Can there be any greater challenge to London’s Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke?—Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1813By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend’s sister—the lovely and almost-on-the-shelf—Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth—it’s all an elaborate ruse to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as … mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.
But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it’s hard to remember that their courtship is a sham. Maybe it’s his devilish smile, certainly it’s the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her . . . but somehow Daphne is falling for the dashing duke . . . for real! And now she must do the impossible and convince the handsome rogue that their clever little scheme deserves a slight alteration, and that nothing makes quite as much sense as falling in love.

I really enjoyed this book. I read the whole series. All the book were very good.
Julia Quinn at her best. The Duke and I is so delightful that I have read and reread it at least three times since I first bought it as a paperback. I fell in love with the Bridgerton family and had to read the entire series!
This review is dedicated to my dear friend who was thoughtful enough to challenge me to read this book and not love it. The sheer lacklustreness of this book is staggering. I didn’t expect to either like or enjoy it but this went beyond my wildest imaginations. A non existent, uninteresting plot; clichéd characters and manufactured, artificial, …
Just a wonderful read!
A fun family series
This is one in a series and I would definitely recommend them all.
I loved this book and entire series!!!
The Duke and I was so entertaining! I love how the story was told, it flowed so well and was outright fun to read with a whimsical feel. I enjoyed the humor and wit and laughed my way through.
I have read this entire series multiple times and Simon and Daphne’s story is one of my favorites!
Lovely, funny, sexy.
angst, family-dynamics, friendship, romance, early-19th-century, series, situational-humor, verbal-humor
I first read this book some years ago but snapped it up when it came on sale as an audio because any print copies I had kept wandering away. I liked it even more this time around with Rosalyn Landor as the narrator! A twist on the usual …
I am all about a family saga and I am HERE for the Bridgertons!
I enjoyed this historical romance. I received it for free and I voluntarily chose to review it. I’ve given it a 4.7*. In this story, they address the issue of slow to speak, and a variety of reactions to that. While this gave dramatic reactions to certain things, others not. Some societies did have stern rules for some things at that time, but …
Julia Quinn’s books are always entertaining with characters that seem so real, you feel like you’re watching the scenario with your best friend!!
Who doesn’t love a strong heroine who can handle her cadre of brothers? This is a beautiful, quiet romance set in London that is tons of fun to read.
This is one of my all time favorites. Maybe it’s just me but every time I read this book I feel like I can feel the pain and the love that the story invokes. Excellent beginning to a must read series.
She one of my favorite writers. Love all her books. The stories make me and cry. Great book
I’d already read a couple of Bridgerton novels out of order (forgive me!), but the upcoming Netflix series meant it was time to buckle down. Daphne Bridgerton is perhaps my favorite Bridgerton, and her “sham” courtship with Simon, the Duke of Hastings, is pretty perfect. Throw in Lady Whistledown, Lady Danbury, and an assortment of Bridgertons … …
Love the entire Bridgertons series!!
love all of Quinn’s books
