It is 1970, and she is told that nothing can be done to help her child. But her brother-in-law, a physicist with a … brother-in-law, a physicist with a mysterious past, tells her that perhaps there is a way to save her baby. What he suggests is something that will shatter every preconceived notion that Carly has. Something that will require a kind of strength and courage she never knew existed. Something that will mean an unimaginable leap of faith on Carly’s part.
And all for the love of her unborn child.

Very thought provoking book if you are interested in time travel. Couldn’t put it down.
Interesting concepts and twists made this a totally enjoyable fast read.
I loved the concept of time travel that occurred in a realistic scenario, not science fiction. The story was touching, enthralling, and memorable.
First book by this author and highly recommend!
This book was very entertaining and enjoyable to read, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat in a heightened state of emotion so be prepared.
“Is it possible?” you ask yourself. I simply couldn’t put this book down until I finished it. Triggers you saying “what if?” Kept thinking about it for days afterwards. Didn’t want to begin reading another book for several days because I wanted to keep going over what I had read in my head. Loved it.
Not the usual type of book that I read but I found it to be sensational.
My first ever time travel book. Was really fun to read.
Loved this book because it was partially based in NC and partially based on fact — polio hospital in Hickory, NC, in the 1950s. Very well done winding intriguing fiction around factual accounts.
Diane Chamberlain books keep the reader interested. Subject is realistic with a time travel twist.
Stopped reading when I got to the time travel thing.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Definitely worth reading more than once!
An absolutely fantastic story! I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what would happen next. Such an interesting concept. One of those books you can read over and over again!
4.5 Stars!
I had no idea going into this one that there was a sci-fi element to the story, but it was a happy surprise. Although time travel played a large part, there was also many realistic moments in regards to historical events, medical crisis, and family drama. I found the story captivating and I was moved to tears a number of times. Great women’s fiction.
The ending for this story was absolutely perfect. Not necessarily what I expected, but what it needed to be. Great twist near the end that made the resolution just right. I’m SO grateful for that epilogue!!
An amazing, heartbreaking, but finally satisfying tale of the faith, sacrifice, and lengths a mother would go to to secure a healthy future for her child. Definitely engaging from the beginning to the end.
I’ve been a fan of Diane Chamberlain for a long time, and love all of her books, but this one took my breath away. It’s refreshingly different–a woman on a quest to save her daughter no matter what it takes, even traveling through time.
I thought I would be able to predict how things would turn out, but I was wrong, over and over, and there are so many twists and turns and surprises that I stayed up too late reading three nights in a row.
Excellent book from an excellent author.
Dropped everything on my to-do list when i started this book…..could not stop
While time travel is an important element to this story, the book is really about the characters and their relationships. This is a heartfelt tale about difficult choices and family ties. Highly recommended.
The best book I’ve read in long time. Clean, imaginative, and emotional. I wanted to take the journey with Carly.
