the abbey desperately seeking someone to help her brother! Deborah, a young orphan raised at the abbey and desperate to take her vows is sent. She has helped heal many soldiers but none come close toe the Duke. She is strong and determined to help this angry lost soul no matter what. This book was genuine, heartfelt, warm and had very realistic characters. Rose Pearson nails the emotions all the characters felt. From the depth of despair and anger a disfigured body can cause psychologically and physically! She really captured the struggles everyone has and that even those who appear happy are struggling with their own inner self. I really enjoyed this book. I love Rose Pearson! Every book she writes is original which guide caring characters! She looks into the depth of the soul to see what is truly inside a person/ character. They are each individual and not cookie cutter characters! I highly this book and any all books by this author!

A delightful story of healing and discovery.
Well developed plot and characters that had me cheering for them as they fought for freedom from self doubt. It left me glad I read the book!
I look forward to reading more from this author and this series.
Deborah has been raised by nuns and has a talent for nursing people back to health. She is tasked with helping Lord Abernathy heal in body an spirit. This is a quiet story that has the reader rooting for the two main characters to connect with each other.
Good story of patience and perseverance
Thoroughly enjoyed the characters as well as the virtue of loving beyond what we c on the outside.
Love finds its way through darkness.
Disappointing covers it. Grace couldn’t get through a morning without commenting on making her vows to become a nun. Just became too much.
This book was a joy to read. The main character has a very giving nature and evidences great patience in times of stress. Each character reforms and changes throughout the story. The ending, of course is predictable, but in this story you wouldn’t want any other ending. Very enjoyable experience.
So, So many soldiers were killed or maimed from the Napoleonic wars and certainly
Survivors suffered from PTSD. Kudos to the author for weaving the disorder into the story. The kindness and patience of the heroine showed a different face to courage that wins the day. An uplifting story
A DUKE IN DARKNESS
As an orphan living in the abbey, Deborah’s always assumed she would take her vows and never leave. Her experience tending the wounded has given her enough experience for Mother Superior to send her to help a wounded Duke. Not only physical wounds but of the mind and heart. As Deborah tends to his wounds, she fights to keep him from darkness never giving up. Falling in love with the Duke puts her heart in jeopardy and her original path to be a nun. It’s hard to read with tears in my eyes so much emotional turmoil. What do a Duke and an orphan have in common? Love! A sweet clean romance.
I really liked the book so much that I read it in a day.
I do love a happy ending! Lots of emotions in this one, but the best was an endearing love. Beautiful story, highly recommended.
The almost a nun aspect reminded me a bit of The Sound Of Music. I really enjoyed this wounded warrior romance. It was a slow fade that started with much agony and ire. I enjoyed following the multifaceted healing process in this rags to riches regency.
I’ve read many of her books, and this is my favorite! It was quite a page turner! I loved the story and I loved the characters.
Deborah Harland, an orphan raised in the Abbey, worked caring for injured soldiers. One of the nuns who had been a rich lady of quality educated and trained her how to act and speak. Deborah wanted to become a nun.
Mother Superior told Deborah she noticed her great work with the men and thought she could help a gentleman, the Duke of Harksbury, to heal from his wounds, as well. His sister, Lady Markham, wrote to the abbey to ask for someone to help. Lord Edward Abernathy, the Duke, had insisted on fighting in the war. He had a disfigured face, lost a couple of fingers, and lost sight in one eye. He became very bitter and dark.
Deborah accepts the assignment with the understanding that when she returns to the abbey, she would be allowed to take her vows. When faced with the angry, brooding Duke, Deborah learns that she has fortitude and courage she didn’t know she possessed. She’s not afraid of him, as so many others are, which makes her perfect for the job! The staff is in awe of this miracle working nun. Clean Regency romance with a great storyline!

Spoiler
The Duke of Harksbury, Lord Edward Abernathy, had been seriously injured in the war and was in need of care, both physical and emotional.
Deborah was an orphan who had been raised in the Abby. She had become an invaluable asset taking care of the wounded soilders as they returned from the war. As she approached the time to take her final vows, the Mother Superior asked her to do one last thing before her commitment. Would Deborah be the angel to save Edward or would he push her to take her final vow as a nun?

I found this story intriguing, and a life lesson worth learning. The light can overcome the darkness in our hearts. We must see ourselves more than the superficial shell that we live in. Come journey with Lord Abernathy as he journeys through pain and darkness to a world of hope and love, I was not disappointed.
Deborah has always lived within the walls of an abbey where she was abandoned when she was still a baby. Because of the war, she has been taking care of the soldiers injured.
Lord Abernathy has been badly injured in the war. His good character has changed a lot and he doesn’t permit anybody to take care of him. His injuries run deeper than just physically.
Sometimes we set a path in life but then suddenly life itself comes along and changes everything. However, every change has a purpose in life. If Lord Abernathy hadn’t been injured, he wouldn’t have met Deborah.
The first thing we always see in a person is the appearance but for Deborah, that is not important at all. She is able to see what it is inside that tortured soul and brings him back from the dark place he is in.
A lovely, sweet romance.

The Healing Power of Love!
Love blooms between Miss Deborah Harland and Lord Abernathy in this heartwarming story of healing and second chances. Wounds from the war with Napoleon has Duke Abernathy despondent and refusing help until Deborah’s strength, patience and persistence overcame all his objections. The Duke’s fears of rejection by the ton are put to rest once he realizes just how shallow the haute monde are. Wonderful and poignant regency romance. Enjoy!
I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.
The Duke’s Saving Grace: A Regency Romance by Rose Pearson is the third book in this series that I’ve read and reviewed, and I love and recommend them all!
