Can there be any greater challenge to London’s Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke?—Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers, April 1813By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend’s sister—the lovely and almost-on-the-shelf—Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth—it’s all an elaborate ruse to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as … mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.
But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it’s hard to remember that their courtship is a sham. Maybe it’s his devilish smile, certainly it’s the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her . . . but somehow Daphne is falling for the dashing duke . . . for real! And now she must do the impossible and convince the handsome rogue that their clever little scheme deserves a slight alteration, and that nothing makes quite as much sense as falling in love.

I enjoyed this book much more than the Netflix adaptation. The characters are full of warmth and wit, and the relationships between the devoted family members are delightful. Highly recommended!
Though I enjoy some romance books, I don’t know if I ever would have read the book if not for the new Netflix show. There are some noticeable changes from the book to the show, but happily a lot of it remains the same. I enjoyed reading more of the emotions the main characters experience since we didn’t always get that piece in the show. The …
After watching the show, I knew I wanted to pick this up. It was cute, and I like the Bridgerton family dynamics. I didn’t like how Simon or Daphne handled their feelings about having children and the lies and sketchy behavior around it. I won’t say more to avoid spoiling but I think they were both very unfair to each other and to the …
This book is such a delight. With the show and everything this book is so hyped up and I’ll be completely honest, I went in with trepidation, cause can it really be THAT good? But yes… yes it can. The banter! The swoon! It was so much fun and I love Simon and Daphne. I love that they started out as friends and I adored the fake engagement trope! …
What is there to say? I jumped on the Bridgerton bandwagon and I am not looking back. I thoroughly enjoyed this book even after binging the series on Netflix. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I loved it. I know I am well behind the curve on finding the joy of these books but I am so pleased I have! I also had the joy of picturing the cast from the Netflix series (which I watched first) while I read. I must confess this added to the pleasure. The Netflix series and the book are different things but both brilliant. I enjoyed the book …
Bridgerton: The Duke & I was a lovely entertaining story. My natural inclination leans toward contemporaries, so historicals must be introduced by attention-grabbing means. Practically the entire Netflix universe found the first season of Bridgerton to be something to talk and write about. What kind of romance reader would I be if I didn’t also …
Though it goes quite differently than the show Bridgerton (I personally think the show is better), this is still a delightful read.
I loved how well written the story was and how well developed the characters were back in the 1800’s.
This was such a great story of a boy who because of a studder, could not win his father’s affections and since his mother died at birth, it was all he desired.
He over came his disability, despite the fact that his father told everyone that he was …
Loved the heroine, great world building in that you could see the settings with that touch of fantasy from the reality of those times. Fun read. Great start to set up for further books.
I was not sure I was going to read the book after I watched the show because I didn’t want to compare the two, but I adored them both equally. There were things that were the same, and things that were different and that didn’t bother me. I loved Daphne and Simon so much in this book. I really enjoyed that we got more of his back story and his …
Having seen the Netflix series and then l listened to the audiobook, I must admit that there are some great changes that I really like in the TV series.
Setting that aside, I did enjoy the book. Simon and Daphne are a great match. She sets him and any other male who misjudges her rightly in their place – be it with her wit and sharp tongue or …
Dreamy
I loved the slow burn, with Simon and Daphne in a push-me pull-you friendship until (of course) Daphne is compromised. I loved Simon’s vulnerability and Daphne’s fire so much! Wonderful read!
I did this one a bit backwards because I watched the show on Netflix before reading the book. I’m not normally a historical romance reader, but the show was such a wonderful escape, I had to check out the book. There were some major differences and missing characters when compared to the show, but it still had plenty of scandal, drama, secrets, …
Loved this book. Loved the whole Bridgertons family. Loved the Duke!! What more can I say? Julia Quinn is wonderful!! I listened to the audiobook before and Rosalyn Landor is wonderful!
The Duke and I is the first book in the Bridgertons series and this was just a great way to start off a new series. I was just transported into this new world with these amazing characters. I just fell in love with them and had an amazing time reading this story. It was just so easy to get lost in and I immediately wanted more after turning the …

By now I think everyone has heard of Bridgerton on Netflix. With all the hype from the TV show, I had big expectations for this book. This is a story of two young aristocrats in the early 1800s who enter into a fake …
Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series is one of my favorite and The Duke And I is a top favorite of mine – Daphne & Simon’s love story is delightful
I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into this story other than the tidbits I have heard floating around in book groups. I was hooked at Recency London because going to balls has always been a fantasy of mine growing up. I quickly enjoyed Daphne and Simon’s relationship. From the start they were quick witted and humorous with each other. …
I read this book eighteen years ago but wanted to reread it before watching the Netflix series. I’m so glad I did because knowing Simon’s past makes it easier to understand why he is the way he is. I’ve only seen the first episode so far and haven’t seen anything about it other than the mention of his estrangement from his father.
I liked Simon. …
