Sometimes you feel like decisions are being made for you and you have no say, no life, nothing will ever change, or get better unless you do the one thing you don’t want to. Kray Brooks knows this better than anyone. This book had me spellbound from page one. Angry at Kray’s father for his not understanding how a parent should love his child. Angry at his mother for not stepping up and supporting her son. And angry at Kray for the decision he made. My anger for one of these people dissipated and I found myself routing for him. Wanting him to have all he deserved to have. A good life, happiness, and most of all…love. This is a story of fighting back against the odds. Becoming who you are meant to be and finding self worth. It’s beauty in the depths of destruction. Sometimes you have to drift to find where you belong. Beyond a five star read for me. #Crazy4Kray

“Life is like a passageway into unknown territory. It’s like standing in the dark, searching for a way to escape . To find light. Only there are two routes you can take. Both look to be safe. The brightness is blinding no matter what path you choose…”
I stole this quote from the book…The Drifter because it really does sum up the story.
They had each other. A choice was made. They wander through life separately because of that choice. But who says it’s the only choice…now?
Rori and Kray have to decide which way to go now. Now that they have seen each other again. Will it make a difference? Does it change anything?
I know I say this often but I cried. The hurt, longing, and loneliness is very clear in this book. It comes across as a deep ache the reader can feel. Don’t let that deter you though, because so does the joy and sexual tension!
It is sad that I chose to read this book strictly because of the smoking hot guy on the cover. Why you ask? It’s worth so much more than a lusty gaze. It was a great story and filled with hope. Hope that the light will overtake the darkness.
I loved it. Oh, and I couldn’t put it down either!
I will start off by saying Kathy is one of my all time favorite authors, that being said, this book was not one of my favorites. The story line and everything was good but it was just a struggle for me to read. There was too much going on in their heads maybe? I don’t really know what it was. Kathy’s books NEVER take me longer than a day or two to read, this one took ten. Just because I didn’t love it doesn’t mean it wasn’t good, just not for me.
4 Beautiful Stars!!!
Kathy Coopmans sure does know how to write a story that will touch you. This really is a second chance love story between two very strong people. I read this book real quick.
Kray has been told his whole life by his father that he’ll follow in his fathers footsteps. The best thing his mother ever got him was his guitar. Kray can play and sing. He can go far with his music. Except his father won’t hear of it.
Rori, his girlfriend the past 2 yrs is the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Kray ‘s parents are well off. Rori’s mom has worked multiple jobs and Rori has pushed herself to be able to get scholarship’s for college. They have plans. He’s going to get a record deal and tour the world and she’s going to manage him. That was the plan. Until Kray got an ultimatum. Kray makes a decision. One that would effect him and Rori. He leaves a letter and never looks back.
Thirteen years later and Rori and Kray’s life not what they had planned. Both of them are drifting thru their lives. When everything was taken from Rori after she lost Kray, she had to change her plans and do it all on her own. Now, she’s moved to Las Vegas and setting up her new office. When her and her best friend/business partner go to the strip and walk. When she see’s a guy standing against a wall it does something to her. He reminds her of Kray.
Kray’s life is not what he had planned. His father had connections. When people heard his full name they’d send him on his way. The only person in his life is his mother figure Muriel. She loves him and treats him better then his biological mother ever did. They take care of each other. Everyday Kray sings and plays his guitar hoping to make enough money to keep his small dingy apartment over his head. His heart still belongs to Rori and when he sings it’s to her.
When these two see each other again for the first time in thirteen years they became whole. Neither one has been whole since Kray left. They belong with each other. Even though they have so much to talk about and relearn each other. But, they don’t plan on ever loosing each other again.
This was a really great second chance love story. Both Kray and Rori are strong and faithful to each other. Even if they never saw each other again, they’d never give their heart or love away to someone else. Their love was beautiful. The one thing I didn’t like was the lack of dialogue. It was all what they were thinking in their heads. I wanted more dialogue. Other then that this was a great read.
Oh holy emotions Batman! Once again Kathy Coopmans sucks you into such an amazing tale of loss, love and redemption. This is such a heart wrenching second chance love story. To say I was fully engrossed in the development of the relationship between Kray and Rori is an understatement.
Kray thought he was doing the right thing but it shattered not only him but Rori. These two together are pure magic. Even with the years apart you can feel that spark within them. You get so emotionally invested in their love that this book just is poof done. What I really enjoyed about this story is that you do get a feel for their back stories. You get to feel their pain of what they went through on both sides. How Rori suffered, how Kray suffered and how they both lost a part of themselves being apart. I love the smoking hot chemistry these two exude. Totally panty melting! I also love how Rori works with him to find his place in society. Helps him to function. Works with him through his frustrations from being cut off from so much since he left.
Overall, this is a stellar novel. Coopmans attention to detail and getting into the inner workings of a character’s mind is bar none. I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this story as well as its flow. It kept the pages turning and left me in awe. Yet again another amazing novel by Coopmans. I highly recommend this one if you are a lover of second chance romance.
The Drifter was such a heart-wrenching, second chance romance. This is the kind of book that movies are made from. The story is really nothing like that I had thought it would be like. I fell so in love with this love story to the point that I have such a book hangover. Kray and Rori’s story is such an amazingly beautiful story. This one is a MUST Read!!! I absolutely loved this whole story and HIGHLY recommend this one!!!
Happy Reading Everyone!!!
