This book was so well written with a plot that flowed smoothly from page to page and characters that were created with such great detail and depth that I was totally engaged as each and every page was turned!
Wow! This was a brilliant, suspenseful and creepy thriller that will have you wondering what you would do for your dream job and a whole lot of money! Beware you will lose sleep, once you start reading it gets very hard to put down rather quickly. I found the premise unique and the ending one I never would’ve guessed. Hmm, would you get the job? It will make you wonder! This is only the second book I’ve read by Kiersten Modglin but she is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!
Six people are chosen by a secretive company to spend a week at an isolated lodge while they undergo challenges to find out who is the best candidate for “the dream job.” Autumn Sanderson is drowning in debt because of her mother’s cancer diagnosis and is desperate for the job. Others who join in the challenge are equally needy, but only one will get the job. I really enjoyed how the story was woven around the theme of unbelievable money for an unknown job with unknown responsibilities. That alone kept me reading! I wanted to know who got the job, and especially if there really was a job. I also really wanted to know what happened to Claire who disappeared in the middle of the night and early in the competition. I did not care for some of the competitors at all, but that was because the author made Victor and Lincoln totally unlikeable. I was stymied in what to think of Elijah, the host of the challenges, because he seemed so suave and so two-faced at the same time. The entire book was a lesson in deceit and subterfuge and was a fantastically engaging psychological thriller!

I didn’t know what to expect without reading the blurb so I just jumped in! MC Lark aka Autumn Sanderson drowning in debt needs a job. She receives an amazing opportunity to interview from a company she knows nothing about. This company’s hiring process is to have candidates compete locked away in a cabin with no resources and communication. Omg it gets twisty and suspenseful because you can’t trust anyone! Thanks Kiersten for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Wow, Kiersten has done it again! How does she come up with the twisty thriller mystery ideas? This book is told mainly from Autumn’s point of view, or as she will be know for the week, Lark. 6 applicants come to remote estate for a week long “interview” nobody can use real names no info on “DREAM JOB” All challenges and group exercises are done to help decide who gets the job, big salary and perks. The others go home.
They each have reasons they NEED this job. Who works together, who tries to derail the others? Lots of weird happenings going on. You will never guess the ending.
Great read
Autumn Sanderson is in debt mainly helping her mother with her medical bills from cancer. She applies for a job that she does not know what the job entails or what the company does. It states the salary is half a million per year. The final candidates are taken to a wooded lodge. They are not permitted to contact anyone. Are they in danger and is this real? The novel gets you involved in the story line from the beginning. There is an unexpected conclusion.
“The Dream Job” reminded me of “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie. As I began reading, I wondered if something might happen to each applicant, until there was no one left. Would it be foul play? Would someone escape into the night? These questions puzzled me throughout the book and I was never sure which direction the storyline would take me. I was worried about Lark because I believed her assessment of the situation was accurate, and that she may be in danger. I personally don’t like feeling trapped and Kiersten Modglin’s excellent writing literally placed me at the dinner table, with nowhere to go. It was like a game: who would survive, who would be victorious? Is that any way to find your dream job? Lark wasn’t so sure. What job requires the potential applicants to be whisked away to a remote location where they will compete with each other for the coveted position? Was it really a dream job if you didn’t know what it was, or was Lark locked in a dream world where nothing was real and the consequences were dire? Lark needed to protect herself from the unknown so she could safely return to the one person who was real in her life: her beloved mother.
Kiersten Mogdlin is my hero!!! She knows how to write an amazing book that keeps the reader invested from start to finish. Autumn has it rough and a “Dream Job” is dangled in front of her. All she has to do is the pass the final part of the interview phase and she’ll be set for life. Secrets, mystery, intrigue, twists, turns and integrity of others gives you the amazing edge of your seat read you’ve come to know and love from Kiersten. I definitely recommend that you grab this book the minute it comes out. You will not be disappointed!!
I received an arc for an honest review
Spine tingling and haunting.
This book grabbed me from page one and I could not put it down.
It’s very rare that I am able to connect with almost every character in a book but Kiersten put so much into each character in such a way that their view of the world took you deep into their state of mind.
You are them. You are there. You are terrified.
She used one of the worlds biggest motivators, money, and created a twisted tale of terror and suspense in a situation that would be hard for most anyone to turn down BUT
How far would go to obtain your dream job? This well written novel will have you asking yourself the same question over and over….. Would I have went that far?
Let me start off by saying that this book absolutely blew me away! It is incredible! From the very beginning to the very end you will be held completely captive. This story has it all…mystery, intrigue, doubts, anger, elation….just so much goes on. Autumn is in desperate need of a job. She has bills to pay and a mother to take care of. So when she is offered a chance to compete for a dream job, she knows she has to try. When she arrives to her destination for the next six days, she finds that there is more to this than just a basic job interview. When others arrive, can she trust them? Things start to get strange and Autumn known as Lark at this place, starts to question and doubt why she is there? While she knows she needs a job, can she really put her integrity aside to do what it takes to land this job?
