Tess, an aspiring seamstress, thinks she’s had an incredibly lucky break when she is hired by famous designer Lady Lucile Duff Gordon to be her personal maid on theTitanic. Once on board, Tess catches the eye of two men—a kind sailor and an enigmatic Chicago businessman—who offer differing views of what lies ahead for her in America. But on the fourth night, disaster strikes, and amidst the … the chaos, Tess is one of the last people allowed on a lifeboat.
The survivors are rescued and taken to New York, but when rumors begin to circulate about the choices they made, Tess is forced to confront a serious question. Did Lady Duff Gordon save herself at the expense of others? Torn between loyalty to Lucile and her growing suspicion that the media’s charges might be true, Tess must decide whether to stay quiet and keep her fiery mentor’s good will or face what might be true and forever change her future.

I definitely recommend The Dressmaker. I just happened to pick it up off my library’s shelves and don’t regret it a bit. It’s a historical fiction, set around the time of the Titanic, and the pages just keep turning. You can’t put it down. You think you know what’s about to happen but it surprises you. That’s all I’m going to say without spoiling …
I loved this book. The author obviously did a lot of research on the Titanic and the Duff Gordons. The twists and turns o the unpredictable Lady Duff Gordon’s psyche were suspenseful. I had never seen the Titanic movie and had only a vague idea of what had happened. The heroine was believable and sympathetic–and she seems to have ended up in …
Great story. Adds much to the Titanic story. Satisfying and well, written.
A good historical novel about the Titanic and its passengers.
Excellent book. Characters grab you
I started reading this book without knowing it is based on some truths of the awful sinking of the Titanic. The characters were well written and I came to love and hate some of them. I recommended this book to some friends. Can’t wait to hear their opinions.
Titanic fans will love this book.
Could not stop reading this one!
As a sewer, I was attracted to this book. There is a side story of a designer and a young woman who she mentors. However, the main story in this book is about the Titanic. It was OK, but not what I expected from the titile.
Interesting story, good characters, ending didnt leave you hanging.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was historically informative as well as an engaging story that made me want more.
Loved this book. So interesting you could not put down. As some of the book follows parts of the Titanics venture you can picture it all and feel you are an observer. Just could not put down!
It was a typical heroine story set against the backdrop of The Titanic..
