Great read from a great author
Everything about this book is bright and fresh (except Madeleine) and highly entertaining. Amity and Henry’s converations are witty; their romance is charming and sweet. This book was a joy to read.
I received this ARC edition and gladly chose to review it.
Loved this book! It’s a delicious historical novel that you don’t want to miss! I loved the descriptions of chocolate and reading about the heroine’s (Amity’s) profession. Amity works as a chocolatier in her family’s confection shop. When a duke (Henry) approaches her about making a special, one-of-a-kind treat for this future bride, Amity agrees to do the task!
Such a project will prove beneficial for her family’s business.
But, while Henry tastes Amity’s creations, he finds he likes Amity – even more than he likes her irresistible chocolate creations.
But a duke cannot have a suitable relationship with a common chocolatier, can he?
A working class girl who makes chocolate delicacies in her family owned bakery – sweet shop. The best laid plans and all that… Enjoyed the story. Definitely interested in buying the other books, about the other sisters.
I loved it
I enjoyed Henry, the duke, changing after meeting Amity, wanting to be in her kitchen and not really understanding why, except that he liked to be in her presence.
Like chocolate and you’ll start read it through and it tastes sweet.
I could taste the chocolate. Wonderful story.
Lovely story with amazing characters. I throughly enjoyed this story. The author is a very talented writer!
The descriptions of the chocolate creations are not to be missed by chocoholics!
I read this one and the rest of the series and found them all delightful! When I was done I found myself missing the characters:)
Good story and no yukky sex.
This was a nice enough story, although a bit boring. Every time I expected Amity to show spirit and fire, she turned tail and ran, both figuratively and literally. I liked the premise of the story, and I liked the Rare-Foure family. Excellent descriptions of chocolate.
Childishly written with dialogue completely inaccurate for the historical period
These books are wonderful. I read A LOT and enjoyed these so much I read all 3. Super romantic without being trashy. And I really like all the creative, interesting, non-wimpy women. Good job.
This was an enjoyable read. The story flowed and kept me entertained.
Great information about the history of Chocolate in Europe woven into a nice romance
Amity, along with her sisters Beatrice and Charlotte, own a shop called Rare Confections. Amity has a gift for chocolate making and constantly explores how to incorporate new fruits, spices, and liqueurs into her chocolates. (Beatrice’s specialty is toffee treacle, and Charlotte’s is marzipan.) When the Duke of Pelham, Henry Westwood, comes to their shop, he asks @mity to create a brand new chocolate candy for the party at which he plans to propose to Madeleine. Smitten by Amity, the Duke comes to the shop many days in a row to help Amity with her research, cooking, and tastings. During that process they fall in love, but as in most romances, don’t realize it until it’s almost too late. In the novel, Amity’s sisters and parents play a role as do Henry’s friends, mother, and sister. This book is delightful, contains amazing characters of good conscience, and ends happily. You’ll enjoy it!
This series was most nteresting and informative about origin f chocolate & preparation of different selections..enjoyed the family and how they upheld their values and supported each other…the love matches & trials they overcame to achieve a happy ending was engrossing til the end.
This book could be made into a mini series for tv! Loved that a woman’s expertise was noted and gave a wonderful new beginning during a time when roles and behaviors were prescribed by society. You won’t be disappointed