I loved Autumn, she may have first been perceived as possibly weak, but she is anything but. As I read, my respect for this character grew. And when she finds out the truth, I actually cheered for her. This story is not just about finding a dream job, it’s about finding out what kind of person you really are. I honestly can’t say enough about how spectacular this story is, and how highly I recommend it. Just true brilliance.
This was a fantastic read! Filled with intrigue and suspense, I was easily held captive by the story and these characters. It was interesting to see the way each person reacted and responded to situations. You could feel the unease and doubt and also the hope that maybe all wasn’t as it seemed. The characters were all impressively written and I will admit, some I disliked more than others which means the author did them justice.
This story was so unexpected!! I loved it. It had a unique storyline, with an array of different characters! It was twisted and suspenseful! Unputdownable!!
I’ve read pretty much all of this author’s books and I’ve loved all of them, so I always look forward to a new release from her! I received an email about this book and I obviously said yes to reviewing it! The synopsis sounded very intriguing and I wanted to know more! I started this book as soon as I received my copy, and after reading, I can say that I liked it a lot! I have to admit that I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the plot, but I felt like it developed at a nice pace and it did keep me interested and wanting to find out what was going to happen next! I wanted something bigger from the plot though! I really wasn’t sure what was going to happen as it progressed, but I was expecting some blood and gore or something like that, but the plot didn’t have any lol! There also wasn’t a ton of romance in the plot until pretty much near the end, but I wasn’t expecting any anyway, so I wasn’t disappointed by the lack of romance! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Autumn ‘Lark’ was the main female character, and I liked her a lot in this book! I loved her determination and that she refused to bend to the rules! She also went through a lot in this book and I felt like she tried her best to keep her head on straight and not let things get her down! Lark also proved herself in this book and she came a long way! There wasn’t a love interest for Lark in this book, but there were other secondary characters that played a big role! These included Elijah, Caleb, Vanessa, Lincoln, Victor, and Claire! All of these characters had different personalities and played an important part in Lark’s story! I have to be honest and say that I wasn’t sure who I could trust out of all these characters because they all couldn’t be trusted! They added a lot to the development of the plot though! This book was only written from Lark’s point of view, which I was expecting before I started reading! The synopsis also gives the impression that it was only going to be written this way! I’m really happy that it was only written from Lark’s point of view because it was her story and her journey during an unsure time! It helped me connect and understand her more as well! It helped keep the other characters a mystery as well because I wasn’t sure who I could trust and neither did Lark! I can also completely understand why this book is a standalone! Everything in the plot was wrapped up and all the questions raised were answered! The ending was left at quite a surprising ending, but it made sense and summed up Lark’s story! I now can’t wait to read this author’s next release! Her next book has just been announced and it sounds intriguing! I’ve also read the vast majority of this author’s other books, but I still have a few more to read, so I’m definitely going to be reading them soon! The cover for this book is also absolutely perfect for it! I love how well it suits the book and what happens in it! It would draw me to the book as well if I didn’t already know the author’s name! The cover model is the perfect Lark as well!
Kiersten Modglin has once again put out a fantastic, mind-blowing story! Six people are offered the dream job of a lifetime. They are sent to a luxurious place to complete the process for the job. No one knows anyone’s real names. As the process continues they are to give satisfactory answers to questions, that at times make them uncomfortable and question the other people. Then one of the six persons is gone in the middle of the night. Autumn KNOWS she heard something and is now questioning how safe any of them are in this place. This story brings out some of the worse in people. It will make you also wonder what you would do for your dream job! I finished this in one day! I was honored to have an ARC to voluntarily read and review.
We have all dreamed our “dream job” but….. how far are you willing to go?
This is exactly the premise of what Kiersten Modglin gives us with this twisted compelling novel “The Dream Job”.
Autumn’s dream job could be right around the corner but what deceptive and devious lengths will she be expected to perform. And can she bring herself to do what she needs to to obtain the job with the unfathomable salary.
I was totally captivated and drawn in from the very beginning of this mysterious novel and read it in one sitting!!
There were definitely some unexpected twists that brought about complicated situations and the ending was one that I did not see coming.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for fair and honest review.
4.5 stars
The Dream Job was out of this world!! Kiersten knows how to keep a reader on thw edge kf their seat and double guessing tge characters motives. Loved that ending though. This book has some jaw dropping moments and the suspense might give you anxiety. Definitely a must read.
Wow this is a fantastic read right away. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time with all the twists and turns. I definitely didn’t see all the twists and turns coming. They are epic. The scenes are written so well you can picture them in your minds eye. This would be great on the big screen. I definitely recommend this must read. This Author does a fantastic job this is More than a five star read.
