He’ll never let her leave! Ellie has been in love with Ashten forever but now her sister wants to marry and her oldest brother and mother are pushing her to accept an offer. She’ll try one last time to convince Ashten that they belong together. When he flat out says he doesn’t want to marry her, she decides to elope to Gretna Green with Mr Tidmore who is a perfectly nice man. Since she can’t have the one she wants, she wants to be far away from him. Ashten isn’t going to let her go quite so easily.
I liked Ellie but thought Ashten took too long to come around. He had his reasons (which you find out later in the story) which only confuses the issue and spurs her on.
The story was predictable but fun. If Ashten had some better reasons for putting her off, the story would have worked better.
(I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
What to do when the man you have loved for a long time does not notice you? A fun story of childhood friends eventually turned to lovers and getting their Happy Ever After! This is the first book I have read by Joanne Wadsworth and now I wonder why it took me so long! Lady Ellie Trentbury has know most of her life that Pierce Blackgate, Duke of Ashten held her heart. Her brother’s best friend, Ellie finally came to the conclusion he did not return her affections and decided she needed to move on and find a husband. Ashten had been been away from society after his own sad romance. But when Ellie decides to elope with her american friend, Ashten takes steps to save her. A wonderfully sweet story with characters you will love. Cannot wait to read more in this series!
To see what is just in front of you is not always easy. Can they each other see their attraction and love? Can they open up for their feelings and not hide them?
A well written story but there were some issues with the personalites of the main characters. He is cold and hides away his feelings. She is very selfish and tries a lot of things to get what she wants. She also brings others into her affairs to make it work.
But apart from that it is an enjoyable read of a nice length. It has emotional ups and downs but I would have like more chemistry and passion between the main characters.
A recommendable story to others.
Ellie has always had a crush on her brothers friend Ashten. Ashten doesn’t believe he can love again. I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the storyline and plot. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a delightful, entertaining story. Must read! My free opinion. Thanks.
The good storyline and great characters made this book a very enjoyable and entertaining read! This was the first book that I have read from this author and it definitely will not be the last!
To be in love with him but to not be noticed because you are his sister’s friend. So to get away from him and not hurt anymore go to america with shipping magnate. To elope only to have him find out and stop you. Wow see what happens from here. Hot and emotional. I was given a review copy by booksprout and voluntarily review it.
Ashten and Ellie have known each other since childhood. Ashten has been in seclusion for six months blaming himself for the death of a woman he intended to propose to. When Ellie pushes her way into his bedroom in an effort to get him to return to society, he makes her leave. Before she goes she tells him a made up story that she’s going to elope as a last resort in trying to get him out of his house. What follows is a funny and touching story of the two of them trying to find their way. I loved this story and I know you will too.
