A sweet romantic story of anticipating and acting love of a lovely couple amongst loving and caring family as well as considerate and helping friends!
If you want an easy to read historical romance, then this is the book for you. I found it flows quiet nicely and was a relaxing book to read. The characters were enjoyable and had some interesting banter going on at times.

This the first book I’ve read by Joanne Wadsworth. It was fantastic! I started it late in the evening and stayed up until almost 4am, I was so engrossed! I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Ms. Wadsworth, you have a fan for life!

I like the story, but was not completely sold on the reasons for the Duke’s self exile. However, I did enjoy all the efforts to pull him out of his funk. Nice turn of events when the Duke finally comes to the realization that he was being an idiot. Once the Duke begins his pursuit in earnest the fun in this story really begins. Good character development and side characters that add nicely to the overall story. Definitely an enjoyable book.

I enjoyed that Ellie and Ashten already knew each other and this book is how their relationship changes.

Lady Ellie Trentbury has loved the Pierce Blackgale, the Duke of Ashten since she was a little girl. But Ashten has never indicated he held her in any regard other than his best friends little sister. Ellie had resigned herself to never being more to Ashten than his friend when she learned that Ashten had intended to propose to one of her dearest friends.
Ashten is in hiding as he blames himself for the death of a woman he had considered marrying. If he hadn’t intended to pursue her she wouldn’t have run off with another man to sea and died. Ellie thinks Ashten is being ridiculous and hatches a plan with her eldest brothers business partner , Mr. Thomas Tidmore, to try to get Ashten to return to society.
She informs Ashten that she intends to elope but he mustn’t tell. Ashten is shocked that Ellie would do such a thing and demands to know whom she intends to elope with. Ellie refuses to tell him outright but does tell him that she will be dancing with her intended at a ball in a few days and if Ashten wants to know he will have to attend the ball. Ashten, however, does not attend the ball but Ellie discovers that he is spying on her in order to find out whom her intended is and decides to confront him. Ashten gives in to his desire and kisses Ellie in a most “disrespectful kiss” manner when she confronts him, then proceeds to tell her to go back to the ball.
Ellie decides to continue with her fake elopement in hopes that Ashten will, if not make her his wife, at least rejoin society. Ashten intends to stop her. But Ellie, knowing that Ashten will not wed her, decides to make the fake elopement real and agrees to marry Mr. Tidmore. When Ashten discovers she has taken her brothers carriage and is heading for Gretna Green with Mr. Tidmore he goes after her. Ashten can’t let her marry another, not now that he has discovered how much he loves her. But will he be able to convince Ellie to change her mind and marry him instead?
Good book and can be read in less than a day. Quite a few funny segments as well as being a charming read. If you like Regency Romances I recommend giving this one a try.

I really enjoyed this one. Ellie and Ashton are both engaging characters. The plot isn’t complicated, Ellie loves Ashton, her brother’s childhood friend, but he’s determined not to marry. Of course she has to change his mind.
Not clean, if that’s your preference, but not over the top raunchy either. I’m looking forward to continuing with the series.

Starring Lady Ellie Marie Trentbury and Pierce Luke Blackgale, Duke of Ashten. Childhood friend… unrequited love.
Ashten blames himself for a tragedy that was beyond his control, and he put himself in a 6 month long self-imposed exile. All Ellie wants to do is bring Ashten back to the land of the living and once again be surrounded by the people who loves him… including herself. So she devices a plan that brings out Ashton’s protective streak and forces him out of his hole. And it comes to almost losing Ellie to another that he realizes that he’s been in love with her all along. Gaaaaah!! Heartstrings pulled!! I absolutely loved how fun this story was. Ellie and Ashten certainly kept me entertained. They are also a very hot couple and I loved their “disrespectful” kisses. I also love the token that Ashten kept for years that belonged to Ellie… and the daisy references.
This is my first Joanne Wadsworth story and will definitely not be my last. Glad I “discovered” her this year. Now I want to find the rest of her stories.
My star system:
4 stars: Book was great… loved the characters… will definitely be re-reading this story… but didn’t make me cry.
I’ve read a couple of Joanne Wadsworth’s books and they are always worth the ready. She does historicals with just a little bit of steam. She doesn’t write clean love stories, so if that’s what your looking for skip this one. She does write great romance with some heat. The Duke’s Bride is a great story about a man who finally realized his best friends sister is the love of his life. He’s always been her friend but once he realizes she may go off and marry someone else he finally comes to his senses. This is a quick and delightful romance. I highly recommend it.

Too predictable. No surprises. Too repetitive. Lost interest.
I have been provided with a copy of The Duke’s Bride: Regency Romance by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the Regency Brides series and in this new series we are introduced to the Duke of Ashten and Lady Ellie Trentbury along with her family. I absolutely loved entering this world and meeting these wonderful characters. This book was just so much fun to read and I completely fell in love with the characters. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and see more of these wonderful characters.
I will recommend this only because someone else’s opinion may not be my interpretation of the author’s work.
I don’t particularly like to give bad reviews, especially for an author’s work, since no one listens to the characters stories like the author does. But I’m really confused here. The Duke of Ashton was going to propose to a woman he didn’t really love until he found out she had run off with a sea captain to elope. They both died at sea. That left Ashton feeling like he killed her. REALLY??? Ok, my thought process is, perhaps there was already something that gave him a low self esteem that he thought by loving her it had cursed her to die or something. If that were the case, I wish Joanne Wadsworth had at least alluded to it. When I read any type of Romance book, I want a strong Alpha, even if he is broken or flawed. I didn’t get that here. That being said, it could just be me and my interpretation. But I can’t in good conscience give this book a very high rating. Maybe next time.
I appreciated the main characters situation, away at war.
Things having changed when he was forced to return.
His heart having been broken he had much to overcome.
The writing of the Character who managed to do all that was wonderful.
I had been told that this was worth reading. They were wrong.
Good regency romance
I thought the book would have worked better as a novella since the Duke’s protests were too long and drawn out.
Blarg. Got about 20 minutes in and had to cut it loose when he started explaining what an erection was to her while they were making out like it was dirty talk, and she kept saying, “I can’t believe we’re kissing”. Just… Not executed well. And if you’re like me and you prefer a more strong-independent-woman vibe to your heroines even if it’s a regency romance, I thing you should get another book.
Good read couldn’t put it down just wanted to read it thru…..
Loved it
Easy to read, fairly predictable but enjoyable for a quick read
