This is the first book that I have read by Diane Chamberlain. I loved the characters and could sympathize with Carly. First Carly loses her husband and then finds out that the child she is carrying has a heart defect. Hunter, her sister’s husband, confronts Carly and let her know that he is a time traveler. Hunter knows in the future there is a surgery that can be performed to save her child’s life. Carly, at first, does not believe him but when he tells her something that happens in the future, and it does, she believes and decides to take the leap. It should be an easy trip based on Hunter’s calculations but when things happen, the timeline for Carly to return to 1970 keeps getting shifted. A great book about love and sacrifice. Just a great book! Thank you to Ms. Chamberlain, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for opportunity to read and review this awesome book.
What a great book.
I thought the book was slow. I ended up skim reading to the end. The concept was interesting, but the writing didn’t carry through.
ENJOYED
Already wrote review on my Goodreads page.
This book blew my mind, broke my heart and totally captivated my attention in a way that I won’t soon forget because of this emotionally compelling storyline about a grieving and pregnant Vietnam war widow who will do anything to protect the life of her unborn child. Caroline’s maternal devotion to her baby is so strong she’s willing to believe in an impossible journey, undergo an experimental surgery with frightening odds and make an agonizing choice that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Spine tingling drama, excruciatingly visceral emotions and mind blowing twists and turns make this book a journey that is not to be forgotten. I read an early copy of this book provided by St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
We can only be as happy as our unhappiest child: Diane Chamberlain captures this to-the-wire and beyond places that we will go for our children. As a mother to my soul and a reader to my core, THE DREAM DAUGHTER took me by the throat and never let go.
The Dream Daughter is unique among Diane Chamberlain’s many novels. It’s a time travel women’s fiction book, and it shows the extent a mother will go to save her child. A fun read, a fascinating story, and totally imaginative!
I really loved this book – it grabbed my attention right from the start and held it! There were several surprises scattered throughout the story that I did NOT see coming. I thought the author did a fantastic job with the main character, Carly. I found Carly to be extremely likeable and relatable. My heart broke for all of the tragedy and hardships that she had to endure in her life – she lost her husband and then finds out her unborn daughter has a fatal heart defect – really can it get any worse?! When Hunter proposes a possible solution, she’s skeptical at first, but is willing to try anything to save her baby. This was the first book that I have read by Diane Chamberlain – after my experience with this book I will definitely be seeking out other books that she has written. I highly recommend this book!
I have to thank NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for this wonderful book.
I was drawn in from the very beginning. That is a biggie since I never thought I would enjoy anything related to time travel.
The big question is: What would you do to save your unborn babies life? Would you risk everything you thought you knew and travel into the future for a surgery to save your unborn baby? Would you be willing to take that leap of faith? Literally? A true, loving, caring, mother would I believe.
This book took me places I have never been. I felt like I was going right with Carly. The fear she felt. The tears she shed. The pain she endured for her baby. At times I thought nothing would ever be ok. She was lost and so alone in a strange place in time. Nothing was like back home. But Carly was much stronger than anyone thought when it came to her child. She did what she had to do for that baby girl to be ok. For her future to be so good. For her to have the best kind of life.
This is a heartfelt story that will take you on many ups and downs. Many highs and lows. Many tears and lots of laughter in parts too. It blew me away in parts. I thought it was such a believable story. I even questioned whether this could really happen in our world. Wouldn’t it be wonderful in so many ways. The characters were so likable and realistic. I didn’t care for Hunter’s mom a whole lot but I still liked that she helped Carly when she needed help so bad. My heart broke for Carly when she visited places that held a lot of sadness for her. I don’t want to give anything away here.
This was a book I had a terribly hard time putting down. It was so well written and truly will make you beleive in things you never thought you would. I will be reading more of this author’s work. I loved it. I felt it. It opened up my heart in so many way. Thank you Diane Chamberlain for taking that leap of faith in writing this book!!
A big 5 stars for me.
The Dream Daughter is an amazing book that blew my mind! I hadn’t read anything by Diane before but the synopsis of this one intrigued me. And once I started it, I couldn’t put it down.
This is a story with interesting, likable characters wrapped around a wonderfully woven story-line. I felt all the angst, emotions, and love that Caroline experienced. It’s amazing what a mother will do, all because of the love she has for her child.
I also loved the time travel aspect of this story. Time travel written about in books has always interested me, with The Time Traveler’s Wife being one of my absolute favorites. This one is going right up there with that one. I’m definitely going to be reading more of Diane’s books and I’ve added her to my list of must-read authors.
Luckily, I started this on a Saturday, and I didn’t have anywhere to be that I couldn’t sit and read because this was a novel that kept me so engrossed, an hour would pass and it would feel like it had only been ten minutes. As a Mom, Carly’s situation had my heart breaking and grateful that I haven’t had to face so many challenges that would force me to make such difficult decisions. Carly was such a beautifully written character, I wanted to be her friend. The way the author wove in the time travel aspect as well as the different time periods was handled deftly. So many changes have happened during my lifetime; sometimes I don’t notice the different stages. If someone skipped a chunk of that time, how would they handle such radical changes?
I loved the way the story was written and how intricately the story, setting, and time changes were woven together. It is one for the keeper shelf. This is my first experience with Diane Chamberlain, and I have heard it is a bit of a departure, but I am anxious to see if her other novels are as well-written and captivating. I am betting they are.

