From the creator of the TV show Bones comes a smart and funny debut thriller. “Everything a great thriller should be—always smart, often funny, and relentlessly exciting. I loved every page.”—Scott Turow Michael Skellig is a limo driver waiting for his client in the alley behind an upscale hotel. He’s spent the past twenty-eight hours ferrying around Bismarck Avila, a celebrity skateboard … around Bismarck Avila, a celebrity skateboard mogul who isn’t going home any time soon. Suddenly the wind begins to speak to Skellig in the guttural accent of the Chechen torturer he shot through the eye in Yemen a decade ago: Troubletroubletrouble. Skellig has heard these warnings before—he’s an Army Special Forces sergeant whose limo company is staffed by a ragtag band of wounded veterans, including his Afghan interpreter—and he knows to listen carefully.
Skellig runs inside just in time to save Avila from two gunmen but too late for one of Avila’s bodyguards—and wakes up hours later in the hospital, the only person of interest in custody for the murder. Complicating matters further is the appearance of Detective Delilah Groopman of the LAPD, gorgeous and brash, for whom Skellig has always held a candle. As for Avila? He’s willing to help clear Skellig’s name under one peculiar condition: that Skellig become Avila’s personal chauffeur. A cushy gig for any driver, except for the fact that someone is clearly trying to kill Avila, and Skellig is literally the only person sitting between Avila and a bullet to the head.

While there are some beautiful paragraphs that could only be conveyed on paper, this whole exercise works best when you realize that you are reading a movie script and this really should be a film – not a novel. Still enjoyable
Engaging dialog and characterization
Great characters and dialog with a good sketch of Lis Angeles /Southern Califirnia location and culture but but the over-all plot was not too original or engaging. The main character kept the oages turning and over-all I foubd the story quite engaging.
I liked it, I didn’t love it …
Well written with a wry sense of humor and great characters, but the lead makes very obviously bad decisions, especially for someone with a Special Operations/Agency background.
The plot was exceptionally good! I was very interested in it, but a word of warning–the language is a bit rough. Great characters, wonderful story!!!
This book turned out to be quite a surprise.
The writing was filed with sarcasm/ humor similar to Demille.
Enjoyed it!!
Great characters and narrator (main character). I hope for more books from this author!
Lots of fun in a speed-of-light mystery. Heros and villains are anything but cliches, with the possible exception of the protagonist’s military background. How did all the ex-military commandos/seals/under-cover-operatives end up in this year’s mystery books? A great read nonetheless.
poorly written, jumps all over, lost track of story in the first chapter. Deleted it!!!
This book had great characters that I would love to read more about. They seemed human and yet noble. Great plot
It was good, but a littlle bizarre that the protagonist could be quite that tough, really….
could not put it down. Loved his characters – tremendously realistic and in your face. I like the way he built the characters and loved the story.
Waiting for the follow up book.
I loved this book! The book is filled with lightning speed action, empathetic characters, and author’s asides. I want more from Hart Hanson!!
In the tradition of Dorsey, this is great fun.
Wish there were more. Entertainingand well written. Fresh.
i tried reading this book and couldn’t get through the first chapter. Thought it was awful, trite. Too hard to try to be funny. Didn’t go any farther and tossed it.
Great story!
Very enjoyable ride
This books is very violent. While the book is too violent for my personal tastes, it is very well written with vivid and entertaining characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants entertaining and well-developed characters and doesn’t mind violence. Also I would not say the book is gratoutsly violent, it is just not to my taste.
