“The plot is fast-paced and the heat level was to my taste. A good read in my opinion.” ~ Amazon readermore
Loved it and am look g for another by this author
Just enough drama and suspense to keep you glued to the pages!
Worth the read
Too much sex.
unrealistic
lost intereet in this book sorry
was not thrilled with the book. Only a slight mention of the hero as a highwayman, so title was a bit misleading.
I would like the books to have less sex and let a persons mind fill in the blanks
This book gave a realistic picture of the low status of women at that time and the horrifying choices they often had to make. However, it was too graphic for me to say I enjoyed it. I will avoid this author in the future.
Meh.
Turned off by main female character voluntarily bedding a person she can’t stand to get an heir. Just cringe worthy not entertaining
Horrible – the story and characters all turned my stomach – I could not finish it.
When I first saw the title of this book I thought ‘not another Highwayman story’ but what a delightful surprise.
I loved how the author gave us an exciting opening scenario and then smoothly and effortlessly built the story up to an exciting and riveting climax. Wow!
This love story has so much going for it – strong characters, friendship, building of trust, a common enemy and of course, a beautiful second chances romance.
Beverley Oakley has written another exciting and very enjoyable story and I am so happy that I read it.
A nice story the story being well developed. The book had a lot of twist and turns. It became a game of survival. The end was a happy one.
I liked it but I also had to make myself finish it. It got much better toward the end of the book.
Great book!
.Interesting story about a noblewoman who escapes her father and pretends to be a ladies maid to defy her father and avoid marriage to a wealthy, old, cruel Lord.
The constant references to how badly women had it in this time period were annoying. The number of excuses given for the “Duchess’s” actions was also annoying. Even the title is misleading, there is no “Highwayman”.
The story line was unbelievable as were the characters.
Then, you get the pleasure of having every chapter start with some glitch that gives you the same sentence twice and many times a part of a sentence that is never finished.
I forced myself to finish the book because I always try to finish the books I start. Even the ending was unbelievable and then mundane.
First I never really understood the hero’s place in the book. Could he afford a mistress, couldn’t he? He has a house with many servants but no female family member to run it when his unmarried sister visits?
He rented a house from the Miller but the couple running the house are the miller or aren’t the miller and his wife.
The premise of a nephew being that evil and doing what he did, the magistrate being that corrupt, the townsfolk being that much against her all possible. But there are so many other little things that just don’t fit well and make teasing the story disjointed.
If you need something to read, and are on a budget this will fit the bill. Just don’t expect to love anyone in it or care what happens after the story ends.
There is a happy ever after and wife desperate enough to cheat to protect her livelihood.
violence of gender and machismo with a happy ending