This an amazing story of love, loss and what a mother would sacrifice for her child and what a wife would do for her husband.
The characters in this story are so real that you feel you know and understand them. The emotions are sometimes so raw and heart wrenching that you cry with the character. Carly Sears is a strong young woman who seems to act out of emotion only but as the story develops you realize that’s not true.
Just as Carly has to get over her preconceived notions about time travel, the reader is asked to do the same. I did not find this a problem. It was just an added dimension to the story.
This is a well written story with well developed characters that make the reader care about the story and its outcome. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes books about family, love and relationships.
Thank you to #Netgalley and #St.Martin’sPress for approving my request the ARC of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book was amazing! I’ve never read one like it ever. Full of suspense, surprises and futuristic science it held me spellbound the whole time.
The year is 1970 and Carly is pregnant. She finds out her unborn baby has a serious heart defeat. She is not accepting it and thinks the ultrasound is wrong, after all it’s a new technology. She goes along with a blind eye and seeks a second opinion. She is told her baby will not survive outside the womb. Her husband died in Vietnam not knowing he was going to be a father. Carly wants to hold on to this part of him growing inside her.
Her brother-in-law, Hunter, has a secret he has kept from both Carly and his wife. Should he reveal it to Carly alone to help save her baby? Will Carly believe him and take the chance, although scary, to try and save her baby’s life?
So many twists and turns. So many hard decisions. What lengths will a mother go to, to save her child?
Grab a copy and hold on for the ride of your life! Make sure you have plenty of time because you will not want to put it down!

This book took me on a journey unlike any book I’ve read before! Author Diane Chamberlain took big risks with this book, but they paid off for everyone who reads this book. A rich, emotional, roller coaster of a book!
Absolutely Brilliant! It was heart-breaking at times, but I loved every minute! This book takes you to another world—several actually! The entire book was captivating, but I absolutely could not quit reading the last several chapters. It was my first book by Diane Chamberlain, and not at all what I expected. I have to admit that it was the cover that caught my attention and I didn’t read much of the description. Once I realized it was about time travel, I was certain I would’t enjoy it. I was wrong…this is the BEST book I’ve read this YEAR!

Although this book started slowly, the pace quickly picks up as Carly is whisked into the future in order to try to save her unborn baby’s life. A series of unfortunate events ends up separating her from her beloved Johanna. Her quest for the rest of the book is to be reunited with her daughter, regardless of the year in which she has to live or the city and conditions of her circumstances. This is a fantasy book that is also a really good book that captures the attention of the readers and holds it to the tear-jerking conclusion. This is the first book that I have read by Diane Chamberlain and I loved it! Readers that belong to book clubs will clamor to read and discuss this book.

I loved this book! I wasn’t expecting there to be a little science fiction in this story but boy did it work. I don’t want to say too much about that as I don’t want to give that important part of this book away. It’s such a beautiful story of what a mother will do to save and protect her child. An emotional and heartbreaking book that I enjoyed so much that it’s going on my 2018 Favorites list. This one stayed with me long after I finished it. I highly recommend it!
This is such a great book! I love the writing style of the author – it flows so well and is so easy to read. The characters are all amazing – my favorites were Hunter and Myra. The ending was great as well, closing all of the storylines. The time travel aspect is so interesting. Definitely 5 Stars!

Kudos to Diane Chamberlain, Author of “The Dream Daughter ” for writing such a unique, captivating, intense, intriguing, riveting, unusual, time-changing, page turner. The author describes her characters as complex and complicated , possibly dictated by the events and circumstances in this story. Caroline is pregnant, and Hunter and her sister accompany her to physicians to check on her baby, when other doctors feel something is wrong. These doctors confirm in the year 1970 that Caroline’s unborn baby has a severe heart defect and won’t make it.
