This was a very fun twist on two great romantic genres. The worlds of Regency and Western romance collide in the American West in THE DUCHESS AND THE COWBOY by Debra Erfert. Old World and New World values must find a way to compromise before Her Grace the Duchess of Chatham Jane Langley and salt of the earth cowboy Heath Bellamy can find their happily ever after. I especially enjoyed watching Jane explore her new world, along with her lady’s maid who got to experience a small journey to discovery of her own. If you like Regency or Western romances, why not mix your reading up a bit with this enjoyable novel!
It was fun to read a book that combined Regency romance and Western romance!
Fun and feisty characters
Jane Langley, Duchess of Chatman, is 21 and too young to be a widow. Her husband’s misguided duel with his ruthless younger brother leaves him dead. The new duke’s menacing threat to Jane is to marry him or else. She flees her home to America for safety and an opportunity to buy her own property. Jane worries about her new role as a landowner in the Wild West, and she wonders if a proper British duchess will be accepted. When Jane takes over the neighboring spread, Heath sees the possibility of his herd grazing on her land. When their relationship turns from friendship to deep affection, they must decide if love is worth risking getting hurt all over again. – I enjoyed this historical romance. Jane was kind and likeable. Heath was immediately smitten with Jane and liked her more the better he knew her. This is an entertaining story. The last chapter was a set up for the next book in this series.
5 stars
I received a copy of the full length novel The Duchess and the Cowboy: A Denim and Lace Western Romance Book 1 by Debra Erfert and this review was given freely.
An action packed Pride and Prejudice meets the Wild West novel with a murder, family drama, and life on a ranch during the silver mining era. When Jane,Duchess of Chatham’s husband is murdered by his own brother, the only way she can find safety and independence is by escaping to the wilds of America where she becomes the neighbor of struggling Nevada rancher and single father Heath.
Clashing cultures blend in this entertaining story of lies, hardship, patience and a second chance at love.
This was so much fun to read! I loved the interactions between Jane and Heath, especially how he took her to task for not managing her land and the people that worked for her. I enjoyed how Heath took Jane’s brother under his wing to help him learn how to be a cowboy. The plot had lots of twists and turns and the dialogue flowed well. There is a wonderful HEA. I would definitely read more by this author and recommend this book to readers of clean romance, historical romance, and western romance. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this entertaining book.
This is a regency story meets the wild west. A story that begins on a sorrowful note in England, moves to America hoping to find a better life. Once in America, Nevada is the state chosen to start that new life over. And the way of the west slowly takes over their way of life. But the one thing that no one knows is that a new life will bring changes to both Nevada and stretch all the way back to England. But England will marry Nevada and make life happier for all.
The characters were all well done and as unlikely as it seems the actions and reactions all seem realistic.
Can’t wait for more from the series!
Enjoyable story.
Well researched
The story is stilted as if the author is wary of actual feelings or copying Pride & Prejudice in actual structure. The P&P box did no favors for the story. Jane was not snobby and Heath was not preachy enough to pull off a retelling. The added melodrama detracted from the romance even more. If you want a Duchess and cowboy story may I suggest Johanna Lindsey’s Savage Thunder.
Sweet Story
This book was very entertaining and I really enjoyed it.
If you like historical this is an entertaining story. The author draws you into the characters lives and makes you want to keep turning the pages.
Cute plot and fun read
Could not put this book down once I began reading. Thank you Debra Erfert for this extremely enjoyable read.
Boring. And sorry, but not really believable. I skipped a lot of chapters just to get to the end to see .
I really enjoyed reading this book. The plot nabbed me right off the bat. Toward the middle seemed a little slow, but it was a good read.
Enjoyed this book even though plot was far fetched.
It was sentimental and realistic showing how people get long in the old west.
Good read
